Jonas Eidevall says his Arsenal squad can use the ‘positive momentum’ of players returning from injury to help Arsenal throughout the campaign.
The Gunners’ previous campaign was marred by ACL injuries to Beth Mead, Vivianne Miedema, Leah Williamson and Laura Wienroither respectively. While those injuries created difficulties for the Gunners last year, Eidevall says the staggered return of those players can boost his squad.
Mead is back with the squad in Sweden as they prepare for tomorrow’s UWCL qualifier against Paris FC, though she will not play. While Leah Williamson made a positive step in her recovery this week as she is back on a running machine.

‘It is positive momentum for us,’ Eidevall said in his pre Paris FC press conference. ‘It is, of course, the opposite of when you lose players to long-term injuries, to have that momentum of players returning. That is a real positive.
‘We see that now with Beth returning and training with the squad. It is not just black and white that you come back that you just return to play, you need to find your rhythm again.
‘You need to find your form again and that is going to be individual for all the players. But we are so excited they are all making progress and every day they are getting closer to getting back on the pitch. That feels great, I think we can really use that feeling this season.’
One player Arsenal have added to the squad this summer is Alessia Russo, who signed on a free transfer from Manchester United. Arseblog News asked Jonas about what he expects Russo to add to his forward line.
‘She has the ability and the potential to play at a high tempo and in small spaces because she does things quickly. That really helps her game but she has so many different qualities and you see that on the training pitch as well. For me, I think she is going to be great for us.’
Arsenal did make a bid for Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps earlier in the summer and now there are reports that Earps is actively unhappy at United and looking to move on.
Eidevall told Arseblog News on Wednesday that ‘we are in the market for a right-back and maybe one other position.’ We asked the Gunners boss whether that ‘other position’ related to Earps.
‘Individuals, we never comment. We remain active in the transfer market, there might be business to be done but no comment on specific individuals.’
Off topic I know, but can’t comment in the main section. I.m glad to see Tim has put his head above the parapet and spoken the truth about selling Thomas Partey. Every other Arsenal commentator speaks about what an important player he is and what a huge loss he would be if sold. Truth is he has as many bad games as good and is as often injured as not. He should have been sold this summer, if there were clubs looking to take him, and replaced
Thanks, I’ll go over and read that discussion.
Can’t find it! It’s probably me being dense, but if you see this can you tell me what the title of the article is?

In a nutshell Tim says that by definition high value sales will be controversial. Nobody wants our has-beens, therefore KT should have gone last summer and Partey this summer. Perhaps he is right. I was pleased Partey stayed, but no doubt those who say he is injury prone are gloating now.
Thanks for the link.
The light at the end of the tunnel…

I’m taking that as a yes.
I really rate Earps but I wish we were also looking for a CDM. Though I assume that we have a contingency plan.
