Van Persie hails Chamberlain as future great

Robin van Persie believes that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has everything he needs to have a big impact for both Arsenal and England in the coming years.

Happy to compare the teenage midfielder to Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, the Dutchman paid homage to the versatility of the Southampton Academy graduate as the season comes to its climax.

“He can have a big impact,” the Arsenal captain told The Sun.

“He’s shown that already in a couple of games. He has pace, he is clever, he knows when to pass, he knows to dribble and he has good technique.

“Basically he has everything to become a great player. I’m sure that he’ll have a bright future with Arsenal and England.”

Asked if he agreed with Graeme Souness’ recent description of Chamberlain as a ‘total’ footballer cast in the same mould as Wayne Rooney, Van Persie had no hesitation in agreeing.

“I agree. Definitely. I rate Rooney highly; he’s a big player, a very good player and an all-round player. He can score goals, he can provide assists, he can make nice actions, good crosses, passes. He has a bit of everything.

“Chamberlain does play in a bit of a different position, either on the left or the right wing although that could change in the future, you never know where you’ll end up. They’re both very all-round [players] definitely.”

The future is damn bright for the Ox and for the Gunners in general when you see all the talented youngsters knocking on the door

neutral

Yeah, with Ox, Ryo, Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott, and Gibbs the future does look very bright.

Only thing Arsenal needs, in my opinion, is a central striker (Poldi?) and maybe a top, top central attacking midfilder. Although a central midfielder may challenge Wilshere, Ramsey and Rosicky for their places.

Maybe a back up center back, to get rid of squilli

Moo Moo Toure

The Coq will be pissed on you not to include him in that list

bugsie

i was hoping someone would say that. to me beside wilshere, ramsey and oxlade he is the biggest talent we have

neutral

I should have included the coq, he can play in any position…

ramgooner

this guy coq really has some goodwill attached to his name.

wudupbay

that team may be good on paper but do we want a team with an average height of 4ft?

MAllen

Doesnt seem to be a problem for the worlds best football team – Barcelona. Or possibly you think we should take Stokes approach and recruit players that are big but with limited talent?

jeff

no we wouldn’t want a short player like Messi would we? Twit!

Midfield Corporal

In fairness to that comment, the prem is a more physical league than Spain, and refs here allow it to be. Let’s be honest, over the past few years we have been bullied out of games in a way the Invincibles never would have.

gunner_expat

For people who don’t know, ryo is more than 6″…

goonero

less about size, more about heart and desire for me. How many people did you see shrugging wilshere off the ball without him getting right back at them? Same with players like (prepares to duck for cover) tevez and aguero…not the biggest yes, but by no means weaker for it.

Jake

Ryo will be just as good as the OX. Man, I hope Ryo will play a part next season.

GM

I don’t know. Shades of Carlos Vela for me. We’d all do well to tone down our expectations on the young players because the last generation should have taught us that at least 50% of our nailed-on worldbeaters end up struggling at mid-table teams here or in Spain. Hope you’re right and that I’ll be eating hat next year.

ramgooner

im sure arsene will agree we need another top stiker.
im not sure about midfielder.my bet is he’ll give diaby a chance to shine.
hope he does an rvp.

why is my name required

He’s goin to leave defenders trailing in his wake, that boy. the last player capable of doin that to the opponent was Thierry. Ohh and besides Theo i think Ryo is capable as well ..

TAMCK

Saw a video of Ryo’s performance against Blackburn last night. He is being beast mode at the moment. If he can keep up that level he’ll be insane.

Rectum Spectrum

Never leave the coq out

MJB

Yes. The Coq has to be IN!!!!!

Cygan's Left Foot

I am just as excited about Ryo as I am about the OX, playing for relegation team and putting MOtM performance in every game. And I am sure next season we would see the young talented Serge Gnabry break into the first team just like Jack did whether we want it or not. But,I would rather we send him on loan with Miquel to Bolton.

Alex

Agreed on Ryo. He is going to scare some defences at the Grove.

goonero

When will our turf be named ashburton grove?? this “fly emirates” thing is getting on my nerves

Glory Hunter

We should send all our talented youngster to Bolton!

