Arsene Wenger says that he’s got no plans for retirment and that he’s excited by the prospect of building his Arsenal side into one that can compete for honours this season.
The boss admits he’d like to have kept Robin van Persie at the club but that the arrivals of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud will allow to him to build a new team.
“There are still miles in my legs,” he said. “In life it is like you are going on a mission and it does not cross my mind to finish. You work as long as you can.
“I would have preferred to have kept Van Persie though. There are not 100 players in the world who can score 30 goals in the Premier League.
“So you have to find another solution. To rebuild, that’s exciting as well.”
Of course questions have been asked in recent days about why he didn’t rebuild a bit more with the transfer funds available to him, but with three new players to bed in, on top of relatively recent purchases like Mertesacker, Santos, Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho and Carl Jenkinson perhaps he feels like his squad can only cope with so many new additions.
Time will tell and hopefully the rebuilding will start in earnest with three points at Liverpool today.
Heres to another decade and beyond with Le Professor!
…with lots of homegrown, financially responsible trophies!
with lots of promises and acquisition of top, top, top talent.
Wait did I say top, top, talent?
no way, not unless he changes his ways. We need to keep our best players, how will we win things if we keep selling the best players and keeping the squillaci’s and denilsons, and chamakhs
Now we can look forward to every transfer window and count how much profit we made of those poor Mancs bastards. For what? to win one or two trophies? Been there done that. Right Arsene!!!!. I must say this, you deserve a pay rise Arsene. Without you this club would have made a lose EVERY year and MAYBE just maybe win one or two trophies. But, Stan the yank will have less profit and that poor sod usless manager would have lost a 7 million a year job and bonuses on top of that. Is it worth it? Of course… Read more »
Spuds had to ask for £27m of taxpayers’ money just to build a stadium. We don’t owe the government any cash and have a stadium that ensures we will be able to compete with big clubs in the transfer market.
That’s using your money wisely.
We’ve seen many clubs spend majorly and won nothing. So you thinking we would’ve won something in the past had we spent is just bollocks. No one knows.
And what a bright idea, spending more than you can afford. The Greeks should’ve thought of this one.
Why can’t people bitch and moan reasonably?
This called “Positive Transfer Balance”
Agree with the boss & the arseblog as well.
Podolski to get his first goal today and 3 points I hope
You should have put a bet on, mate!
Had 10 euro at 8/1 mate 🙂 more happy with the win and clean sheet
How right you were… How right you were
I had Podolski to score first, 2-0, 134/1. But I only put a £1 on! Bitter sweet
If rebuilding is so exciting why didnt you buy us two more players and make us competitive
There is no top top top quality player to buy. Can’t you understand???. Leave the man alone, he has got squad good to finish fourth and get into the CL money.
What happened after henry left?
We were considered the best team around that season and we were close to the title.
So i guess we will see the same again.
Come on Arsenal.
exciting for who exactly? The fans who pay big money, or you who gets paid big money to sit on your arse
Wenger just looks exciting in that picture <3
i’m hoping that the shakeup of the coaching staff will revitalise and and transform the team, and will make all the difference.
in previous years the most frustrating thing for me is when we havent played to our potential, especially when we get so disappointed at being knocked out of the champs league that we seem to give up on everything and have our traditional spring collapse.
if that can change, our team spirit and ruthless desire to win and play till the end, then we can challenge.
and lets start that today with a big fat juicy 3 points
Can we please fast forward to january so that wenger can quickly acquire top, top, top fuck all!.
I can’t anymore of this agony.
So, you’re in a state of abject despair just two games into the season. Maybe it’s just me, but I reckon this speaks volumes about the mentality of some of this club’s fairweather fans.
It takes one day to rid us of what a “fucked up transfer deadline” we’ve had. That’s exactly what gazidis and the board likes. They will forget, don’t mind them and as long as that continues we’ll always go through the same kind of below par season every time.
What “fucked up transfer deadline” exactly? Don’t get me wrong, I think the club’s squad could and should be strengthened, but you’re carrying on like we did nothing at all this summer except lose players. If you choose to believe all the rumours that the press make up that “such-and-such player is about to sign for Arsenal, is having a medical, no wait he’s off to liverpool” then yes, measured by that we’ve done badly. We all know that the stuff that gets talked about in the newspapers is all bollocks, so getting upset because it turns out to be… Read more »
The fucked up transfer deadline that was supposed to replace alex song. The one where Wenger said we’d get defensive cover and never did. The one where we almost ha a team that could win the title but chose profit instead. That was one fucked up transfer deadline to me
I think some of the doomers here are the sort of people who’d win a multi-million lottery jackpot then spend the next 3 months crying about the tax they had to pay on it instead of enjoying the millions that were left.
