Capello hints at Arshavin comeback

Fabio Capello has given Andrey Arshavin a timely boost by intimating the little Russian could be recalled to the national team in the future.

The 31-year-old winger has effectively been stripped of his country’s captaincy since Dick Advocaat was replaced by the Italian and with playing time hard to come by at the Emirates he’s not even been selected for recent World Cup qualifiers.

Nevertheless, having watched Arshavin in action against Reading, a match in which he was sprightly for 120 minutes, Capello has hinted he and compatriot Pavel Pogrebnyak could make comebacks.

“I recently visited Reading’s match against Arsenal in the League Cup,” Capello told Sovetsky Sport newspaper.

“I don’t rule out the appearance of Andrey and Pavel in the national team. Again, for me the main thing is the quality of the game. I follow all of the matches Arshavin and Pogrebnyak play.”

In other Arshavin-related news; he takes his family to McDonalds. Apparently this is worthy of EXCLUSIVE status in The Sun. The world is doomed.

I think he could do with more time in an Arsenal shirt this season, he has looked like someone who can make a difference for us when he has come on.

Maybe give him a solid 30 mins in the second half more often. Bring him on on the left with the freedom to drift more central as and when he can. He just needs a bit of cover behind him but I have noticed he has made the effort to tackle and win the ball back a bit more recently.

He is seriously underused at the moment

Arsh is special. Leeds vs arsenal, he came on and assisted henrys goal. Arsenal vs qpr, he came on and provided the cross that led to the goal, something gerv found to be rocket science at that moment. Reading vs arsenal, in the dying minutes he singlehandedly took the ball from his own half rushed to the other end and unleashed a strike that the keeper keenly parried to walcotts path to make it 4-4, saved our arses. Arsenal vs fulham, 9 minutes on the pitch, bam a penalty for after good work down the wing. (why arteta, why??) Btw… Read more »

Matt Jarvis' Uncle

He assisted for the winner against Sunderland not Leeds, that was Alex Song.

That will “kill” Ramsey!!!!!!!!!!!!.

We really are not making the best use of Arshavin’s talents. Every time he has come on this season he has made an impact. Yet Ramsey and Chambo come ahead of him which arsh gets get around 10 minutes.

and he’s not made the best use of his talents either over the past few years 🙂

but i agree, i’d like to see him play more. and perhaps play centrally off the striker

Cygan's Magical Left Foot

It is a crime to know that we The Arsenal need to pull it from 2-3 to win AT HOME and Arsene bring a player like Ramsey on to safe the day while he has Ox and Arsha. WTF, if that doesn’t show the man has lost all touch with reality I don’t know what it is.

For a moment there I was thinking “wait, how could Arshavin play for England?” Then I remembered and had a bit of a laugh.

I am not really sure whether Number 10 role suits Cazorla the best. I think he is better off playing wide or even in central midfield where i think he will excel. He has got marked out of the game too often in my opinion. He has got quick feet but does not possess enough dribbling skill or pace to get past his midfield marker. And also the fact that he doesn’t carry that much of a goal threat. Considering how Podolski has been playing i think its better that we pushed cazorla out wide and maybe play Arshavin in… Read more »

Agree with you. Cazorla can provide crosses from the wings and Arshavin can create from middle. They can help Giroud and Arsenal score more goals.

100% agree. Anything that is to girouds benefit is okay with me. The lad just wants to score more everytime so more assists should be the ideal situation for arsenal. Get in arshavin!.

argonaut

I can easily see Arshavin going to Fulham, scoring a hatful of goals and providing plenty of assists for Berbatov, and then us ending the season below them.

Fergie the Gooner

I was watching Arshavin when he was warming up on the touch line at the weekend. Senderos got off the Fulham bench, had a bit of a jog, went over to Arshavin and the two of them had a five minute conversation before Senderos disappeared off to the Fulham bench for the rest of the match.
