Sometimes in football you need a little break to get your chance, then when that chance comes you have to take it. Such has been the rise of Wojciech Szczesny it’s hard not to imagine that when he hit a shot at Lukasz Fabianski in a pre-game warm-up the fates decided to injure the older Pole’s shoulder just to give his compatriot his moment.
Since Jens Lehmann’s decline and departure Arsenal had been missing a real goalkeeper. Manuel Almunia was capable of great shot stopping but his decision making was scatty and he was a less than dominant presence in the penalty box. Lukasz Fabianski – by all accounts a star on the training pitch – routinely failed to replicate those performances when it really mattered. And then came Szczesny.
From the start it was obvious whatever ‘it’ was he had it, and in abundance, and Arsene Wenger now believes the Polish international has got the world at his feet hands.
“I have shown with my decisions that I am a great believer in Wojciech”, he told Arsenal Player. “The rest, how far he can go, I wouldn’t like to predict. That is what a career is all about.
“He is brave and that’s an important quality. You can make the goal small and yourself big. That’s another important quality for a goalkeeper. He is just at the start of his career though and you do not want to say too early that he is the finished article.
“I wouldn’t like to put too much pressure on him. My secret belief is that he shouldn’t set any limitations on his progress and personally I am confident that he can let other people judge how good he is. We are confident that if he keeps his attitude and determination to do well he can be one of the best. ”
He’s certainly got a big personality, on and off the pitch, and once he backs that up with the focus and performances required for a top level keeper then it looks as if this guy will be our number 1 for years to come.
outstanding goalkeeper.
and fuck cashley. vermin. ruined my breakfast
Cashley is pulling that face because he has a Nokia up his ass and someone has just called him to tell him he’s a cunt.
I’d go with Wojciech sneezed and Cole has been sent flying
Since when Mr. Blogs started writing Szczesny instead of SCZC?
Firstly, just for future reference, it would be ‘SZCZ’ and secondly; Szczesny is his name, so i’m guessing from that….
Someone shit in your cereal this morning mate? Give it a rest.
Oh the irony….
Kinda makes me feel bad for manone. He too had potential, unfortunately (for him of course) sczc b beat him too it. Fabianski let himself down by not making the most of his opportunity when he knew there were 2 quality keepers behind him. As for almunia, he must be enjoying life just collecting the cheque.
Fabianski actually started to look pretty good imo, unfortunately for him SCZC just looks that much better after Fabianski’s injury.
Great keeper. Great bloke. If he improved his distribution he’d be one of the very best.
Arsene says “My secret belief is that he shouldn’t set any limitations on his progress”
You blew that one fella it ain’t a secret any more.
That game against Udinese when he saved the penalty i knew we had a jewel in our hands
He is world class in my book
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9CnlWYkgLc lolllllllll !
He’s going to be a arsenal legend for the next 15 years and he hates fucking spurs fucking brilliant
Szczesny is a rare gem, far better than Joe Hart.
