Wenger: deadline day signings made a difference

Arsene Wenger believes that the club’s frantic, charging round the shops on Christmas Eve just as the shops are closing, approach to signing players in August has paid dividends.

Ok, those dividends may not be as hefty as they should have been had the summer been managed a bit better, but the boss is happy with the way the new players have slotted into the team and the impact they’ve had.

“I’m adamant that the five players we brought in just before are top quality players,” he told Arsenal Player, “but as well top quality men. They have brought something to dressing room that is vital.

“They have brought experience, ambition and you could feel that straight away that after 2-3 days the whole dynamic has changed.”

Arseblog News, whilst being shown around the new Arsenal medical centre last week, was reliably informed that the new faces in the dressing room have made a big difference and that the mood, which was quite low, has lifted considerably. This probably has much to do with results too but the experience and profile of the players who came in have played a major role in that too.

One man who hasn’t featured too much is Yossi Benayoun. The Israeli is on loan from Chelsea and has struggled to find a regular place in the side but Wenger is urging a bit of patience.

“He’s doing well but the season is so long that he’ll get his part. I’m convinced that he’ll be an important player for us and that his experience can make a big difference at some stage”.

“(Benayoun)’s doing well but the season is so long that he’ll get his part”
-after translation-
“Someone will inevitably get Diaby-ed, and Benayoun will have to play more”

That’s the unfortunate truth though. FINGERS CROSSED all our players stay relatively injury-free!

the only sam is nelson

Let’s replace Ivan G with Dale Winton and give Wenger a trolley on Jan 31st so he can repeat this supermarket sweep mastery of the transfer market.

“Holy tits there’s a reduced Cahill in the 50% off basket by the till! yay! and is that a cut price Saha I spy on the damaged goods shelf?” etc etc

TSOTIA

I say a big ‘no’ to Cahill. Is he better than the guys we have? About time you killed this song;it has out-lived its importance.

the only sam is nelson

god i wouldn’t want cahill either, i was merely trying to think of a player who’d be in the bargain bin and he fits the bill as he’ll have about 15 minutes left on his contract come january

saha… now that could be a real piece of cunning. if he were fit he’d be one of the league’s top strikers i think. i suppose the acid test would be how well he gets on with diaby if he were to come to arsenal, given how much time they’d be spending together in the swanky new hospital tent

Voldermort

A world class midfielder would be nice but no longer essential the defence is doing brilliant so just a top class forward is needed but doubt we will buy in January, depends on the fitness of rvp even then I think this board will just muddle through. Let’s hope rvp stays fit.

Anon

I truly believe we only need a great all-round forward the way Henry is (out-and-out I guess).

Our midfield has enough prowess at the moment. Let’s not forget that we still have Wilshere coming back from injury and one day we’ll have Diaby…

Wishful thinking I know. Then add to the fact that Denilson’s coming back next season. Vela too.

Freddi

Denilsons not coming back. Happy face.

Jose Ozorio

a Goetze or a Hazard that can play as a forward or an advanced midfielder would be nice. But striker/forward is probably our weakest position in the squad when it comes to depth.

Bergkamp10

we are definately not signing hazard he’ll be way too expensive and i do think hes overrated. anyways, some fans need to get use to the idea that we are never ever going to sign any expensive players.

James

Load of crap. Benayoun and Park are both pointless signings, Arteta has been decent (not great), Santos average and Mertesacker average. Goals are still flying in (against) whenever we play anyone decent – things might be looking up a bit after beating Chelsea, but the club is nowhere near where Arsenal should be and the board and manager still suck.

Goooooooooner

Not exactly a glass-half-full kinda guy, eh?

Anon

Benayoun – hasn’t played much
Park – hasn’t played much

Per – What? Goals against Arsenal? What?
Santos – I honestly believe he’s still adapting. You look at his attacking play and it’s magnificent, but his defending is very often suspect.
Arteta – whatever floats your boat, for me, he has been playing his role in the team very well

And how tactful of you to insult both the manager and the board without actually being involved or even fairly knowledgeable about the infrastructure of the club for example. Well done Sherlock, you have outdone yourself this time.

