Arsene Wenger says his team can take heart from the 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Middle Eastlands today.
For the second time in a week Arsenal came from behind to get something from a game, and Laurent Koscielny’s late goal was no less than Arsenal deserved.
It cements a solid start to this season and the manager is looking to take all the positives from the result.
“I am pleased because [a point] was the minimum we deserved today,” he said.
“I am pleased also with the quality of our performance and our spirit. Also a bit frustrated because I feel there was room to do more. We had early chances and very late chances, especially Gervinho at the edge of the box where he missed the target.
“But overall I hope this will reinforce our belief and confidence and reassure us about our potential in this league.”
And the boss was also delighted with how the goal scorer slotted back into the team in place of the flu-hit skipper Thomas Vermaelen.
“Laurent Koscielny had a great game and stepped in very well. We have three classy centre backs, and it is a very difficult choice. Koscielny, Mertesacker and Vermaelen – no matter who is left out can feel it is not right.
“But I will rotate them and take into consideration the strikers we will face.”
Still trying to find the video for that Kosielny’s skill in front of the 18 yard box.
Same here. It was a Rabona pass to himself, but for some reason no one has been bothered to capture it and it’s not in the highlight packages either. It was such a brilliant piece of skill, too. If anyone has it, please upload it or, even better, make a GIF out of it.
Someone PLEASE upload this.

There you go.
You sir are a gem.
Have some of this, how I’ve missed him so!

Pretty good performance by the Arsenal, honestly think goal could’ve been prevented if Arteta were to stay by the post like he was supposed to but the ball was at the top corner of the net. Harsh on Gervinho, hope he plays in Capital One cup for some confidense building. Probably like to see some youth in the Capitol One cup

Did you not notice the closest appendages to the ball were his arms when he almost pulled a Suarez? He’s no BFG, but he had no chance in my own humble.
I saw the goal it was perfectly struck by lescott in the top corner even if Arteta would have jumped it was going in.
Then heard people say Vito should have stayed on the line i dont think he could have saved that even if he had stayed on the line.
Yeah truly. Arteta had no chance. And ALL the reports, BBC, soccernet, etc are somehow putting the blame on the Don. I think the problem was that Lescott got the header off in the first place. And part of the blame for that must be with Kos and Rambo (i think).
But on another point, the commentators on my feed could not stop criticizing the so called apparent weakness in the zonal marking system, but did not say a word when Kos Bossed the ‘awesome’ man marking system. Ridiculous!
Yeah, zonal marking is always a lazy talking point, the Setanta commentators admitted that the statistics were in favour of zonal marking but nevertheless. As if man-marking is a foolproof way to shut out goals after set-pieces.
Our goal celebration showed how much of a team we now are. Pilling over each like that, smiles and all that.
That was an arsenal moment.

watch the video…haha watch mertesacker…he slipped on the way to the pile-up and looked confused . great goal. awesome team celebration. fans going mental was just great.
We are one of the world’s biggest and greatest clubs, yet also have the most family-like environment. I love it!
Hate to call it too early but there is less self pity in this team. That’s one characteristic I hated about seasons past.
You can just hear the engine sounds of the Chelsea bus preparing to park the bus against us the Grove.
Fuck them. Let’s fucking smash them, I have the faith in this team. 4 points from 2 games please. Oh and kick John Terry in the face while you’re at it.
We got Diaby back, so the last part should be no problem whatsoever.
He could be banned by next weekends game
We can compete this year. The way the goal was celebrated showed how much it meant to the players to get the deserved equaliser
I am really looking forward to the rest of the season unlike the same time last year
Brilliant today, a great team performance. Bring on the chavs and show John Terry what a useless twat he is….and on another note, i feel its the end of the road for Theo, he cant hold the club to ransom anymore, we simlpy have too many good players for that to happen,,,either sign for whats on offer or fuck off !!!
I hope if Walcott signs then he does a Rosicky and becomes the bestest player ever. i never watched the game but i have to now rely on Hansen who’s not as bad as the others, and the others, who are worse than Hansen.
The boss praise the Kos
“Alex Song did his best stuff going forward, but
Arteta knows his strengths, sits in front of them
and just patrols. He snuffs out a lot of danger that teams bring”.
By Jamie redknapp. He’s a twat but with what he said today, he’s now abit less of a twat.
He’s still a 42 carat twat mate. Totally wrote us off a couple of weeks ago.
He should close his legs, buy a fuckin suit that wasn’t made for Norman Wisdom and shut the fuck up.
Also, zonal fucking marking anyone? It’s like everyone got forced into this zonal marking hell after whoever the fuck that piss-poor commentator tried to put it on the agenda as hard as he could. Must be a fucking secret agent for the anti-zonal-marking organizations, that utter cunt.
