*It’s just a joke, I’m sure he’s better that this one performance
Perhaps this game, more than any I can remember, is a perfect example as to why stats don’t tell the complete story.
Judging by the numbers, one would assume that Liverpool had out-performed us. WHATEVER. What comes to mind is exquisite control. It was beautiful, and it had to be watched to be appreciated.
Stats never tell the whole story. Nothing tells the whole story.
These numbers, however, do tell a story: the story of a team who defended well as a unit, who never looked shaken, and two payers who finally scored after a bit of a drought.
I was watching the game on Canal+ and the french commentators said it’s been 88 years since Arsenal kept consecutive clean sheets in their first 3 opening games. This last happened in 1924, according to them. Can you confirm that?
stats are like mini-skirts…they give you a good idea, but they don’t tell you the most important bits.
“Moany bitchfaces made when a call did’t go his way”
You cracked me up, blogs. 😀
It’s 7am kickoff doing the stats, not blogs 🙂
JoeRandom…
Confirmed: 1924/25 P3 W3 F5 A0
Finished: 20th that year, escaping relegation because only two teams were relegated in that era.
I also know that Arsenal have never started the Premier League with consecutive 0-0 draws and the last time Arsenal started the season’s first two games without scoring was last year.
Thanks man! I do love me some stats..
Yawn……
Alistair….its obviously past your bedtime (yawn) so go see your mommy and she’ll wipe your little posterior and put you to bed!
If you do not enjoy statistics I suggest you not click on the Arseblog News articles with the words “By the Numbers” in the title.
@DOMHUAILLE MACMATHGHAMHNA
Dude, seriously that is the funniest thing i’ve read in ages!.
Hahahahahah….infinity.
*ribs.
@LG
Well stats do tell the truth to a very good extent.
eg: In some match, Dennilson made 76 successful ‘sideway’ passes. So you can say Dennilson is one deluded muppet who thinks that he is good enough to wear the shirt.
@7amkickoff
the Yawn comment was not for you but for the person above ya!
If we’re gonna go deep on stats, yes it is true that in his last season with the club Denilson had 91% pass accuracy. This is where you say “Yeah, but sideways doesn’t count, that crab fuck.”
But when you only take into account forward passes… Denilson still had 91% accuracy. Better than Alex Song, John Obi Mikel and Michael Carrick. So suck on that.
Saying that, it must be somewhat true in this case that stats don’t tell the whole story, otherwise Deni would still be playing for us based on that lot.
Denilson was played as a DM/holding midfielder, why the heck would he be spraying loads of direct passes, did gilberto? did flamini? song is an exception and wasnt as much of dm as the two former players.
Stats tell part of a story, these stats tell me that there is IMPROVEMENT!
Another stat that may interest you: Loserpool 0 Arsenal 2
statistics are like bikinis. They show you something but they don’t reveal anything.
Statistics are like bikinis. If you know the trick to them you can reveal quite a lot.
After the transfer day no show this was exactly what we needed. Especially pleased for Diaby. He was immense. Please stay fit.
Well done to the lads.
Enjoy!
Hudson, when you are optimistic, the team MUST have done well!
The improvement in the defensive stats are absolutely incredible.
What the fuck does Steve Bould do with these guys in training I wonder. Or maybe its also cause Song is gone and replace by the master Arteta who actually bothers about protecting the defenders
True.
For me the key change is discipline, not just with the back four, but also with the defensive midfielder position. Arteta does not wander like Song did. Arteta is a consummate professional wherever and whenever he is asked to play.
Also, I’m praying Diaby stays fit this season. A midfield trio of Arteta-Diaby-Cazorla looked fantastic today, and if they can continue to play together consistently, I think we may witness something special.
what are we going to do with Jack!?
Can’t do without Santi, can’t do without Arteta… and based upon his performance today, can’t do without Diaby…
(So it’ll all come down to who gets injured this season, assuming Wilshere finally makes his long-awaited return.)
Podolski really impressed today, not just the goal but his willingness to come back and help out Gibbs a lot.
And it’s Arsenal’s gain that Cazorla isn’t an automatic first choice for Spain, less wear and tear for those international breaks, but it does say how deep Spain are!
Cazorla will go out wide. Wilshire will go CAM. One of Theo or Gervinho will have to suck it.
Job done.
