Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have a “big worry” over the fitness of Emile Smith Rowe who misses this evening’s Carabao Cup clash with West Ham due to a knee injury.
The England international made his first Premier League start of the season when the Gunners beat Sheffield United on Saturday but it appears to have taken a toll.
While details are thin on the ground, Arteta says Smith Rowe was in pain after the game and the full extent of the problem is being assessed.
Speaking to Sky Sports at the London Stadium, the boss said: “We have an issue with him. He felt something in his knee and started to feel some pain after the game. We are assessing him, but [it’s] a big worry with him.”
"He felt something in his knee, it's a big worry with him" 🗣

Smith Rowe has made eight appearances for the Gunners this season having missed the majority of the last campaign following an operation on his groin.
In September, he revealed the mental challenge he faced while sidelined: “It was a really tough period — having surgery for the first time and then having another setback once I got back on to the pitch. But this is football, you have got to face these challenges, you have ups and downs. I feel like I am a lot stronger and fitter now.”
Poor ESR, hope it’s minor—he deserves a break.
Seems to be one thing after another with ESR. A total shame, because Emile running with the ball is a wonderful sight!
Such a bummer. Wouldn’t say he was looking great vs Sheffield but there have been signs that he’s finally starting to earn Arteta’s trust tactically and be involved in the team and surely a run of form would follow if he stayed fit. Really hope he still manages to come back soon and get a chance to play, otherwise it’s hard to see him wanting to stay..
That’s bollocks.
I get the feeling that this may be it for him (at Arsenal, at least), really sad to see.
I get the feeling you don’t know what you’re talking about… 🙄
Odd comment. If you’re going to reply, you could at least say something useful or tell me why you think I’m wrong.
Ultimately, if you want to win and compete you can’t have players injured all of the time. We spent a lot of years carrying the likes of Diaby, Wilshere and Ramsey. When they played they were class, but didn’t play enough – hence why we stopped challenging for the title.
Many people questioned why we kept a player Arteta didn’t rate and never played. Should have given him the Tierny treatment and got some money for him. Now we’ll probably never get good value for him.
Classy
Words fail me.
Utterly moronic post.
Tone is off there mate, but you’re right. I said this ages ago, that like with Wilshere we had to sell when the price was high, and that injuries were going to do for him.
Not sure if you noticed mate, but Tierney went on loan, we’re not exactly cashing in on him. You want us to do the same with ESR?
I didn’t mean to sound like I did – I love ESR and think he should play a lot more than he’s given. I’m mad at Arteta for wasting his career and not benefiting the club. We should have gotten good money and he should be playing every week for somebody.
Shame for him and for Arsenal who will now be lumbered with another Tierney we will struggle to sell.
Made even worse by the fact that we have that fuck stain havertz who offers absolutely nothing every game he plays..
Nketiah is a total waste of time !!!
Another one.
This site gets worse.
Says you massively contributing to that.
I second that!
Coyg!
ESR, Partey and Jesus? Too many sicknotes for one team, I guess.
Reminds me of the days of Rosicky, Diaby and Van Persie.
Van Persie…. Sorry who?
Poor young man cannot catch a break. He finally looked more like himself for the first time on Saturday in his start. Just pray it’s a sprain and doesn’t need surgery and a long recovery period.
Idc, you keep this kind of player around because one day he will break through and be a world beater.
Maybe this is wishful thinking, and maybe it is splitting hairs, but I think he says “… a bit worried with him”. That’s kind of better, right?
