Arsenal have confirmed that Bacary Sagna has undergone surgery on his fractured fibula to ‘stabilise’ his right ankle, but made clear that the player is still expected to return to training in three months time. (Cough)
A statement on the club’s website reads:
“Bacary Sagna has this afternoon undergone further assessment and investigations on his fractured right fibula with the Club’s medical team and specialists. As a result of these tests, Bacary has had surgery to stabilise the injury.
“The surgery went according to plan and there has been no significant alteration to the initial prognosis that Bacary will be out of action for a minimum of three months.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Bacary a speedy recovery.”
The club’s first-choice right-back took to Twitter in the aftermath of his operation (while still doped up to the eyeballs) to add:
“Hello my friends.thanks for your support.just woke up from surgery and still feel high, lol hope to recover and be back soon. I send u my ♥”
That’s the first time that Arseblog News has used an ’emoticon’ (if that’s what it is?) on the site; we’re off for to cleanse ourselves using bleach and sandpaper.
I bet you would get good odds on a return in 3 months.
And as luck would have it our most consistent defender is out when we need him most. Jenkinson is raw and the next 3 months will surely test whether can survive at this level. We are not getting any luck this season but trying to keep the faith and hope that the squad fight through adversity and silence the critics of whom are gathering momentum against our fine club (excluding recent chants at WHL..ahem).
Sagna is a tough (and lovable) SOB. If anyone can flout the Gunner Law of Extended Layoffs (GLEL? Needs a little work…), Bacary is the man. If anyone is offering long odds on an extended layoff (beyond 3 months), I’m in.
(ever the optimist)
isin’t there any right back in our reserves or u18’s thats better then jenkinson, jenkinson is piss poor he shouldnt be a pro let alone playing for arsenal
Jenkinson. He shouldn’t be put in this position. Wenger shouldn’t have brought him in as first choice cover when last Christmas he was playing non league football and hasn’t had a sustained period of playing football for any club. But this is where we are.
ARSENE’S JUDGEMENT HAS BEEN OFF THE MARK FOR SO LONG ITS HARD TO BELIEVE AN EXPERIENCE MANAGER LIKE WENGER LIVE US SO SHORT IN COVER FOR RIGHT FULL BACK, JENKINSON IS OK BUT IS NOT READY AT ALL.
You’re off your box pal, Leeroy will be a cracker in time but at the minute he’s too raw. We do risk however destroying him like we did Denilson by throwing him in too often too soon.
in my not so humble opinion, bacary has been out best player for the past three years. he has been the only no brainer choice for arsene week in and week out. you always know what your going to get from him every match. hes going to defend at a world class level, run till the wheels fall off and never give up. over the past 3 years, name one other of our players you could say that about. i cant think of one. so cheers to bac coming back quickly and getting back to his consistant level of excellence.… Read more »
Arsenal have players playing out of position.Walcott is being played on the wing and in the centre.Same with RVP. If the gunners fail to get the fourth spot,I believe and many fans share this wiew,RVP,Verm and the wc gunners will leave. This is a really dramatic decline from the heady days of 2004. Tactically Wenger has been found out. The gunners are predictable and all you have to as an opposing manager is let them attack and besiege you. Then when the gunners attack breaks down as it will in 90% of cases through over elaboration, hit a fast through ball. Bingo .… Read more »
Eboué, you came and you played without moaning,
But I sent you away, Eboué,
You fouled them and stopped them from scoring,
And I need you today, Eboué…
Nice, but surely this is tongue-in-cheek?
Not two months ago, Eboue was the epitome of all that plagued Arsenal. I don’t recall a single Arsenal fan defending him when he gave away the penalty to the Mugsmashers, nor lamenting his departure when it actually happened. As I recall, everyone was relieved when he left – I believe this was completely unanimous.
Now all of a sudden he is a great player? Puh-leeze.
Its not that he’s a great player its the fact that he would be the preferred backup to Sagna rather than Leeroy.
Internet amnesia.
Can’t Santos or Gibbs play right back? Surely that’s the option. We can’t have a Brazillian international sitting on the bench when we have so many injuries.
Why not give it a go. Winterburn wasn’t too shabby as RB when he first joined.
And I’m not a fan of all this shit being heaped on Jenks. It’s not his fault he’s in this position, nor that he had to live through the shitstorm that was OT.
If he can get through the next few months unscathed, it could be the making of him, but one things for sure – pouring a load of bile on a young fellow Gooner’s head isn’t gonna help him.
How typical of this season. I agree it might be worth putting Le Coq, Santos or Gibbs at RB….pehaps even Vermaelen with BFG and Koscielny in the centre.
You suggest playing a left footed, injury prone CB at RB back? Great idea……
This reminded me of the time he scored a goals against chavs and got crooked. we lost 2-1 back then too.
Wish you a speedy recovery, one of our few real hard working lads
I really hope Carl Jenkinson has an absolute blinder for the next three months (at least) and proves all the haters wrong. Let’s give him a proper chance. He’s played, what, three games? People are way too quick to judge if he’s ready or not. We’ve had rookies come in before and shine so why can’t he? You have to start somewhere. I think he’s got good potential. A very good crosser of the ball, good pace, and he really cares about Arsenal, probably more than anyone else in the team. He’s a proper Gooner. If this unfortunate event becomes… Read more »
Spot on, and don’t play a midfielder at right back instead of him or it will shatter the lads confidence for good
I’d much rather have Kyle Walker the mugs you lot mention above…lol he can score goals aswell….haha
Funny how none of you muppets reply just thumbs down so no one else can see and then pipe up…typical scummers lol
How’s your club’s begging campaign for a ground coming along saddo? The Olympic Stadium is taken, but I hear there might be a suitable availability up Dale Farm way soon
If pain amuses than your sh*t club has been amusing us foe years.
Enjoy your win. Just remember despite the recent result AFC is still Fuck loads more successful than spuds.
There was nothing to reply to was there. There wasn’t a question, so why did you think you required a reply ? The thumbs up/ thumbs down is for whether you LIKE a comment or not…I’m sure even you can get your brain around that one. Bit like all the minus thumbs down you Spuds do when you come on site, and don’t bother having discourse, though I know that mostly for you lot that consists of ‘mugs’ ‘yeah’ ‘fking mugs’, …. capiche brainiac.
You’re not worth the effort
It’s goin about as well as arsenals football at the moment…but who REALLY gives a shit about that at the moment?! Lol keep em comin though your pain amuses me
“To Dare Is to Be a Foxyhead”
twat
Fuck off you wanker go and loot down that fucking shithole your from, can’t imagine a fellow gunner on your shit blog so why go on to ours fuckwit
Probably my favourite player on the team, hope he gets better soon.
Lol’d at the emoticon joke! Really one of our unsung heroes of the team and I hope that they are bloody accurate on the 3 months injury time…
To a speedy recovery Sagna! God knows we need you like hell
Why can’t we bring back Almunia from West Ham and play him at right back?
Just a though ~ Coquelin played right back last season, carl; is one for the future
[…] see, hmm, Sagna has undergone surgery, great, one more first choice right back to the injury list. The projected return date is in early […]
