Arsenal confirm that Teyah Goldie has ruptured her ACL again

Arsenal Women have confirmed that teenage defender Teyah Goldie has ruptured her ACL. Goldie ruptured her right ACL in March 2022 while on loan at Watford.

Having recovered from that at the end of last season, Goldie has now ruptured the ACL in her left leg. Arseblog News understands this injury happened at the beginning of the summer and not while training with the club.

A statement on Arsenal.com read, “We can confirm that Teyah Goldie has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Teyah sustained the injury earlier in the summer, while away from the club during the off-season, with tests and assessments subsequently confirming the extent of the injury. Teyah has undergone surgery and begun her rehabilitation at Arsenal Training Centre.”

It represents a huge blow for the 19-year-old academy graduate and further affects Arsenal’s depth at centre-back with Leah Williamson injured and Rafaelle having left for Orlando Pride. The Gunners have already recruited Swedish centre-back Amanda Ilestedt this summer with Spanish defender Laia Codina set to join in the coming days.

Gutted for her. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of an athlete rupturing their ACL twice before.

Statistics show an increase in risk of injuring the opposite leg after ACL injuries.

Sadly, it’s quite often the case that any specific injury in one leg, increases the chances of getting the same specific injury in the other leg.

Ellie Brazil too – did one ACL at Brighton in Nov 2019, did the other in her first start for Spurs last October

Did Dan Carter ever play again? At least to a high level?

She’s signed with London City Lionesses

Quite common unfortunately. Ellen White was another double ACL but still came back to be a decent goalscorer until her retirement last year.

That sucks, I feel bad for her. Especially when we are teenagers it can be difficult mentally to face these injuries which can feel like the end of the world. I hope she keeps her head up. I hope she doesn’t feel all is lost and realized there are many other things in life other than football if it comes to that.

Dave

You spelled Bendtner wrong btw.

So important that the players coming back from ACL injuries (Beth next) take whatever time is needed to reduce risk of further injury. As fans I think we need to be patient and not set expectations too high for these returning players. Putellas and Hegerberg have yet to play at the level they played before their ACL injuries so no surprise if we need to be patient.

At least at 19 time is on her side. If she were 29 she might be tempted to hang up her boots for good!

The poor, poor girl! She must be so upset and frustrated. Speedy recovery, Teyah!

Wow, that is brutal! Feel so sorry for her. This sport is so unfair sometimes but I hope she will come back even stronger after this horrific injury. The biggest talent you can have as an atleat in any sport is a body that allows you to stay free from injuries. You can have fantastic skills but if your body says no you are not able to be the best version of yourself. Lina Hurtig is the perfect example her, when she is fit and healthy she is top 3 in Sweden. The problem is that she hasent been 100… Read more »
