Olivier Giroud insists he has not joined Arsenal to replace Robin van Persie, despite speculation mounting that the Dutchman could yet quit the Emirates.
Speaking to l’Equipe, the French international, who penned a four-year-deal at London Colney on Monday evening, made clear that he moved to the Emirates knowing full well he’d be vying with the Premier League’s top scorer for a starting berth.
“When you make the decision to join a great club, you know there is already a great forward,” he said.
“I know what to expect. Van Persie is a fantastic player who was outstanding last season.
“He has been at Arsenal for eight years, I hope I will have time to adapt and improve. Anyway, I don’t go there to take his place.”
While Arsenal’s interest in Giroud was established at the tail end of last season, it was less reported that Chelsea had also been sniffing around the ex-Montpellier man.
Confirming that the Stamford Bridge outfit had indeed made contact with his representatives, the 25-year-old outlined why he rejected their advances in favour of Arsenal.
“Why did I choose Arsenal rather than Chelsea? Because it is a club I love. And I thought it would be easier for my adaptation.
“Arsenal is a great club, the facilities are wonderful, but I feel it is a club that takes big care before signing a player, notably considering human values.
“There are French players. There is also Arsene Wenger who let me understand he really wanted me.
“Chelsea is very nice, it is a great club, but I am not convinced (coach Roberto) Di Matteo knows who I am.”
It’s tough to gauge whether this sheds any light on RVP’s future. Arseblog News seriously doubts that Arsene enters negotiations with possible acquisitions by telling them all his best players are on the verge of quitting the club. But who knows…

He’s talking the talk and i’m sure he’ll walk the walk for us just as much.
Welcome aboard, son!
Just in case we lose Arshavin:
He’s 6 foot 4,
He’s 6 foot 4,
We’ve got Giroud,
Fuck Adebayor.
*fuck Adebaywhore.
This small details matter.
**fuck moneypayore
Variety is also important
Err he is 6’3
6 foot 3 and a half. 6 foot 4 in his boots. But I won’t split hairs if you don’t
Errr….
He’s 5 foot 3
He’s foot 3
We’ve got Giroud
Fuck Samir Nasri?
6 foot. FUCK
Hazard take note..
That’s what podolski’s was signed for, uve been signed to replace the German if he gets injured.
no , he’s been signed to replace Szczesny. FACT!
things are only true if you write fact after them. FACT!
….I….I think I’m in love…
Me….me too.
Who the fuck are you?
Has anyone else noticed a stunning resemblance between myself and the world’s smallest man, who just so happens to be small, wizened and chinese? Here take a look:
http://xfinity.comcast.net/blogs/tv/files/2010/03/He-Pingping.jpg
you both do look errily similar
He’s certainly saying all the right things. Very encouraging start.
A Chelsea fan I know yesterday laughed and said that he saw that Arsenal had made “another second rate” signing. I replied that I was having trouble hearing him all the way down in 6th.
The further assertion that once Roman gets bored of his little toy his club would be floundering somewhere in the Ryman’s League didn’t go down too well.
What was I saying? Oh yes. Would be great to see both Giroud and RvP on the pitch together, if we could accomodate them into a lovely formation.
hahahaha good comeback
“Yes Roman is leaving soon” – me, 2007.
He is a better owner than our Stan, that is for sure.
Careful…
Its not a popular view on this fantastic website but nonetheless if we look at investment and returns, Roman has been awesome for those cunts.
Now a few will enlighten me on his murky earnings process, which is a valid point however maybe they need to look at how Stan and the holier than thou Walmart make fortunes.
I won’t defend Kroenke or any of the other member of the board , I just want to say Roman hasn’t been ‘awesome’ for those cunts….wait he’s been awesome for them because they are cunts ,they want instant gratification and don’t give a fuck about the future. I think we are very very very late to jump on the sugar bandwagon ,the FFP regulations are coming . Besides if all clubs had sugar daddies, more people will die because of poverty , all the money will be spent to buy and pay wages for the people who kick a bag of… Read more »
Although it’s obvious how Chelsea have grown in stature over the past 9 years since Abramovich bought the club there’s no way of evaluating how good an owner he’s been until Chelsea are forced to stand on their own two feet again, I’m sure Rangers thought they had a great owner when they where winning trophy after trophy.
