Club tries to ease Wilshere fears

Arsenal have today denied that Jack Wilshere will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Wilshere was expected back this month but last week suffered a set-back with another stress fracture in his ankle. While there are definitely fears it could rule him out for the rest of the campaign, nothing is 100% yet and Jack will be assessed in a couple of weeks time.

In a statement released on Arsenal.com, the club said:

The Club can confirm Jack Wilshere has a small stress fracture to his right foot, however it is not accurate to state he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The injury is in a different area to his previous surgery, and it will be reassessed in around two weeks time by our medical team and medical experts who have worked together throughout Jack’s recovery.

This is a recognised complication of a complex rehabilitation process and, of critical importance, Jack’s initial injury is recovering well.

It’s easy to think and fear the worst when it comes to Arsenal injuries, but let’s hope we get some good news on this one.

“It’s easy to think and fear the worst when it comes to Arsenal” – The same applies to half time situations as well 🙂

Here's Waldo

My initial reaction was to pray for Jack’s good recovery!

Who was I praying to? Well, saint Tony Adams of course.

Is the picture in sepia because it’s been that long since we’ve seen Jack on the pitch?

cliffafc

Did they miss the so called stress fracture ? Or did it happen when he was rehabilitatiing at the super medical centre ?

“This is a recognised complication of a complex rehabilitation process” = “shit like this unfortunately happens when getting over an injury like that”

at least that’s what i’m thinking it means

jay

look shut it cliffafc, you’re not better than the medical staff or his GP, trainers and everyone else that’s been involved

you naysayers irk me no end, after all, they don’t want him to be fucking injured do they?

ausgooner

Stress fractures typically occur due to overuse… Considering that Jack has been out for months, I can’t help but wonder which part of our medical team dropped the ball on this one?

Bunburyist

Ummm…if they’re admitting it’s a stress fracture–no matter how small–they’re essentially saying he’s out for the season. By the time the bone heals, he gets back to training, then full training and ready to play, the season will be over.

See you in pre-season, Jack!

I’ve been preparing myself for us having to survive without Jack this season ever since things started going a little bit Vermaelen a few weeks after he limped off. The footballing gods decree that Arsenal must be without an important first team player for most of the season, every season; hats off to Jack for stepping into the breach whilst RvP gets his chance to shine, altruism at it’s best with a major tournament in the summer, along with the Euros ofc.

Wish you quick recovery, our own english Maradona. But these are the reasons why its hard to forgive Le Boss; who doent think he knew this before the window slammed shut.

Yes of course how stupid not to go out any buy another Jack Wilshere after all only last year Pep Guardiola said he had 11 Jack Wilsheres in the Barca reserve team so there must be a few going cheap somewhere a year on. And there are other Jack Wilsheres scattered throughout the football league here as well, you only have to check the football league highlights after MotD to see the superquality that’s so abundanct in the lower leagues. To be honest whenever I hear somebody moan “we should have bought *someone* so at least we could say we… Read more »

That was hilarious 😛 However, I don’t believe anyone’s calling on Wenger to buy another Wilshere (despite the abundance of them in Spain xD), people just want another decent midfielder so we don’t overload the ones we already have; that’s how Wilshere got injured, we didn’t have any decent backups and he played too much. Its’s not too tough to find decent backups. Newcastle bought Cisse who was marvelous in the Bundesliga last season (an example of a quality forward who was available), out of our 5 signings after 8-2, 3 have been pretty good and 1 (Mertesacker) will surely… Read more »

you’re right, the difference being you make the point cogently and reasonably instead of lazily calling the manager a wanker etc etc which is just annoying, frankly.

I’m pretty sure he knew this and believe it or not I reckon it was a factor in Eisfeld coming in now, if we were going to get him in the summer anyway we may as well get him in as (possible) cover if Wilshere doesn’t recover in time and our latest attempts to create a player out of the Parts Formerly Known As Diaby fail. I’d rather have someone a little more proven but with Coq/Arteta.Song/Rambo as a nucleus, having him to come in here and there along with Rosicky it may work out, unless he’s a complete dud… Read more »

“the Parts Formerly Known As Diaby” – I nearly wet my pants!

This seems to be a type of “Second Season Syndrome”.

Vermaelen made a huge and unexpected impact in his debut season, got injured early on in the next, and eventually wound up missing all but 5 matches.

Then Wilshere made a huge and unexpected impact in his (practically) debut season, got injured very early on the next, and will eventually wind up missing almost the entire season.

On the other hand, we also get a PROVEN LANS every season! Suck on that City!

Real shame young Jack was prob our best player last season he took the PL by storm ! I was really looking forward to getting him back in the team for the AC match. I think he played 49 games last year thats a lot of game time for a youngster no wonder hes crocked !!!

cliffafc

Sorry I irked you Jay but he should have been constanrl

SmokingGunner

He will not play this season, a stress fracture is at least 6 – 8 weeks and he will likely need a month of training before he is fit.

@Theonlysamis nelson. Wilshere didn’t actually come to replace an outgoing Wilshere, did he? I didnt ask for a clone, I asked for a stopgap, or an alternate, and the tone was very passive. How that seem to be ridiculous I dont understand. When faced with a dicey situation whose outcome you cant predict you try to err on the side of caution. How that seem to count as ‘foolishness’ to a ‘wise man’ like you, I don’t quite understand. And read my post again, nothing hidden, I didn’t even go close to namecalling. And if the ‘wise you’ think the… Read more »

Why do people always gripe about the Mert? Am I blind and delude to think he is light years better than Squillaci?

eleanor

At least the rest of our first team are nearly back. Except for Santos, that is. And it would be nice to see Diaby again this season. But when you look at injury tables like … http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php … the two Manchester clubs really stand out at both ends of the table. Given that both have pretty large squads, both rotate on principle, and both have the same points tally, you’d have to say that winning the Premier League isn’t as much about injuries as intuitively you might think. Obviously Jack’s going to be missed, but there’s absolutely no reason why… Read more »