Considering how Cazorla’s so important for us, even after just three games, I think Jack will do a job covering for Cazorla in rotation and on some occasions, they’ll play together with Cazorla out wide or even playing deep. Jack’s first season with us involved him staying deep as well so that can work out.
0-number of people that does not agree that John Terry is a CUNT!
I disagree, because he is an Utter Cunt… 🙂
If we could only get a guy to run through and connect with girouds aerial balls, I reckon more goals for us. The guy jumps for each and every ball without fail and most of the time manages to actually divert it quite well.
Somebody should be on the end of those balls. Don’t let that handsome man down.
Leave it to little Jack when he comes back.
Also Suarez is a cunt
Im so glad with all his cheating, diving and being a complete annoying scumbag, that the referee chose to punish him with that penalty shout, sucked in racist.
The way this Scousebag bag team are playing it won’t be long before Sewerez
implodes
I THUMBED UP TO MAKE IT 70 THUMBS UP. SUAREZ IS A CUNT!!!
You deprived him of a 69? Poor bloke.
In other breaking news, Suarez is a cunt. Oh wait.
Did anyone else notice the amount of times that Suarez left his foot in or just plain fouled someone on the sly ? Two instances really stick out; the first when he loses the ball, but continues his run and body checks Oxo Cube – which leaves him winded on the floor for a good couple of minutes. The second was when the ball goes out of play and Verms is on the ground, Suarez makes a crafty stamp but pretends it was his momentum that caused him to do it. In fact straight away afterwards he turns around and… Read more »
Is it just me or does Skertel, Agger, Saurez, and Shelvey look like a bunch of escaped convicts. A girl at my work once commented that Skertel looked like a child rapist…
As blogger once wrote, I usually hate whoever Arsenal plays for at least a day, but those guys turn my stomach every time I see them.
Great game, good numbers, hope they keep it up. I always believed in Diaby’s skill, just hope he stays fit.
I think we all know why Suarez would have gone to jail for
To clarify, the answer to my above statement is biting an old lady
Scaring little children with his butt ugly face may also be counted in the charges
Not just you. I think the same exact thing when I see those guys (actually not Suarez though). Which is why it surprises me that Raul Meireles left them. That guy reminds me of the rat in Fantastic Mr. Fox. One knife weilding cunt that won’t hesitate to shank and rape anything he finds in a dark alley. He would have fit right in with the Liverpool prison crew.
What does a child rapist actually look like?
skertel
Agger and Skrtel! Question Answered.
I think this says it all: http://i.imgur.com/Btmru.png
Shelvey repulses me; he reminds me of the unfinished clone in Minority Report.
As is Gerrard. Statement of intent or not when he leapt for Vermaelen, he could have atleast acknowledged that he didn’t land too softly.
He could have damaged Tommy’s endoskeleton!
We don’t want to have to reprogram the Verminator, if possible. His current settings are perfect.
I think gerrard was frustrated as fuck today. That sliding tackle on verminator?. Ffs. Next time, Fuck off!.
He knows his time has passed. He’s just been in the news telling us all what teams were interested in him. It’s a desperate attempt to convince his manager that he’s still relevant to Liverpool. Hopefully his worries will unsettle the team and help them drop into the bottom half and beyond. They need to be in a league position commensurate with the class their fans and the club itself show.
mmmmmmmmmm, numbers
yum yum
obviously the above demonstrates how much we need a defensive midfielder to replace song er,…. and a striker to replace err…… no, hang on.
is there a measurement for diaby’s change from injury ridden £50K a week liability who wenger is a criminal to allow to stay at the arsenal to £30m midfield general who wenger is a criminal to allow to have slipped into the penultimate year of a measely £50K a week contract? just askin’
Your last paragraph confused me.
At one point the commentator said that Diaby had completed all of his passes in the first half. Can any of you confirm that?
That was Joe Allen. Diaby misplaced a whopping three passes in the first half (all forward).
WENGER OUT!
heheh i like how people think they know better
it’s a bit like telling that dead director bloke that he was a cunt to cast christian slater in true romance because what it really needed was joe black in the title role. or perhaps christopher biggins instead of marlon brando in the godfather.
Yes i agree he should be crucified for this three consecutive clean sheets. :))
Are u stupid Ur a fake saying wenger out after that !!!
Hi dave!
Welcome to Arseblog. Again, you’re going to hate it here.
@ dave:
“Are u stupid”
Yes. That is quite the question in this case, innit?