Master Bates

…and Liverpool . they need the the help

goonero

the only help I would give liverpool is if they needed a hand being pushed of a cliff…

Goonersville

Why didn’t match of the day show the oxs barnstorming run in the 2nd half where he basically run half the length of the pitch beating players and was upended but an already booked Stephen Ireland in the penalty area only for fatty chipmunk Dowd to wave play on. Great run appalling refereeing

Alex

Actually when you see that in slow motion, you can see that Ireland made the tackle… I’d thought it was a penalty as well, but it was a very good tackle.

Great bit of refereeing to spot that.

Runcorn Gooner

Could be the same reason they didn’t show Rosicky being clattered in the
area against Everton which was a certain penalty. Some at BBC would rather show longer highlights of AFC losing rather than winning.
The OX looks the real deal.Hopefully Hansen will say you won’t winning anything with kids next year about AFC…….and be wrong again

TAMCK

Rosicky wasn’t in the box when he was fouled and Ireland got the ball.

Midfield Corporal

In the box or out, it was a major debating point that should have been down IMO.

Midfield Corporal

Down=discussed

wandarah

Ireland clearly won the ball.

Cygan's Left Foot

What is this about getting the ball???? I could get the player first then get the ball is that not a foul???? He got the Ox first outside the area then the ball second inside the area.

Just like we use to say when someone get the ball with two footed challenge studs up or flying from behind not long ago. The reason that is red card (finally EPL understood the rules) because if you missed the ball you break the opponent player leg!!!!!!!

ilya

Just because he got the bowl doesn’t mean its not a foul people, he took a little of the ball and a lot of the player, in a goal scoring position, from behind…. 99% foul and booking. If anyone has played the game competitively, they will agree those will usually get called in a game. Anyway it was a better Dowd game then usual.

TAMCK

Except the slow motion replay shows clearly that he got all the ball and none of the player. It was a risky, but good and safe tackle. If Vermaelen had pulled it off, you’d all be rubbing one out over it.

Can’t just be happy with the win?

Siefuyoyo8

If you see the replay he actually got the ball

Tbird

Not to be pedantic but Ireland got the ball…this does not change the fact he is still a c*nt

Ca$hley Cole

Speaking of youngsters, does anybody know if Lansbury will ever get another shot for Arsenal’s first team? I know he is down further in the pecking order than Ryo and Ox and with jack returning also next year I can’t see him getting any games. I have always rated the lad and every time I see him play in the England U-21 setup he looks class.

wandarah

Lansbury is a curious one eh.

He seems to be pretty typical of the box-to-box tireless midfielder mixed with a decent level of technical ability that England seem to be churning out (hello Henderson!). When I’ve seen him play, he seems a lot of application and very little nous. He could probably manage a squad place with us, but at the expense of what? I’d be amazed if he made it at Arsenal. Not disappointed, just amazed.

TAMCK

I like Lansbury, but I think there’s way too much competition in his position in the first XI for him to have a decent chance there at the moment. Rosicky’s on amazing form, Arteta is a proven quantity, Wilshire will soon be back, as will Diaby (we can bloody well hope), Song is killing it, Ramsey… well we’ll see, Milan showed us Ox can pull a decent shift in the middle when he wants, and I don’t think it’s too outrageous to suggest that Wenger will want to bring in a big name midfielder in the summer. So bearing all… Read more »

goonero

I don’t see him in the squad next year, which is sad because he seems like a real good player and a gooner to boot but even as cover for song theres the the coq blocking him and frimpong too. In the advanced midfield positions, jack, diaby, arteta, rosicky, ramsey, possibly henderson all ahead of him and the versatile coq can play there too, for a young lad trying to get some first team action, don’t even think he would want to put himself in that position…

eleanor

It’s not only Oxlade-Chamberlain – as @neutral points out – there are others of real quality. Miyaichi has already made a real impact at Bolton – he’s 19 years-old and still learning. He was a star player at Feyenoord and has quickly become the same for Owen Coyle’s side. And he’s even younger than Jack. Ryo is just as tempting a prospect as Alex. But it’s not only thinking of a future team comprising Jack, Aaron, Theo, Ryo, Wojciech and Kieran … who cannot have been impressed with Francis Coquelin and Nico Yennaris this season; or Carl Jenkinson and Ignasi… Read more »

Shavid

where are all the people who hammered Wenger for signing him last summer?

