Despite having made something of a breakthrough into the Arsenal first-team picture during the 2009/10 season, Craig Eastmond returned from injury recently to find himself having been overtaken by both Francis Coquelin and Emmanuel Frimpong as back up to Alex Song in the defensive midfield position.
Although he operated at right-back as Arsenal won the FA Youth Cup and Premier Academy League double in 2009, Eastmond has long been more comfortable in the middle of the park and it was as a midfielder that he was handed his Arsenal debut in a Carling Cup victory over Liverpool.
He made quite an impression that night with his tenaciousness in the tackle, and went on to make several further appearances that season, including starts in the Premier League games away to Bolton and Wigan.
Last season he made his Champions League debut, scoring an unfortunate own goal against Shakhtar Donetsk before experiencing a loan spell at Millwall, where he struggled to make a consistent impression and eventually saw his spell with the Lions curtailed due to an injury that he has only just returned from.
Since his comeback, Eastmond has been turning out for the Reserves, whilst also making the first-team bench for the Carling Cup tie against Manchester City and the Champions League group stage game away to Olympiacos.
With Coquelin and Frimpong now ahead of him, though, a long-term breakthrough at the club appears increasingly unlikely.
He’s never going to be any more than a squad player at Arsenal. He really ought to be looking for a move to somewhere that will see him get games.
We did try to do that, last year he was sent to Millwall but he could not break into their team, seriously. I was told by a Millwall supporters he was too weak even for them.

Whoever thumbed me down, is that not a fair assessment of Eastmond’s future at Arsenal? I’m not slagging him off, just implying that we have several players ahead of him and if he wants to play more than a few times a season, he needs to be at another club.

Why bother making a thread for this, this is so depressing on a day after we were humiliated by the 2011/12 Blackpool FC, Swansea will definitely go down because they cant defend, so that makes it even harder to take…Birmingham FC WEGNER OUT…..

Loyalty is great and we should all support the club at games but need a voice to tell the board and Wenger the current team is not good enough and we should expect better especially at the priced we pay

I type that response on all these threads about reserve team players and arsenal youth that I know nothing about. Granted, in this case I do recall seeing this kid get a few games in the senior side.