7 – Number of games unbeaten in the league.
only 42 left
43. We want to improve don’t we?
What I really like is that for the first time in 87-odd years we are three games into the season and still on track for an Unbeaten and Unbroached Season.
I loathe van Persie
Who?
Let’s not talk about non-arsenal players here anymore
Then we’d also have to stop talking about cunts here… Seems like that won’t happen anytime soon.
(Though I’ve all but forgotten about Judas, after seeing today’s beautiful display of teamwork!!)
I really don’t care what he does anymore.
He’s not like Na$ri, who definitely tried to keep the rivalry going even though he got splinters in his bum from all the time on the bench.
I don’t understand why he left, I don’t much care. But let’s move on, rebuild the team, and forget he even exists, no matter what he does. The more we shout about him, the more we validate any lie that he might have been a legend.
But Na$ri is still a C….
I don’t understand the sky commentary today regarding Giroud. He has only played 3 games since the Euros so I’m not worried about him, he will come good.
Remember this time last week when people were saying Podolski would be a goal-less flop for us?? I do.
Giroud deserves more time.
Podolski will score 10 this season but would it be enough? He is a very good sub for the real CF we don’t have right now. This season we’ll need goals from everybody.
Lu Lu Lu Lukas Podolski will score more than 20 goals this season!!! Mark my words..
Denilsahin. Lolz.
Rmb that moment in the match where Suarez was in the box infront of Mert and he just fell down like he tripped over Samir’s missing chin? Yea
I couldn’t understand why the commentators were saying that Arsenal ”were lucky to have gotten away with it”. Mert never pushed him! If I was the commentator I would have just spoken the hard truth like
“That’s obviously a dive!” or
“what the hell he’s flopping again” or
“Buck toothed cunt”
“if i was a comentator”
words that no fan should ever speak
i mean, even contemplating the very concept of neutrality is like.. well, it’s just wrong. one of the few things that sky have done that’s honest is that awful fan zone thing where they get a couple of idiots in replica shirts to shout at each other. it might be toe curling as fuck, but it’s more fucking real than the rest of their bollocks
I love fanzone, if only for that immortal moment when they had the celebrity special for the Arsenal v. chavs FA cup final in 2002.
“Ooh, Parlour’s on the ball, we’re so scared. What’s he going to do with it?”
Um… stick it in the top corner to win us the double, mate.
So. 0.6 more shots and Giroud scores. 😀 Let’s hope he does, the man’s been working his ass off. Deserves it.
On Sky’s halftime commentary, Neville was talking about Giroud over the clip of hiss run in the build up to his big miss from Diaby’s pass. He said, “He hasn’t got great pace, but when the ball’s close to him, … he makes this type of run, he bends his run. It’s a fantastic run. You cannot mark that if you’re Agger. You really are hoping that the quality of the pass isn’t there.”
We have Cazorla, Diaby, and Arteta playing those passes. So good luck with that!
Does anyone else think Steve Bould got the rope out? I can’t remember a time i’ve seen such a compact performance from this specific team defensively.
To go round John Terry’s neck ?
They probably use a laser now days.
Technology!
Unfortunately the death penalty was repealed in Britain…maybe they’d make an exception in Terry’s case?
The death penalty may have been repealed, but it’s perfectly legal to exterminate vermin.
Signing of the season
Haha this van persie dick should just take up comedy. on the fluffed penalty he said.
“i think it was my brother who did it”.
Hahaha, this guy is clearly a CUNT.
Next time he’ll say, “I think the ball lacked ambition to try and interact with the net.”
I let my inner child take the penalty… Oops.
…and then he scored hat-trick! He is a cunt and stop talking about him.
Best moment was ox vs that sterling kid it was like midget wrestling can we get a stat on who sissy slapped who more?
Brilliant… Simply brilliant
Haha, it was a bit of hand bags at times on that side of the pitch in fairness. I would say though If this was off a football pitch, Ox would absolutely murder Sterling. He’s a compact brick shit house of a player – while Sterling on the other hand seems to have the physique of a malnourished five year old girl.
100 – Percentage chance Giroud scores his next shot. Pray its not on international footie though.
I am beginning to see why arsene loves diaby so much. I shall never doubt him again.
I lost hope when I saw Diaby on the line up.
Damn, you Arsene. Why always you always prove me wrong?