Alright…some of these “fans” need to shut the fuck up. I get it – you wanted Sahin. I get it, you wanted signings. But we have 3 new players to blood into the team, and a list of roughly 9 midfielders. What did you want? Half our team to leave again next summer looking for “first team opportunities”. The way some of the reasoning in these comments work, it’s as though if we’d just bought one player; if we’d just spent another 25mil, we’d be guaranteed a trophy….and now that we didn’t, we’re guaranteed relegation. There are still 11 talented… Read more »
Because Gooners are just so adept at predicting our clubs’ fortunes and course of action.
2 seasons in a row, we make a priofit. That shouldnt be the case if we want to challenge for major honours. Year in year out, we are told to ”have faith in the squad” when they clearly arent good enough. The board are a joke, turning Arsenal into a business and are more concerned with making money than winning trophies. How can we say we’re ambitious when we have sold Cesc, Nasri, Clichy, RVP, Song in the last 12 months ? We cant, we’re no longer ambitious. Spurs are becoming more ambitious and look as if they want to… Read more »
Spurs look more ambitious? Give me a break mate. They’ve sold modric and replaced him with dembele, a good player but definate downgrade, we sold song and replaced him (in the squad at least) with Cazorla, who looks like he could end up being better than Cesc. Yeah we sold van Persie but we’ve got two quality strikers instead, yeah we could have got more players but don’t mistake panic spending millions of pounds at the last possible moment for ambition.
“Spurs are becoming more ambitous”, I didn’t say “spurs are more ambitious”. Huge difference there.
Anyway, let’s not be drawn towards a spuds argument, they remain utter shits. I just wanted to make a point
@highberry
I do believe Caz was bought to replace Cesc/Nasri, it just came 1 year later (they wanted him last summer)
Squad players replace Song, I just don’t know if they can
Ah misread you there, apologies! Definatly no point arguing over the spuds, let’s just mutually enjoy the victory today!
Hopefully 3point today come on guNnS let’s kill some Reds today Gunners till I die
and if jack can come back fit and healthy and pick up from where he left off, then we’ve got a really top top team that can beat anyone
this season is ours!
Wenger, stans’ fucking puppet.
Wenger pre-Stan acts the same way as Wenger post-Stan.
So Wenger’s still Wenger.
agree with above post, I have not seen any difference in Arsenal pre-post Stan, which is why I cannot understand people who are upset at Stan and his “profits”. He does not get dividends, maybe by paying off the debt, Arsenal will be worth more (you can argue success would have a similar effect…), which would increase the value of his investment, however that would also make Arsenal a wealthier club, so, in effect, what is good for Stan is good for Arsenal. Can’t see how he is raping the club for profit. However, he is not taking risks for… Read more »
I’m optimistic for the new season… I’m confident that Giroud and the POD will come good. My only worry is how many goals can Gervinho, Walcott and Arshavin contribute from wide areas
I am just as optimistic that this team can gel and share the goals around as i was two weeks ago however since deadline day my major concern is that the squad isnt deep enough for a sustained challenge on all fronts
I’m not sure where the goals will come from if we get injuries to Giroud and Podolski as they are the only two consistent goalscorers ( for their previous clubs) Gervinho and Walcott really need to step up this season and score more. Fingers crossed
Today’s a great test. We have played a team who only wanted to defend and team that kicks not only the ball but the players.
Liverpool play football by rights it should suit our style, it’s early in the season but today should give us a decent idea of how good our defence really is and what we are about as a team.
All this talk of our defence being sorted is as premature as talk about our strikers not being good enough. It all takes time but today is a decent and more realistic test of both.
haha a reasonable and balanced summary. surely it has no place on the internets!
i think QPR and sp*ds yesterday show us that new signings won’t guarantee 3 points or the Quadruple. Buying the wrong asset may be as bad or worse than not buying. Where oh where are these right assets and why do we look like were not moving heaven and earth to get them.
Man U’s new asset settled in quickly last weekend and showed you get what you pay for
That’s because he’s a cunt like the rest of them.
too bad they lost their opening game at Everton though right?
Wenger…He buys/sells when he wants!….COYG
And peter nobody is in a state of despair about the two games so far into the season. Ok no wins and no goals but there is a lot of positivity to be taken from them, the new defence and the new signings. The despair derives from witnessing the same mistakes summer after summer. We needed the players we brought in to add to the squad we already had to challenge to the top honours. But then we sell two of our best players and dont bring any new players to strenghten the squad so we could be strong enough… Read more »
I look at this team and i know it’ll be another trophyless season. We’re one cazorla injury away from a seismic disaster
By that rationale United are one RvP injury away from a tropyhless catastrophe of a season…
“Spurs are becoming more ambitous”, I didn’t say “spurs are more ambitious”. Huge difference there.
