Mikel Arteta says Gabriel Martinelli will miss tomorrow’s clash with PSV Eindhoven but he’ll wait for the results of more tests on the player’s hamstring before making a definitive decision on the attacker’s availability for the upcoming North London derby
The 22-year-old had to be replaced by Leandro Trossard midway through the first half of Sunday’s win at Everton and, adding insult to injury, picked up the problem scoring a goal that was eventually ruled out by VAR.
After the game, Arteta said: “Normally he’s not one of the players to have muscular issues, but he had to come off, so let’s see.”
Facing the press ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven, the boss had a further update.
“He felt something in his hamstring and we need to do some further tests to assess if there is any big damage or not. But he will be out for tomorrow’s game that’s for sure,” said Arteta.
Pressed on whether the Brazil international could return for next weekend, he reaffirmed, “It’s a possibility, we don’t know yet. As I said, we need some more tests and then see what happens.”
As far as we’re aware, Arsenal have no other new fitness worries heading into the first Champions League clash at Emirates Stadium since 2017.

And with his humble and hard working mentality and his age he’s still going to get so much better imo… Had a (for him) slow start to the season and that disallowed goal looked for a moment like it might open the floodgates, so fingers crossed… Read more »
Not sure I agree with the slow start. He was our best player against United.
Just in so far as he hasn’t scored yet I suppose. He’s been great, I just meant relative to his high standards.
Martinelli: the Brazilian Express. The kid is good.
He stretches out defenses against the low block which Tottenham will surly play. Big miss for the derby.
I think we’re already seeing why a bigger squad is needed. We have direct replacement for him with Trossard and ESR
Plus Nelson.
we have defo got replacement for that position we have trossard, smith Rowe, Nelson,