We won today coz Gervinho didn’t start. He moves his legs countless of times like a caterpillar’s. Very poor footwork player. Just watch a Zidane poetic ball handling, and you’ll understand what i mean. It’s time to forget Van Persie fans. Get on boys!
blah blah blah
is Gervinho the flavour of the month to bitch about now?
The team where great today so get behind them or fuck off. He is not Zidane, hold the front page. And stop bringing up that cunt that likes little boys inside him, or whatever that bullshit was.
Yeah, and Ramsey is shit!
Wait… he’s actually a very good passer of the ball? Okay…
Gervinho is shit!
Wait… he runs at the defence and created 12 goals last season? Okay…
Giroud is shit!
Wait… he was the only one who attended my 16th birthday party? *swoon*
What’s Zidane handling the ball got to do with Gervinho?
Oh, and that “moving his legs countless times” thing is called running.
Just watching MoTD.
Van Persie maakes me fuckin sick
Just watching MoTD.
Diaby’s performance makes me fucking happy.
After all this shit that happened to him.
Who cares about that one-man Manchester club? They could barely beat a team that just moved up to the EPL (and wouldn’t have lost 2-0, had Fergie not gotten desperate and grabbed Mr. Chocolate Leg). (Choc Leg not to be confused for Choc Ice… classic.)
Go Arsenal!
Everybody is in here like “rvp this, oh rvp that?”. I’m just here like: “I like that brick. That’s a nice brick.”
i’d like to shake suarez’s hand ….
…. just to see him collapse to the floor at the slightest touch
That is if he lets you. Remember the second Patrice Evra incident? What a racist.
I may sound overly excited but I absolutely adore
podolski. His team spirit is spectacular. He would be the first person to give our players a pat on the back after a missed attempt or a failed try. Whereas I’d see RvP scream/shout at the younger players if they fluffed an easy shot. Excellent striker and phenomenally well rounded. His defensive side saved us when Gibbs would push too far up.
I would really like him to outscore rvp and keep pushing giroud, your moment is coming.
Excited!
Podolski does look a lot more pleasant than RVP ever did…
There’s something about Poldi’s smile and his attitude that makes me instanrtly adore him.
1 – number of times Kieren Gibbs bellowed at Giroud for missing a chance
23 – number of goals Giroud will score this season
Exactly, what was that all about? and from Gibbs
that shout from young Gibbs showed just how much this team is desperate to lift trophies, they know every chance missed only drags them back. COYG. i bleed red always.
No, lets fuck R van Placenta UP THE ARSE at Old Toilet, if he survives that, let’s fuck him sideways when he comes to the home of football.
Verminator programmed by Bouldy, “track” and “destroy”
I suspect you are a little anal with all these figures.
Wenger in. Board out.
Great platform to build on. Personally never worried about Diaby playing again…
Fabregas + pace = Cazorla
Diaby was so good today that “almost like a new signing” finally made some sense.
Diaby, Diaby, Diaby, Diaby..
He knocked out John Terry
Diaby!
(to the tune of “Let it be”) (by the Beatles for the young ones)
Send this in to the Tuesday Club (Alan Davies podcast for those who don’t know).
I reckon he’d sing it for you
Two things that stood out to me were how much podolski helped out in defense tracking Johnson back fantastically and how instead of standing and watching verm had a clearance after Vito spilled a shot and there were 2 attackers following the shot up. Great way to not give up on it and lead by example
For me, the two underrated performers were Vtio and Mikel.
Vito could have caught a couple of shots rather than parrying them, but he’s our third choice, and he kept a clean sheet. Against Liverpool. At Anfield. No matter what anyone says, he’s done well in the two games he’s played this season.
Mikel is our starlet. Diaby might take the applause tonight (and rightfully so) but Mikel is still our maestro in midfield. An absolute legend, I only wish he’d been with us since he was a youngster. Certainly worthy of a song or two.
Rad….if he’d been with us since he came to the EPL he’d be a City/Barca/Cheatski or Madrid player now as one of these oilgarch/sugardaddy Clubs would have offered him a 200K/week salary and a toss at the Owner’s harem!
Wenger would have sold him if he started with us because of the change of things and faces or you would have been hearing about Barcelo-CUNTS speaking to the press about how Arteta is Barca’s DNA and how they will love to have him in their team, All i wished was that he was here last 2 seasons. I bleed red always.