Anyway, let’s not be drawn towards a spuds argument, they remain utter shits. I just wanted to make a point.
heard wenger said he is expecting a TOP TOP TOP performance from the lads today.i immediately cried.history suggests when he says top 3 times, the opposite happens.

Fuck off !!!!
This is some weird shit, I googled this post and found that it was posted on numerous Arsenal forums. I sugggest deleting the post
Thumbed you down by mistake, apologies……
And I just do t get the argument that buying players don’t guarantee success. It’s so simplistic and obvious. Of course it don’t but if you worked on that premise a club would never invest in anyone. The right players are out there for us it’s just unfortunate they are the ones we sold to our rivals. Call em cunts call em what the fuck you like if it makes you feel better. But I’d much rather be going into this season with rvp and song than without. Imagine carzorla and jack with rvp and giroud and podolski. To to… Read more »
Voldermort…imagine if he we were ambitious enough to have brought Mertesacker, Arteta and Santi in when Cesc was there too
Big game for jenks if he plays up against sterling i personally would play kosser if hes fit. Any links for the game???
Shutup old man. Time for you to check into old age home.
Just heard the Ox starts today..lets not be on the back foot, lets tear into them today, that quick tempo high pressure, win the ball back in their half style that Chelsea could not cope with last year…COYG….
The ox starting good decision imo
The deal between Wenger and Kroenke looks pretty obvious: Make a profit in the transfer market, and in return Wenger gets £7m a year and free rein to run the club as he likes. Yes he finds rebuilding exciting, he’s a developmental manager, that’s his kick. This state of flux will remain until he finally decides to call it a day.
AVB he fucks up when he wants…..twat…
geez, you negative moaning people on the internet have got the loudest mouths … its really really BORING, you BORING fuckers! you people have already written off the team. the season has only just started and already you are pissing and shitting all over the club. why do you come here? to say how shit everything is when we’ve only just played 2 games? no defeats, no goals conceded? if all you care about is how much money a club spends then why dont you just fuck to to manchester and wave a little flag up there and celebrate how… Read more »
Um…cool the fuck down, thankyou!
Thing is blind faith we have had some truly world class players in the last few years and sold them. My family are all west ham fans and I know now exactly how they have felt all these years. One day the club may realise that by winning a trophy your best players may just want to sign new contracts. Other top players may want to come. Fergie created a dynasty on those lines wenger almost done the same but for some reason we let it slip. I lknow football goes in cycles but our decline was and still is… Read more »
bee why dont you open your eyes, this squad isnt good enough to win anything.
Wenger is always bleating about only wanting to buy players of top talent who are better than what we have….I give you Sylvestre, Chamakh, Gervinho, Ramsey, Giroud, Fabianski, Park. Jesus, we must have some shit. Guardiloa…get him in, give him £100m to invest in the TEAM and watch that investment pay off straight away.
Bee its called debate and opinions. Not every one agrees. It doesn’t make people who disagree with you or the way the club is going as less a fan than yourself. Il support my club like I have done for 40 years or so, Il go into every game thinking we have a chance of winning it regardless of who we play, il shout and scream as I always do. The difference between me and you is that you think we will win enough games to win the league I don’t. Oh and the other difference is I don’t abuse… Read more »
Manone in goal. *shakes head* . Nothing more to add.
Except.
COY MIGHTY G!!!
He had a solid game mate delighted for him, szcz needs competition
[…] 来源:[Arseblog News] […]
what a fucking goal on the break
from our useless lack of ambititon signings etc etc and so on
come on you rip roaring glorious gunners
giroud –> cazorla –> podolski —> goal
nice
jenks doing well after a shaky start too
Podolski——>cazorla——>podolski—–>goal
Let’s please watch the same match. COYG!.
The cross field balls jenks done ealier is giving me kittens. Settled now tho. We look good solid and confident all round.
heh i’d rather shit myself watching somebody who’ll die trying for the arsenal than somebody who’s only there to pick up the money – and jenks is a gooner, so whilst i’d rather he didn’t shank it for corners or give it to racist, as long as he’s trying i’ll wait for the good bits and remember those instead.
hahaha “where’s your famous atmosphere”
Spot on Sami.
Was there last year at the atmosphere was shit then too. Was stuck at the back in the arsenal bit and coudnt see the other half of the field as everyone was obviously standing up and the upper tier is so low It blocks yr view.
Never go there again a shit hole
We are all Arsenal fans and obviously love our team…I do not believe it to be either disloyal or unfaithful to critically analyses where we are going both as a club and as a team…..As a club we are doing quite alright in fact we are the perfect franchise for our new American owner…..And that’s what we are…unpalatable as it maybe we are run as a club to our American overlords expectations….no team could loose for whatever reasons Cesc, Nasri, Clichy,RVP, Song, in 12 months and claim to be ambitious……our team is designed to be there or there abouts….3rd or… Read more »