“I am not convinced Di Matteo Knows who I am.”
DM only knows how to lick Roman’s balls!!!
I saw a Chelsea fan on a forum ytd claiming that Guardiola and Wenger are ”overrated” and RDM was the best manager in the world.
*double facepalm*
I love how disgustingly over rated roberto di mateo is, he only parked the bus with chelsea and grinded out results and all of the chelsea fans think he’s a second coming of mourinho
de Matteo is a better coach than than his predecessor, AVB. But that’s not difficult to achieve.
I really hope AVB does go to Spurs so he can finish off all the good work Arry did in wrecking the club.
I also welcome Gman and wish him a fantastic time at Arsenal where he will be loved like a brother when he smashes goals in left right and centre by RVP’s side.
This guy is already sounding classier than the whole of the City and Chelsea team combined.
That’s not saying much. Heck, the sounds I make on the toilet are classier than the shit coming out from City and Chelsea.
Okay Giroud, now on to the hit list:
1. Shawcross
2. Na$ri
3. John Terry
4. Joey Barton
Pulis/Pardew/Allardyce
The whole Barcelona team.
And Platini. Although it could be argued that he’s included under “whole Barcelona team”.
Krul??
That would be just a waste of time.
Shouldn’t Adebayor be in that mix?
The Power of Arsene Wenger, so often understated.
Like any revolutionaries; rarely appreciated during their presence, but long remembered thereafter.
Hopefully Giroud fires on all cylinders for The Arsenal.
Matteo doesn’t know me….. He already has john terry… =D
Give him the #9 jersey……..now..lol
Nooo! I believe that thing (Arsenal #9 jersey) has evil powers.
It’s bewitched! It’s bewitched! Burn the No. 9 jersey!
Have to say, I love the guy already. Has looked good enough to play for us every time I’ve seen him and seems intelligent and grounded enough to take the step up in his stride. It’s also nice to have a contingent of players who’ve all said they joined Arsenal because of their love for the club, haven’t always felt that connection in recent years. As for Giroud choosing us over Chelsea, think it just goes to show what a great manager Wenger is, like dmcle said. How many times have we had a player sign and then come out… Read more »
Am i the only gooner who doesn’t care if RVP goes (providing it aint city).
7years we have to suffer watching him break down with a never ending injuries. he has a good 18 months and suddenly he wants trophies……. he may love arsenal and he may say its in his blood, but he is still dutch so who knows what is going on in his head. He is a good player but better have left before now and will do in the future……
I am not a million miles away from your school of thought. Don’t get me wrong, I want him to stay and think if he does and his form is anywhere near last seasons, we could be really dangerous. But if he goes or if he wants to go, then I say let him. As long as we get another decent striker in to replace him. Giroud looks good, I know Podolski is, Walcott is getting there but we need another proven goal scorer.
Walcott is getting where?
I prefered Kaba Diawara.
100K my arse,.
Have to disagree with you. RvP was unlucky in his early years with his injury – some due to reckless tackles and others due to carelessness. Even RvP has admitted that he didn’t take care of himself but in the last 18months or so, he has learnt to take his body’s limits into consideration and has been injury-free. I’m not suggesting he’ll not get injured in future (touch wood), but I’m sure he’ll over those injuries easier than before. Also, every player wants to win trophies. A player isn’t a player if that desire isn’t there and I want all… Read more »
“…he is still dutch so who knows what is going on in his head…”
What. The. Fuck are you blithering on about?”
Exactly! What has nationality to do with this?
Dennis Bergkamp is Dutch and chose to finish his career as a club legend.
