Marquinhos is in his second season as an Arsenal player but the winger is still waiting for his career at the club to really spark into life.
Last season, after catching the eye with some superb performances for the U21s, Marquinhos scored on his first-team debut against Zurich in the Europa League but didn’t feature prominently thereafter.
A loan spell to Norwich City followed in the second half of the season and although he scored and provided an assist on his debut for the Canaries against Cardiff City, Marquinhos struggled somewhat thereafter and was unable to make a major impact.
Marquinhos is spending this season on loan in France with Nantes but has yet to really establish himself in the side.
The 20-year-old is currently taking a break from club action as he is representing Brazil’s U23 team at the Pan American Games, which are taking place in Chile. Unlike at club level, Marquinhos is a very important player for his country at youth level and he proceeded in providing an assist in a victory over Colombia.
Marquinhos will hope to achieve success with Brazil U23s but will also be thinking about his eventual return to Nantes, where he could return as a somewhat reinvigorated presence.
Whether Marquinhos will ever get a sustained opportunity to impress for Arsenal remains to be seen, but it is clear that he has a lot of ability.
The next step will be consistent performances at club level as he looks to excel for Nantes.

Will it ever?
Shows us just how good a signing Martinelli was. It is not easy for young South Americans players to establish themselves in top teams in Europe, especially the Premier League.
Little wonder Jurgen Klopp said we should watch out for that name, Martinelli, especially Alexander Trent-Arnold.
I am all chuffed that Klopp said the same thing of Martinelli as myself, lol. For me, Gabi11 has the potential to be a loved RVP.
I think their skill-sets are different. RVP was a very lethal finisher. His link-up play was great too. Martinelli is more direct and faster too.
RVP only became a lethal finisher in his last coupel of seasons for us at about 25-26 years old, prior to that he was always this player who in theory could strike the ball like some combination of Beckham and Lewandowski but rarely actually had the composure when it came to it. So while I agree Martinelli’s skillset is completely different, I think we’re still a couple of years away from his peak and really unearthing his full abilities as a player, which is an exciting thought.
“a loved RVP” lol that’s like saying “a sane Lehmann” or “a consistent Eboue”. a concept that is its own antithesis
Something that just doesn’t exist but you intrinsically understand what it is. Lovely turn of phrase.
It’s OK we’ll just play havertz, like willian for most of the season to no avail and let a truly talented player like maquinhos gently rot away.
Dosnt t fit into Mickels system you see. Fucking hell. There’s zero flexibility in any game, we give noone a chance. And overplay THE 11 til half are broken.
Urghhh
Fascinating how some fans are so rabid about Havertz they’ll happily weaken their own position just so they can mention him. Like yeah you can say he’s been underwhelming and we’ll all agree, but to come on a Marquinhos argument and be like “Marquinhos is amazing, he should start over Havertz!!!” when the article literally says Marquinhos did nothing at Norwich, nothing yet at Nantes, and got an assist at the (sorry just let me scroll back up to the article) “U23 Pan-American Games” is not an argument against Havertz, that’s just shouting “I’m so mad about Havertz occasionally (!)… Read more »
Great comment.
You really are a helmet
Still pining for late stage Wenger or Emery I see. Keep those positive vibes flowing my dude, eventually all managers get the sack, one day you will be right and what a great day that will be for you.