Master Bates

Arteta scored has more goals than the Torres, that’s something ?

There are very few Midfielders that are better than Arteta and Arsenal can afford .I think Arteta has Great for us ,having him and Song in midfied is FUCKING EXCELLENT!!!

MyArse

Even Santos has scored more goals than Torres!

James

More of a realist 🙂

Anon

Realists don’t give premature judgments on players who haven’t been played or picked much. Realists also tend to not pass prophecies that satiate their fantasies, such as announcing that the manager sucks without much validity. How does he suck? A realist wouldn’t conclude this until definitive proof comes along.

I really can’t see how Wenger sucks when we’ve consistently been a top-4 team in more than a decade with less financial backing than Chelsea, Tottenham or Manchester City.

manfredi

james…we have seen park twice…in one of these games he scored a cracker..

arteta has done really well, a real safe station in our midfield.

and the big german as adapted fast and well..

you call yourself a realist, i think you sound more like a spurs fan in disguise

Anon

In contrast, I am not really able to counter posters who criticize board members by virtue that I have no idea what goes on back there and what support Arsene receives from the board. With whatever limited supply Arsene has had, he’s done very well as manager of Arsenal.

the only sam is nelson

you’re the same kind of idiot who was whingeing about CJ being “not good enough” aren’t you? when you get proven wrong there you just come back with more complaints pfft if we won the european cup you’d be there, whingeing about how the draw was lucky for us and we only won ‘cos real madrid knocked out barca before losing to man utd who then lost to billericay in the semis before the essex based team had to play their under 11 side against arsenal in the final, you’d really let that sort of thing cloud your judgement wouldn’t… Read more »

gunner_expat

haha,

i think i can speak for the majority when i say
we know a good player when we see one: arteta
we know a good utility player player when we see one: beni
a good attacking full back who is an expereinced international and will adapt: santos
a bfgg: big fucking good confident german: per

and finally,
a prick: you (thought about calling you a pessimist, but that would be too generous)

Come on you reds!

Dutchmaster10

Santos is very average benayoun the same and won’t be staying beyond his loan.
Mertesacker and Arteta have given the team a lift. Anyone is better than squillaci & djourou
In defence and Mertesacker is just needs a bit of time to settle in.
Want to see more of the ox who is a better play now than Walcott will ever be.

Master Bates

Walcott is still young ,he can improve . I know he is inconsistent but I’d rather have an inconsistent THEO who only scores a goal after every 3 matches than a consistent Stewart Downing who score 0 goals and 0 assists every game

Sami Rockfeller

“The senior players were great on and off the pitch, especially Yossi Benayoun,” – Nico Yennaris

I think Benyaoun is making quite a contribution to the team despite not playing much.

Nik

I’ve actually forgotten what Diaby does when he plays. I have a recollection that he is quite good a ghosting past players but that’s all.

gunner_expat

there was something about long elastic legs as well…

gunnerific

All Diaby did was run into dead ends, his dribbling was poor, he scored a nice own goal against united, and took the bait and got sent off against Newcastle which started the demise of our potentially league winning year. So in summary, I hope to never see him again.
I still laugh at all the Denilson haters, at least Denilson kept the ball and passed to other Arsenal players, check the stats if you don’t believe.

jesus4uk.co.uk

This team to me almost has the right balance of grit, guts and flair. With wilshere fit again ii believe the balance will be perfect, right now we lack some flair i feel, someone in midfield who can go past three players and lay that killer pass, wilshere can do that as can Hazard. I also worry about attack, like everyone else if VP gets injured. GK dept is well stocked. defence is perfect now with Verminator back stronger than ever. So shopping list for me is sell Ashavin buy Hazard or another flair player. Sell Chamarhk (much as i… Read more »

Witoldo

Dumbia’s cup-tied.

