Walcott: we’re buzzing

Theo Walcott, creator of the kick the ground, fall over, confuse Ashley Cole, get up then score trick, says that the Arsenal players are ‘buzzing’ after the win against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Gunners stuck five past the blues at Stamford Bridge and the England international wants to keep the good times rolling. “The way we’re playing at this moment in time we believe we can beat anyone,” he said. “We’re enjoying our football, our run is great now and we’re just going to keep on continuing that. Everyone is buzzing at the moment.”

“We have the right balance between youth and experience now and we’ve got a lot players coming back from injury too.”

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger believes that although Walcott might have been a ‘defensive liability’ in the past, the not-so-youngster is coming to terms with what’s expected from him.

“Theo has been struggling because we make him work very hard but he has become a more complete player today,” he said. “He is not a liability any more, defensively. He does his defensive job. At the start that makes you heavy-legged when you win the ball back, and he went through a period when he was working so hard defensively he did not have the resorurces to go forward, but now he has got used to it.”

And the manager is also happy, after eight wins from nine in all competitions, the team is slowly becoming more confident.

“The players now think we have turned a corner but, if you think what we went through at the start of the season, it is also reassuring for me. We have suffered but the belief is back and the spirit in the team is strong. You feel that in the dressing room, that the players are determined and together. A game like that encourages us to realise we have the quality.”

Arsenal face Marseille in the Champions League tomorrow night and, should results go their way, will ensure their qualification for the knock-out stages.

Theo was fantastic during the weekend. I have always believed in this team. We are the gunners. We are unstoppable

Not quite: ““The players now think we have turned a corner but…it is also reassuring for me.” Wiley old fox. I think Arsene’s on the same page as Blogger (and Jim Deen, incidentally) – very high standard for corner-turning. I’m with Arsene in that we need to keep our feet on the ground. One win, albeit with the oh so delightful image of JT belly-flopping on the turf, does not make us an unbeatable team (contrary to what Theo suggests above). Not to be negative, and still enjoying this wonderful moment, let’s just see how we do against the park-the-bus… Read more »

Genius

Stoke did park-the-bus…….. What else do you need to turn that corner? We are not talking about winning trophies for God’s sakes….

I’ve always had a moan at Theo’s defensive work, but a lot of that is connected to the fact that he’s not very often produced the kind of performance he obviously did at the weekend.

If he can do that more consistently, not only will I shut the fuck up about his defending, him, RVP and Gervinho are gonna be tearing some teams a new one week in week out.

Scribblers

Weal, I think when you consider Theo as an asset to the team, we need his legs fresh enough to deliver his pace against his FB or around the CB’s. So in a way, we don’t want him charging up the wing again and again, that’s a FB gig, Wenger was saying he used to knacker himself that way. However, he must of course do his bit, so you’d say it would be about applying pressure intelligently up the pitch, and positioning himself properly so to counter any breaks or runs from a full back or winger. As we all… Read more »

Agreed Scribblers. The more consistently Theo puts in a knock like Saturday, the more effective he becomes defensively. So if you’re an oppo FB or even winger looking at that performance, you’d think twice about giving him the time and space to do damage, when you know he’s coming up with an end product. Do that consistently and we’re laughing.

And making Cashley look like a complete toolbag gets him very much on the road to greatness in anyone’s book.

No way theo is the finished article…yet! Wait till he is….! Still work required on defensive side but more than anything it’s consistency me feels…. Still, if he can reproduce saturdays ‘fall over, get up and smash the ball past hat man’ every week, I ain’t gonna moan…. Up the arse…..

TSOTIA

It is not only the players that suffered, we all did. Also, we all enjoy the ressurgence and our confidence is back. Here is a toast to better times.

Matmin

From what i observe, theo excel when defender push up, he always lose the ball when he try to dribble, i think he need to work on that,

Btw, i still laughing when i see theo scored that goal,

TSOTIA

no matter what we do, we are never gonna turn any corner in some people’s view. No problems, they can stay with their little corner tin-god while the rest of carry on on a straight road.

Naija Gunner

hahaha…very funny!