Cashley Cole is English, but we all know what goes on his head: ££££
Ummmm….without him this past year, we wouldn’t have gotten a CL spot. Hell, if he wasn’t in the line up, we might not have even got a Europa spot…..and to say that he just wants trophies in the last 18? That’s every boys/girls dream when playing ANY sport, is to achieve the top trophy. Pretty sure that dream has been with him (and every other player in the league…except Terry. Because sheep-sheared bridge trolls can’t dream) since day one.
Van Persie probably peaked last season so expect him to get injuries in the futureetc so i’m not bothered if we cash in on him as this time round Arsene has invested in replacements!
Shatap silly billy, wasn’t bergkamp the man himself dutch? And who said rvp only started wanting trophies once he was well and banging in goals? I’m sure he wanted trophies when he first came to The Arsenal!
I beieve that the human values Giroud refereances here are the same values that will ultimately lead to RVP staying at Arsenal. Home where he belongs.
Bon Journal, Monsieur Blogs.
I see Chelsea fans in online forums claiming that Giroud and Poldi will flop in the Premier League ‘just like all of Wenger’s other signings’ and also that Hazard will be the highest scorer next season.
Guys I just can’t. I’m going to freeze myself in my fridge for 50 years, hoping that humanity’s intelligence would have improved by then.
Ben please ignore the knuckle dragger Chelsea fans their intelligence is an embarrassment to society.
“Nothing is infinite except the universe and human stupidity. And I’m not certain about the universe.”
–Albert Einstein
(Possibly he’d just said that after meeting a Chelsea or Spud fan.)
Lol,or maybe he met a couple one Spurs and the other chelsea cos only those two believe they are walking on water
Ready to kick some ass next season leave the kicking of nasri to M’vila.your favourite teacher VILAROUD
Why all the love for Giroud. I beg to differ. I hate him with all the bone in my body. But that can and will easily change if he identifies the enemies and start battering them. So much for love at first sight!
why?
he was just concerned about what would happen if he got ”too personal” with the Chelsea players. That’s right I’m talking about that cunt John Terry.
He probably has a good-looking wife. That’s why he’s not joining Chelsea

Time will tell…..
Welcome Olivier.
I try but it’s hard not to get my knickers in a twist over RVP’s future. It’s tiresome and I want it to be over and I don’t want to read posts about it or even write posts about it. But it means too much to me and I can’t help it. Sigh. If anyone offers RVP £250K a week, he’d be silly not to take it. We are his fans but he has his family and future to think about. His Euro 2012 experience may help us here though because any team that is willing to pay endless amounts… Read more »
Maybe he’ll realise that by the time you get to £100,000 a week you’re going to start to run out of things to spend money on.
Any Rangers players good enough for the Arsenal bench ?? They’d be cheap.
None good enough for the Championship, never mind our bench…….
If Jelavic was still there then yes.
He’s a cheating, diving scumbag – we dont do those anymore
Maybe McGregor as a back up if Fabianski goes and Wenger doesn’t feel Martinez is read but that’s about it.
Although, Craig Gordon is available and is a better goalkeeper who has been unlucky with injuries (so would fit in very well)
They always look good in Scotland mate….Diff story down here IMHO.
no wants their WAGs getting SHAGged by John Terry – FACT.
Hazard is juvenile !!
Maybe they should choose WAG’s who dont want to shag cunts?
Slags!
Giroud: “Je’taime Arsenal.”
Me(and all other loyal Gunners): “Je’taime Giroud”
He’s 6’4, bigger than fucking drogba. and oh so handsome.. oh i’d suck his
shit… am… bi?
no, just gay
Brilliant, we can recycle a song if our wee Russian jumps ship!
He’s 6’4″, he’s 6’4″
We’ve got Giroud
fuck Adebayor!
no point in signing podolski and giroud and letting rvp which is not gonna happen. sell rvp and we are back again as a side to compete in matches not for trophies.
