Following their defeat to Paris FC in their UWCL qualifier on Saturday, Arsenal Women will not compete in this year’s Champions League group stage and, therefore, will take part in the Conti Cup group stages during the winter.
The draw for the group stages was made in early August before Arsenal’s European fate was determined, so now the FA have confirmed that the Gunners, who won the competition last season, are drawn into Group D where they will meet Reading, Spurs, Bristol City and Southampton.
They will play each team once with the fixtures still to be determined- so some will be at home and some away. The competition starts for Arsenal on 8 or 9 November with the fixtures to be confirmed in due course. The group stage ends at the end of January this season with the final taking place at a TBD venue in late March.
Perfect opportunity to rotate and give fringe players some gaming time. Let’s aim for the treble!
looks like 2 fixtures of other teams in the group will have to move to free up an opponent for us for 22/23 Nov and 24/25 Jan
That’s a good group. Includes three good sides that we know well from their time in the WSL so we’ll have to be up for it.
The Arsenal board invested so much on the squad because of champions League football, and were even ready to add some more players before deadline day, but Jonas Eidevall somehow ended up bottling the opportunity…. 🤡