Master Bates

We already have our very own Hazards in Ryo and Chamberlain ie teen-wingers who can dribble, set up goals and score goals .

Ryo was very impressive in Holland in a half of a season he became their key player

david seago

although i think we still need a couple of world class players i’ll be more interested in getting rid of some of our crapper players.

If we can sell: Squillaci, Almunia, Chamakh, Fabianski, Denilson, Bendtner, (and possibly Rosicky and Arshavin) by the end of July 2012, and get in a couple of top players then we will be looking really strong heading into next season.

I

TSOTIA

usual story enh? Sell half the team. Was this not the same way most of the fans asked that players who later became greats in red and white be sold.
Not saying these will be greats but some still bring things to this team.

david seago

i don’t think that Squillaci, Almunia, Chamakh, Fabianski, Denilson and Bendtner bring much to the team at all. Two of them are on season loans for a start, Almunia is nowhere near the first team, Chamakh hasn’t scored for a year, Fabianski is the only one who could stay, but it will only be in a back up role, and i’m not sure that Mannone isn’t better anyway. Rosicky and Arshavin will be 31/32 in July so the possibility of moving them on will arise surely? We can, (for example) replace Squillaci with Bartley, Chamakh with Afobe, Denilson with Ozyakup,… Read more »

TSOTIA

sorry david, this is real life, not some fm or fifa game. You dont just kick players out because they’re over 30. In games, maybe; but in real life, that age bring a whole lot to the dressing room, and to the field. You’re never going to have two number ones. So, saying fab is no good and later saying he’s good enough only for number two is ridiculous. What else is his role in the team if not a quality (based on last performances) number two? Rosicky is a fine player any day and only a few players in… Read more »

jesus4uk.co.uk

Of those listed id keep Rosiscky and Fabianski, flog the rest and reinvest in one good player.

Scribblers

Squillaci, Almunia and Chamakh. Yep fair enough, all mistakes of different kinds, however we can only replace Chamakh if we get another striker. Although he does appear to have gone behind Park. Wouldn’t mind someone like Saha as back up, doubt we’ll spend big but we desperatley need back up for RvP. Denilson and Bendtner, weal can’t say much which hasn’t been said. Hopefully they have good seasons and we’ll be able to cash in. Neither of them, despite being fairly talented made the most of their oppourtunities with us. Fabianski’s back up, we keep him, it’s tough, we won’t… Read more »

david seago

replace Chamakh with Joel Campbell?

he looked pretty good last night against the Spanish.

AvenellRoad

Saha for Bendtner? Are you mental? Saha is past it, he’s crooked and can just about hold a place in Everton – he’s crap. The Dane is 23 and had he been given a proper chance ahead of Chamack (and not as a winger for the last 5 mins) he’d be a different player than he’s today. He’ll eventually (not for Sunderland thou cause they’re shite) turn out a great striker, but not for us since he doesn’t want to play for us anymore. Unfortunately

jesus4uk.co.uk

Would you all be offended if we got back Adebayor.

the only sam is nelson

after his spectacular dummy spit and “fuck you” slide at citeh

let’s see now

could think about forgiving that

hmmmm

oh, wait, here’s twitcher saying that adebayor has been a spuds fan all his life

so

yes, yes, i think some of us would be offended. can’t speak for anyone apart from myself, mind

AR

Whether people get offended or not, it’s safe to say it’s very very very unlikely to happen ( a diplomatic way of saying ‘never going to happen :D) We might even get Aliadiere back (remember him) but not Adebayor, I think the way he left and considering that the team has been reasonably successful after his transfer means it won’t happen. Of course, I see the point you’re trying to make and I think there are other options out there that can be pursued if they’re indeed looking for another striker. If Adebayor had never played for us and we… Read more »

I can’t really speak for everyone else, but, speaking for everyone else, the answers yes.