Barca trained, Sociedad DNA. Fuck Barca
2 no of arsenal goals 2012-2013
4 no of rvp goals 2012-2013
I’m struggling to see your point.
By this time last year, we were 2-10 on GD with 1 point.
We’re now 2-0 on GD with 5 points.
I know where I’d rather be.
The difference is Steve Bould and no Song wandering around doing his own thing
in midfield.Liked Song but sorry you are the weakest link. Goodbye
3- number of AFC clean sheets – 2012-13
10 – The new AFC superstar- Cazorla
7 – number of top class AFC defenders & midfielders – 2012-13
We can play this game all day and night but RVP won’t be the end of Arsenal…Podolski,Giroud,Diaby,Arteta, Cazorla, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Mannone and Oxlade-Chamberlain WILL be our saviours!
When Podolski was brought in I predicted that he’d be a winner but never believed he’d be so defensively astute! I was also amazed at how much of the counterattacking play originated with Mertesacker! When I saw Vermaelen racing towards the Liverpool goal and realized that Diaby,Arteta and Cazorla were there to cover, I breathed a lot easier. Diaby reminds me of a very agile giraffe….but when he outran a Liverpool player with ease and beat 2-3 opponents with equal panache, it became obvious how much we have missed him. The game itself was rarely exciting and Mannone was so… Read more »
Now all that Diaby has to do is master the little chips over the top that Song was feeding Rip Van Winkle with last year and he will be perfect. I reckon Giroud would thrive on the sort of passes Song was putting in last year. It’ll be interesting to see if Diaby will give it a go.
Would like to see him running at the defence a lot too. There’s nothing like making a defender react to you by charging straight into his penalty area.
The game was fantastic and I feel that we ought to be patient about the attacking threat our team can pose as the final third is still getting used to playing with each other. I feel the clean sheets are the best thing and we will need to continue that at any cost. Hail Bould!!!!!!!!!!

Abou Diaby, may all the Gods in the world bless you with good heath from now on !
“3 – Successful dribbles by Abou Diaby²
Eleventy – Successful dribbles I swear Diaby actually made”
Same thoughts exactly. Could you please precise how dribbling is defined by these stats, 7amkickoff?
I understand that what Diaby does so often (and what was Zidane’s trademark) is turn with the ball whilst receiving it in a direction least expected by the opponent (thus getting rid of the marker), as opposed to kicking the ball past the opponent and chasing it, which would be a sadly exclusive definition od dribbling.
Maybe we need a new stat?
It’s part science, part magic: basically he has to get into a duel with another player and win.
And by duel, I don’t mean Epee.
For all the love in world, Diaby deserves to be injury free for many more games and seasons to come. I was already impressed by him when he first signed and if not that cunt Dan Smith we would have our own version of Yaya Toure(with more flair) in our team for a few seasons now.
Who here felt unusually comfortable that we would win after scoring the goal? I just felt after Podolski goal, we can continue on to win. A rare feeling which I have not felt in ages.
Sorry, but I have to make comment on van Persie. What a selfish player. The way he celebrated…he looked for a second, that he wanted to kiss a badge ?! No bitter feelings just dissapointment after all.
Its nice to see a really positive outing by the boys, very promising if I dare say, while its good to feel elated and all,I don’t think its nice to wish rvp bad when he was a gooner he did awesome. he isn’t anymore let’s wish him well and move on.from experience any of the plyers we are praising today could turn around and do same.
Loving Diaby, reminds me of a certain viera!
When AW says he knows what he is doing then let him be!!
Many have made the Viera comparison, but I have a problem with it.
I don’t remember PV ever being that fucking quick…..
[…] Match Report – Video – By the numbers […]
GUNNERS TILL ETERNITY, I BELIEVE CERTAIN ANGELS ARE ARSENAL FANS. LOL!!!
Defence wins titles! We’re going to win titles
Got to say, that Diaby performance was sublime. I reckon he’s been spending his time off watch Paddy Vieira DVDs on repeat. The little flicks, the charging forward, the wonderful control, the defensive tenacity all reminded me of him. Hope he can keep this up for the season. He’s shown his talent numerous times, but that performance was really something.
Giroud just needs to take 0.6 of a shot and he’ll score
Gibbs has come on a bit aswell I’m glad to see. There’s been no mention of Theo being left on the bench again?.. I reckon Arsene will let him go in Jan.. Hopefully get Jesus on that wing nd chambo on the left