Comedian, I think your having a laugh
What is frustrating for a few Gooners is that he hardly featured and did so very little when given a chance at The Euro’s…..how could a decent player not get in such a crap French side? Better get on You tube!
Benzema was picked ahead of him purely based on reputation.
Checked out Giroud on You Tube…..France must have the worst defenders and keepers in Europe! Haha….
Didnt you know that the French league is top level? 🙂
Unleash the terminators (entire Arsenal team)!
out for 7 years and the one year he’s managed to repay wengers faith by playing to his potential he wants out. whether arsenal are in trophies or not, i dont care if he is that that kinda player….what if he goes back to his routine of injuries after being forced into staying on a bumper package?you’d wish you’d sold him but you would be more understanding if he had stayed for the love of the club….but the choice is his…arsenal are certainly strengthening and are already far better than they were last season, if he stays, with wilshire yet… Read more »
RVP only hv one full season and now want out, if he leaves fans will hate him more dan Adebayor and Nasri bcos he betray their trust
Hard to top Nasrat on the hate-list.
The simple truth is we cannot replace RVP. The same with Cesc.
The biggest marquee signing would be to keep RVP. A player who puts bums on seats and keeps the sponsors interested.
And last but not least gives us hope to grab a title next year.
Wilshere’s fitness and keeping RVP is the main concern. If we lost RVP I would say we will struggle to compete as Pod and OG need a little time.
believe it or not, i think RVP is replaceble, only that Arsenal dont like spending more than £15 mill on a player. Any good finisher would thrive in an Arsenal shirt. I believe Eduardo was the man we had that would have scored countless number of goals but the Birmingham thugs killed off his career. As much as Id be hated for saying this, Berbatov will score and score loads….
What was stopping Eduardo before the injury?
Yes he was good, but he aint no RVP. Not many are.
My Biggest – Worry Now – Is what are we going to moan about until 31st August Now we’ve gone and bought players early !!
I think RVP will stay. There is no where for him to go. Inter is on bottom of the sea, City,Real, Barça, Bayern all of them have their own RVP. I don’t think he wants to win trophies “à la Nasri”. Giroud and Podolski are great signing and both somehow similar. Strong, tall and left footed. As most player they might need a season to adapt to PL, so if i were AW, i would keep VP at whatever cost for next season, as he brings experience to the front line, time for the 2 newbies to adapt. I wouldn’t be… Read more »
Guys is there any updates on Jack ?
What did he say? I couldn’t hear him over my orgasm. It was a screamer.

FYI: RVP THE MVP is not leaving , he has not agreed any fees with anybody, so pls gooners dont believe the rubbish you read about our captain.
It is just a way for the tabloids to sell more.
Um… “Vetrognen”? Do you mean Vertonghen, that idiot who flashed his bits to us when he realised Ajax didn’t want to give him a million pounds for leaving them? Yeah, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be welcome at the Emirates. He’s also not that great.
And usually, I try to refrain from being a bit of a spelling nazi, but I can’t help it here; it’s “Vermaelen”, “M’Vila”, “Walcott” and “Podolski”.
Hey RedCarrot, did you notice that the shorter the name, the more accurate the spelling? I think Goonerbegood is a spurs fan.
Ummmm M’Vila hasn’t signed, so we should probably leave him out of our line ups till confirmed, if you are going for fantasy, why not chuck Messi in there too..he plays for Arsenal as much as M’Vila does
I thin RVP will stay without signing a contract with the promise that we win a trophy. If we win a trophy he stays. If he doesn’t he goes.
Either way he will be of help next year and allow time for Podolski and Giroud to settle

Rvp needed reassurance from wenger on what was happening in the summer and he went out and got two top level strikers to share the burden.the only problem is if he does stay he will go for fuck all next year and he isn’t that old so if he signs a new deal and has a good season and we still don’t win anything then we would still get a decent price for someone who came 7 years ago for 2.5 mill.in arsene we trust!!!!!!!!!!
Thіs is my first time go to ѕee at here and і am truly happy to гeаd all аt alone place.
