Gervinho completes ‘dream’ move to Arsenal

Arsenal have finally confirmed the capture of Gervinho from Lille with the Ivorian international moving to the Emirates on a long-term contract for the usual ‘undisclosed’ fee.

The 24-year-old attacker, who had been awaiting the completion of a ‘regulatory process’, will now join up with his new teammates for pre-season training and could play a part in Saturday’s friendly with FC Cologne.

It remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will play the ASEC Mimosas graduate as an auxiliary striker or in a wide berth, although the Frenchman has already spoken glowingly of his new recruit’s versatility:

“Gervinho is a player that can play in a number of positions up front.  He can play on the right, on the left and through the middle.  He has qualities that I find very important, like his movement off the ball.

“He has the qualities we like technically.  He is good one against one, he is strong and was the best provider in the French league with assists and he scored 15 goals. I think he is a very good addition to the squad.”

Having been linked with a move to London for several months, Gervinho also took the time out to express his pleasure at finally sealing a deal with the Gunners.

“It’s a great feeling to be an Arsenal player. I’m very happy. I’ve always dreamed to play for this Club. I’ve achieved this dream now and I am so happy. It’s one of the most beautiful days of my life.

“I’m very happy to have the chance to work with Arsène Wenger.  I came here because I believe that he can improve my game and help me reach another level, but the most important thing for me is that I bring a lot to the team for whom I’m playing.”

It would appear that Arsenal are still on the lookout for further squad additions, although while the defensive area appears to need firming up, it is another young striker, Joel Campbell, who could become the club’s third signing of the summer.

Can’t see how this signing will be the/part of the improvement we need but I welcome him anyway.
I just hope he is fucking lethal! The kind of player that defences lose sleep and dirty their keks over.

Matty

Come on Gooners this is a good signing! It will certainly kick Walcott up the arse as he plays in his position and is by far technically better than him and as quick. We all want Walcott to do well but we all know how frustrating he can be. Come you gunners!

HR

Does this signal the start of Walcotts move to up front w

HR

Does this signal the start of Walcotts move to up front with a switch back to 4-4-2?

Jasonisimo

No.

Matt

Love it!! Defenders next please Arsene
Good stuff

Good-Bloke

Does anyone this signing would have not been necessary had we just given Eduardo a bit more time.

They seem to be a similar sort of player (from what little I’ve just looked at) and I think Eddy was just haveing a shit run of form.

Completely irrelevant I know, but just thought I’d voice it.

Goonerific

3 unknown signings, but we are only buying players that will without doubt improve us? I call hypocrisy! Unless this boy suddenly improves on Bendtner, who had a great goals vs mins played ratio, this guy has what 18 goals in 60 games? Not sure how that’s an improvement.

Matty

Actually Goonerific his record is 28 goals in 67 games which isn’t bad for someone who played out wide. Of course it’s an improvement, would you rather have Walcott and eboue as our right sided players or Gervinho and Walcott??

Jasonisimo

Let’s not overlook the fact that he also lead Lique 1 in assists last season. Bendtner never provided so well.

Also, let’s not over look the fact that technically B52 is still with us. Only Denilson is confirmed leaving at this date in time.

Jasonisimo

That last sentence I meant to be in response to Goonerific, actually.

Sparks

Welcome to Arsenal Gervinho! Now put that forehead to use.

James

I can explain his hair. Basically, he’s going bald, so it’s all receded at the front as per usual, except the bit at the back has been left to grow and braided. That’s why he looks like a slap head with long hair. Still, as long as he can score some goals before he moves to Man City, I don’t mind.

HR

I think he’d look much cooler if he just shaved it off.