Arsene knows!

Peter

To be honest, a lot of Arsenal fans have a lot of egg on their faces for various reasons this season. Many ripped into Wenger for splashing out on Oxlade-Chamberlain: within a couple of months he’d become practically a fan favourite. Many thought that we’d miss the Europa League and Wenger ought to be sacked before things got even worse: look where we are now. Many thought that Rosicky ought to be sent packing along with Arshavin: how many fans would say that today? On the other hand, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing: on the contrary, it’s hugely encouraging… Read more »

i agree. I have disagreed with some of Wengers decisions in the past as we all have. But i have never doubted the man, in my eyes he is doing a fantastic job. He has also admitted some of the mistakes he’s made in the past, (most recently with the bad summer we had in 2011) which is one of the things that makes him such a great manager. With regards to signings, you have to back a man that has made so many great decisions in the last 15 odd years. Sure he’s made poor signings, (who hasn’t?) but… Read more »

Piers Morgan's punchable face

Yep. agree with you both. I found it embarrassing when some fans were calling for Wenger to go – I don’t think anyone else in world football could have kept us amongst the Premiership elite while operating on a budget that would make a shoe string look beefy.
And heck, even if this season was a complete write-off and we finished outside the top 4 – I would still give him at least another season; football fans go on and on about lack of loyalty shown from players/managers but the surely the pendulum swings both ways.

Too Drunk to be Offside

I own up that I am one of the guys, who after our torrid start, had given up on Wenger………….even after years of supportng him, but at the start of the season I felt that Wenger had to go…… ……..and how happy am I to have been proved wrong……..egg on my face never tasted so good………This season has showed once and for all that the one person we cannot lose is Wenger. Now lets push on and show those Manchester money coughing bastards, what a Football Club is all about. No silverware, but the silver in the silver lining we… Read more »

Hehehe. The future is exciting. 6 seasons witout a trophy but i dont care because soon, we will dominate english football for a decade. Arsenal for life.
P.s: we now have fabresong.

Eteobong

We are Arsenal and we are coming back 4 all d trophies we’ve missed. The team is still gelling ever so well, n we will buy some proper players 2 prove we are better than barcelona. I knw we are the world’s best, the fans knw it, pep knows it. The team will live it

MAllen

Eteobong, I agree with your comments (I think) but on behalf of all the Arsebloggettes, could you use all of your keyboard when your post. Sometimes it is quite painful to have to translate txt speak into the Queen’s English.
I am GENUINELY not having a go at you, but there would hardly be anyone here if Arseblogs wrote his entire blog in txt speak.

MAllen

I think maturity has played a major role in our current run of form. Having brilliant youngsters is great but it needs to be tempered with on pitch experience. Remember 2008, Arsenal 4-2 up against the Spuds. We chased a fifth goal instead of keeping posession and winding the clock down, it ended 4-4. It was truely refreshing to see Song turn away from the Everton goal and take the ball to the corner flag to run the clock down. Arteta has a huge stabilizing influence on the pitch. He speaks to the younger players before and during the games.… Read more »

Gunner4life

Thank you mallen and I will write it again, YOUTH MIXED WITH EXPERIENCE!!! Thats why clubs like barca and manure win atleast one trophy every season, and thats why chelsea isn’t(they didn’t groom enough talented young players to learn from the older players). While our policy is the other extreme of chelsea’s, our young players in the past 5 years didn’t have enough quality experienced players to learn from. For me if a team is going to consistently be a serious contender for titles every year, then there must be a mix of experienced and youthful talented players in that… Read more »

It’s fantastic to hear such comments regarding the Ox, however, we must all remember that regardless of the Ox’s capabilities, Joey Barton is still a massive cunt.