Man City paid £27million for Joleon Lescott.
Arsenal paid £26million for Koscielny, Mertesacker and Vermaelen.
Wenger knows.
Best stat ever!
Comparable to the “Santi, Podolski and Giroud cost us 35 Million, meanwhile at Anfield…”
Brilliant! But unfortunately we gotta win something to be able truly gloat over these kinda stats!
Can’t stop smiling at the pics of our goal celebration. The passion in the faces of Giroud, Kos and all those players is just lovely.
Bosscielny!
I love the composure and, most of all, the patience displayed by the back. City had several dangerous counter attacks halted and utterly denied because we have those two key attributes.
Any one else wonder what Djourou is thinking after Arsene’s “We have three classy centerbacks”?
Any one else wonder what Djourou is thinking after Arsene’s “We have three classy centerbacks”?
So, what we’ve got here is a question, an echo, and nearly 60 people that feel they’ve contributed to the discussion just by leaving their thumbs all over the place.
Good night 🙂
Would any one have Raheem Sterling plus some money for Theo?
Duh!
Doh!
“I don’t agree with the club’s direction”- some cunt
“When I have to make tough decisions in my life I listen to the little boy inside me.” – same cunt
same cunt also wore an Arsenal shirt that said Number 1 Fan.
What a humongous cock. Why did you agree to wear that in the first place.
Why are you twats still talking about him? Fuck him, he left, we’re better now anyway.
Gervinho should be fined a weeks wages for his piss poor performance today, he should be ashamed !!!
he fluffed 2 great chances, yes
but the rest of his game was excellent. lets not be too hard on him, it was an all round fantastic team performance
And given a weeks wages for his performance against Southampton, so that makes him about even then….. Some fans are ridiculous,
With a player whose so positive like Gerv , it can be frustrating when the dribbles don’t work out , but you cant fault him for his attitude. Every time he had the ball there were atleast 2 players near him , opponents fear and track him so it frees space for others. He doesn’t look like a confident guy though.
Mertesacker is a different player to what he was last season. He’s not the fastest but his positioning is spot on. I lost count of the amount of times shitty just passed the ball straight to him!
They didn’t pass him the ball, he took it from them!
he wasnt too bad before his injury last season either except against Norwich and maybe Fulham, but he surely has settled in. Really like his attitude and the way he talks about the club, he loves being with us.
Indeed, his footballing intelligence is second to none and he’s showing clearly why he’s won 80+ caps for Germany. Circumstances were pretty much against him last season: thrown into a disorganised side at the start of September having not had the chance to train with his teammates, then had his ankle mashed up by the Stadium of Potholes just as he was hitting his stride in early 2012. Fantastic to see that he’s bounced back in a big way.
Also, can I just say that the photo currently on his Wikipedia page is awesome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Per_Mertesacker_Arsenal_vs_Sunderland,_18_August_2012,_Pre_match_7_%28cropped%29.jpg
As an out of shape defender , to me he is an inspiration.
7 according to Orbinho. Joint highest for a single game this season, and one more than he had in the previous 3 games combined.
Basically Shitty are one dimensional, trying to pass through the centre every time, and getting found out.
Good performance… Go on gunners! I wanna drink good beer with that cup with a crown come may
Superb performance. Our improvement in defence is nothing short of incredible. Mertesacker deserves a lot of credit too, his gangly legs trap everything coming through (despite him not having the speed ‘every modern day defender needs’)!
I kinda feel sorry for Djourou, not out of poor pity, but also because Wenger didn’t call him ‘classy’ either.
He might have blossomed at other clubs where he has the opportunity to play week-in week-out like 2 seasons ago.
straight after the game i was kind of frustrated that we hadnt won after our 1st half performance and our great fightback in the 2nd half, and particularly gervinho’s 2 really good chances in each half. frustrated not just that we could have won, but that we could have beaten those fuckers and taken their unbeaten home record but on reflection after the past couple of hours and just having watched a crappy film, i’m just delighted with the draw. we were great, amazing team spirit and consistency every single player played great and fought with heart even lovely old… Read more »
I remember us losing 1-0 at etihad with Judas on the team but today was different. we were a team not some song chip finding Judas which if not going through we just accept defeat.I like this season already. we lost who we lost but gained a whole new team!
Was worried when I saw Ramsey on team sheet ……but he was really good today. I’ve knocked him before, but he showed all his great potential today.
May I also add, using ths wonderful forum to say that John Terry is an attention seeking, dog fucking cunt.
calm down. he’s one step closer to nobody seeing his no good face again.