Frog

Ya and after we resign adabayor, maybe we could convince nasri and that cunt cashly to return as well. Then that big nose twat flamini will be begging to get back into the fold as well. Ridiculous

Ajax

Don’t forget Hleb!

Dawkins&Russell4uk.co.uk

Yes.

I’d also be offended if people started using this site to promote their imaginary sky-fairy websites. Oh.

AR

And I was merely trying to be unbiased and objective there. The true gooner in me says, fuck objectivity – we don’t want Adebayor! In fact I don’t want anyone who doesn’t want to play for this club. The true greats at this club always wanted to play for The Arsenal and even when they left, it was because the manager decided it was time for them to move on and the players had served us with pride, whether it be an Henry or Bergkamp (top class greats!) or a Kanu or Edu (top class squad players with respect for… Read more »

while we’re on the subject of former cunts, what about l’incredible sulk?

is he in the rusty cutlass class of former cunt, or could we swallow the little bit of sick that came up when we thought of him, just because he’d offer reassurance in the hideous and calamatous event that RvP were not available? i mean, he’s still got a turn of pace, knows where the goal is, seems like he’s grown up a bit…

AR

I’m on the fence with him mate, I don’t think he’s a long term option anyway but if I had to pick one, it would be him over Adebayor anytime.

Eric Irish gunner

No fuck him aswell, fucked off after wenger gave him his chance the cunt

James

All I know is Arsenal will be going nowhere for another 7 years with all you loser fans sticking to Wenger like glue.

the only sam is nelson

heh

0.00001/10

piss poor trolling, really.

AR

Going ‘nowhere’ ain’t such a bad thing James! I want my beloved Arsenal here all the time, I don’t want the club going away somewhere. Leeds and Portsmouth got up and left and they haven’t come back since. Newcastle are also gone someplace else most days and may I remind you that the silly spuds have been apparently ‘going places’ for years now?

I think we’re doing fine going nowhere, thank you!

The Don

James is obvously a spuds dan who is jealous because we are better now than they will ever be

The Don

^fan^

Mooro

Mind if I join the game of Fantasy Select-a-Cunt?

I get that he might go, well what’s the point? Swap one bench for another…but how about Pavlyuchenko, as back-up for RVP?

1. He seems to know where the onion is
2, He doesn’t want to be at the shithole
3. He doesn’t get along with the twitchy tax dodger.

Thumbs up or down?

ramgooner

i would love to have eduardo again!!!!back then i had a fuckin vision of us bein worldbeaters with eduardo !!!but reality sucked it out of me…..adebayor!!never…if he ever comes back to that dressing room he should be ready to bathe with a bucket full of gooners saliva…that scumbag!!!

Pele of Romford

Marco reus, 23, from borrusia munchinggladrags. He is quality. Can play either side or upfront on his Todd. His manager is Arsenes mate and admitted that we have contacted them about him. 15m buyout clause. Just been called up to ze Germans national team. all the talk there is how he wants to come us in jan.
The boy looks the biz and cheap.

Plev

The German’s have some great prospects at the moment, thats for sure. What about that Schurlle kid who plays for Leverkusen? He’s lightning fast, good in the air as most German strikers are, and his finishing is superb. Not sure what he would be valued at but might be worth a sneaky bid in January. I would love to see Park take his chances when he gets them, and won’t declare we need another striker if he does so. But I’ve had this feeling for a while now that Lucus Podolski would be the ideal back-up for RvP. The two… Read more »

Pele of Romford

Oh yea.

Fuck, the following: Nasri, adebyor, anelka, cashley, and anyone who thought they were better than us. I wish them the hemmaroids.

merdebag

Its probably worth pointing out that benayoun looks a little like steve buscemi in this photo. We should definitely sign steve buscemi, he’s such a good actor and we’re really weak in this department.

Spooner

Can’t bellieve no one has mentioned Bentley. He’d be a super-quality signing.

TSOTIA

lol. That’s all that this comment deserves.