TomC

All this positivity. Loving it. I think the coming transfer season will be defined as much by who AW lets go as who he brings in. I agree with the striker requirement. I’m on the fence as regards the attacking midfielder due to the abundance of riches @Eleanor describes above but I definitely believe the team will be lifted by dead wood being moved on. There has to be a correlation between the pick in team moral and AA going out on loan. Bad apples and all of that. Sell Chamack, Squillachi and Bendter (even as a loanee he manages… Read more »

SiKay

I have to agree with TomC, we will have a wonderful choice of players in the midfield for next year just a little bit of tinkering needed with the backup for the defence but will definitely need to reinforce upfront. I keep willing Chamakh to do well, contrary to popular opinion I believe he works hard and holds the ball well, but he is just lacking that bit of magic that you need up front to drop a shoulder, beat your man, lose your marker and fire home. I think he will stagnate dropping down the pecking order at Arsenal… Read more »

MAllen

I think Chamakh needs to go out on a loan. He needs a lot of game time.

Goonerhaea

Sorry I love the guy, I mean- he’s a gunner but I think Chamakh needs to go out on SALE… It’s better for him too.

Midfield Corporal

Our turnaround In form is truly impressive. I’d be interested to see a league table of the 38 games after the Carling cup defeat, I suspect we’d be hovering around the relegation places. Equally it would be interesting to see a table made up of our points upto the cup final defeat last year, with our end of season results this year, which I suspect would show us top. It’s probably not that difficult to do, but I can’t be arsed but would be grateful if someone more stat friendly could make the effort. Thx

heihaci

I don’t think many arsenal fans had a problem with the Ox signing. He was always one for the future but no one expect to adapt that quick!

Ryo also looks top quality at Bolton and impressed by his delivery from corners.

GoonerNugget

Don’t forget Eisfeld! Or did we just get him for spare parts for players like Diaby?

Serge Gnabry looks like a talent as well.

Fatgooner

I just hope that neither the Ox or Wilshere go to the Euros this summer. The Ox needs time to develop away from the the pressure of playing for England. And I just want Jack fit for the start of next season. After what happened last summer I don’t don’t want his fitness ruined in Eastern Europe. By the way, Peter, many of us were actually angry that Wenger didn’t sign the centre-half that we needed before the start of the season, not at the fact that we signed the Ox. But you are right: the turnaround has been amazing… Read more »

ilya

Certain arsenal fans always find some reason to be angry or complain about some nonsense. You all know who you are and I hope you keep this period and your previous comments in mind for the future. At one point earlier in the season I felt like I was in the minority with my ‘wenger knows’ attitude but I think that if people truly analyze their approach and attitude toward the team throughout this season, we may have fewer whiny, annoying, reactionary fans.

MAllen

I dont believe it. Fatgooner is being positve – I think.

heihaci

Eisfield was impressive on his reserves debut but then got injured and hans’t played since…

Gunner4life

If we are to sign quality in the summer, it should be players that will help us beat the manchester teams by producing that magic or moment of brilliance when the game is in the balance or be a quality cover defender when one of our defenders are injured(vertonghen comes to mind). I mean if you look at the points at the moment, had we beaten the manchester teams so far this season, we would’ve been well in the title race because we would’ve had 67 points, manure would’ve had 64 points (manure beat us twice and therefore took six… Read more »

I wouldn’t confuse Chamberlain with the thin whippets we’ve seen pass as wingers and midfielders. He’s what, 19, and built sturdy. He’ll put on a little more muscle in a few years. I have a vivid memory of him this season from the return fixture vs. Man-U. Chamberlain had been giving one of the Man U jackrabbits (raphael or fabio) a torrid time down the left wing. In this particular instance, the ball somehow got ahead of both of them in united’s final third. Both Chamberlain and the Man U fullback jumped in the air and lunged at the ball,… Read more »

Just wanted to say I generally hate the comments section of every website I view as they’re consitently full of vitriolic idiots. Although I don’t get involved here often, I always spend a lot of time reading the comments and (almost) everyone seems intelligent and measured and says things that are actually worth reading. A geniunely rare thing on the internet – thanks everyone for keeping me entertained.
