As certain players in the Arsenal squad make it look as if signing a new contract is as difficult as trying to lick your own elbow while resisting the urge to stamp on John Terry’s fingers as he clings for dear life to the edge of a cliff, Laurent Koscielny has shown them (and us) that if it’s something you really want to do, you just do it.
Thomas Vermaelen showed last season that a new contract can be sorted out with little or no fuss, and this summer Koscielny, an £8m purchase from Lorient in 2010, extended his Arsenal deal until 2017.
The French international, and one of the most improved players in the Premier League last season, explained that it’s because, you know, he likes it at Arsenal and he doesn’t see greener, better paying grass elsewhere.
I am happy here I play for a big club, I am happy on the pitch and my family are happy here so I don’t want to leave,” he said in an interview with Arsenal Player.
“This is the first club I have stayed at for more than two years. I want to stay because I have everything to be happy here. I like everyone who works at this club, I like the fans, I am very happy to play for the boss and my team-mates are nice, so my decision to stay was natural.”
And with a new deal under his belt, Kos is looking for silverware in the upcoming campaign.
“If we start well, we can get into the race for the title,” he said. “We saw last year that we had some difficulties at the start of the season, but afterwards you saw the real team.”
Koscielny’s title tilt is backed up by new boy Lukas Podolski who says, “The Premier League has five or six teams who can play for the title and we are one of them.
“We really want to win this trophy and I hope I can score a lot of goals and make some assists to help the club in the Premier League.”
The new season kicks off on Saturday at 3pm. It’s almost here folks, it’s almost here.

He’s a walking example of how a player who messes up can win back the fans support (take not Robin). I couldn’t stand to look at him when he fluffed up in the Carling Cup final. But he worked his arse off last season and now I absolutely love him. He’s one of the best defenders in the Premier League and is probably going to get better. Never leave Bosscielny!

Kos got an unfair ride in his 1st season, I always told the guys I go to games with that he would be a star. They didn’t believe me, they do now.
Indeed, I know it sounds like trying to be cool and trend-settery but the signs that he was a classy defender were there for all to see in the first season, he just had a few bumpy games whilst adapting, glad he’s getting the recognition now.
Interestingly, the two best defenders in the Premiership both start with the letter K and the worst 2 defenders we’ve had in the last 5 years started with the letter S, maybe we should consider this when in the transfer market…
One is Koscielny but I’m not sure Sagna starts with a K…..

I’d like to see him join the Arsenal setup, like we did with Danny Karbassiyoon after his career ended far too early, he’s now our scout in the US.