John Terry that is…
Should have won by a cricket score this one. Poor finishing was our undoing, yes gervinho wasted some clear cut chances but he still kept the citeh defence in tenterhooks and once this happens mistakes are bound to happen (i bet dollars to donughts terry will slip next weekend from a gerv step over). I’m really excited for what ramsey can do for us this season. Likes to feed the forwards with his passes and anytime soon I see an assist from him to giroud.
Superb performance all round today, our point was worth more…& how quiet were their ‘fans’?!
Well chuffed for Kos,hopefully he can point our BFG in the direction of the oppo’s net-starting next week I hope!
it was bloody cold today, is bould still going to be wearing shorts in december?
i hope so 🙂
Why do you hope so? 😀
Wenger is a gentleman I reckon. He should have offered bouldy his bloody jacket……..at a good price!
But with an option to buy back if Bouldy makes the jacket toasty.
After today’s game it should be made illegal to comment about zonal marking during a game. Holy shit that prick commentator was driving me nuts with his stupid drivel
Yeah makes me want to “zonal mark” him in a corner and beat the shit out of him!.
Zonal marking this, zonal marking that………meh, piss!
So true , damn tool thinks he knows more than bould and so many paid professional coaches . To criticize anything without specifics is lazy and infuriating.
I thought the most useless part of his drivel was when he said something like, “I know they say statistically that less goals are scored against zonal marking but all I know is when I go to games I see goals being scored against it all the time.” Thanks for the well reasoned opinion fuck-knuckle.
I fucking love Arsenal. The celebration makes me smile every time! We are a bunch of very happy Gooners and rightly so! Bring on the Chavs next Saturday!
Must also point out that I’m in love with Carl Jenkinson.
Maybe the best crosser of the ball on the team right now
Actually I’m so in love that now for me Jenkinson is synonymous with love itself.
I’m in Jenkinson with Carl. Must point that out.
Who would have taught, myself included that Sagna is going to find it pretty tough getting back his place.
I was in love with JenKinSon before it was cool
Well done arsenal. Things can only get better. Good riddance John Terry..I got no time for people like him.
Terry just retired from international football!
That reduces the number of times I have to watch this cunt parade himself on my t.v. Out terry.
John Terry QUITS international football.
All other england players.(hands in air)
“We made it, our wives are safe”
No one’s safe now he has more time on his hands.
(‘Time on his hands’ like when he slips, haha.)
I prefer to think of it as International Football telling John Terry to fuck off.
Fantastic arsenal side we just made a statement. Up gunners.
If u pity Djorou wat about Sebastian squillaci
Why the fuck is Murray Hewitt managing The Spurtz?
Surely he’s get more happiness out of managing Flight Of The Conchords? At least they MEAN to be funny to laugh at….
I’m a legend can’t wait for my statue
Yes Freddie! “If anyone kicked me, Lauren would kick the shit out of him”, said it LIVE on MOTD2! What an Invincible Swedish legend…..
Good performance, must beat Chelsea now.
Slightly off topic, does it bother anyone else that United were gifted three points at Anfield? Season after season, poor United sides are favored by refs. I don’t think they deserved all the titles they have won unlike Arsenal and Liverpool. Managers need to speak about this, maybe take a unified stand, appeal to the FA with stats or something, I don’t expect the FA to do much but at least it will highlight the issue.
Really, not only the FA but the print media too. Did you read how they are all going about Valencia’s blatant dive saying he was clashed into by Glen Johnson? This was a match i saw live (on TV) and all the replays showed absolutely no contact between the two. Its saddening and infuriating as the victims could as well have been us.
@Ali Sorry mate but Fergie runs the FA, they suck his cock so much it’s embarrassing. To be honest, I never understood why we have to call him SIR Alex Ferguson, in my opinion Wenger should be knighted, what he did for English football in terms of quality and playing styles is fantastic. It’s managers like Wenger and the teams like Invincibles which makes the Premier League the most watched league in the world. He really is a genius, sometimes he gets it wrong but ultimately he’s also right. Plus he’s bringing a sense of stability to football, his fight… Read more »
gervihno is the new kanu infuriating and exciting at the same time,
terry retire ,1 less overrated cunt 4 to go, hopefully steve me ,fatlard ,shreck and cashley will be next
arsenallllllllllllll!! we are forming great army
n showd city money cnt buy winnin spirit.
cheeers to all arsenal fans 😀
Great away fans once again!
What’s the probable League Cup lineup?
We have quite some depth if we are playing £16m Arshavin, £15m-rated Walcott, and £6m Santos. I’d like to see Eisfeld and Chamakh get some game time, with Giroud as a late sub getting us our fourth goal and his first one…
[…] “科斯切尔尼踢了场伟大的比赛,他进入比赛的状态非常好,我们有三名优秀的中卫,这很难从他们中选择二人,科斯切尔尼、默特萨克和维尔马伦-无论谁不上场,我都于心不忍。” […]
