Wojciech wants Arsenal to Szczoldier on in Europe

Wojciech Szczesny believes if Chelsea can win the Champions League so can Arsenal, while Lukas Podolski says his sparkling goal has capped off a couple of good personal performances.

Speaking in the aftermath of last night’s gritty 2-0 win over Montpellier, our Pole in goal, having kept a first clean sheet since George Graham was sacked, made clear that Arsenal are aiming high in Europe’s premiere competition.

Speaking to the Evening Standard he remarked: “Of course we have [taken inspiration from Chelsea]. They weren’t fantastic in the Premier League last season but had a fantastic run.

“I hope we can do what they did last season but do a little bit better in the Premier League as well.

“You only take part in competitions to win them. There are fantastic teams in Europe and ones probably more likely to win it than us. But I’m in this competition to win it, so that’s my ambition.”

While Szczesny is already eyeing a potential Wembley final on May 25th, teammate Lukas Podolski says he’s focusing on the final group game in Greece which will decide whether the Gunners finish top or second behind Schalke.

“We can now look forward to our last match against Olympiacos and we want to win,” the German told UEFA.com.

“After that we can start to think about the next round. It’s not easy when you come into a club from another country and we play every three days.”

Reflecting on his fierce volley, a goal which takes his tally for the season to seven, Podolski also afforded himself a moment to pat himself on the back.

“When you score a goal like this you’re very happy. The important thing was to win and qualify. It’s great to have done that. This is my first season and I hope the coming years also turn out like this.

“I’ve played very well in recent matches and I look forward to scoring a lot of goals for this club.”

That is the first time for a while I’ve felt totally comfortable watching us play.
Well done Arsenal. Goes to show experience and stability counts for so much in the Champions League.
It’s so great to see Man Shitty and Chelski will be playing on a spursday night where they belong.

Lettraggad

City may not even qualify for Europa league , now that’s value for money.

Nordin

Samir Na$ri…hahahah…

Josh

And here’s to Chelski crashing and burning out of the Champion’s League!

Dr Baptiste

Don’t worry, Rafa will save them……. Hahahaha!!

the only sam is nelson

lovely routine 2-0 win, with no buttock-clenching nonsense at the back and a wonderful pliant opposition content with taking 40 yard punts

if only we could play montpellier every week, with spuds guesting once in a while to keep things interesting

Cazorla Want For Christmas Is You

Its such a treat to have Shezza back… One can visibly see how his confidence rubs off on the defenders in front of him.

Nordin

Thats exactly what I wrote a few asreblog posts before…and strangely I got thumbed down!! Wtf for??!

Haha I just love SZCZ’s interviews. He never fails to have a pop at our opponents, and he didn’t disappoint today. ‘ I hope we can do what they did last season but do a little bit better in the Premier League as well.’ 🙂

By the way, why is the final this year at Wembley again? It feels like they played there for the last 4 years.

Vyom

150 years of FA or something like that

Ian

Wembley again due to the anniversairy of the FA.

Merlin's Panini

I guess it’s because before the 2010-11 final at Wembley it hadn’t been there since 1991-92. Catching up a bit. In 55 odd years they’ve only used Wembley 6 times for the final. This next one will be the 7th, of course.
The last final was at the Allianz Arena, by the way.

Attasmani

That final never happend. I didn’t see it and it never happend. In my world we will be the first London club to win the CL this year 🙂

Lettraggad

NR 1 has been back for 2 games resulting in one clean sheet and 2 wins more like that pleas.

argonaut

Any coincidence that our upturn in fortunes came when Szcz returned?

Nordin

My same sentiments exactly!! That’s why he is our No. 1. Not only in his GK ability, but the confidence of the defenders in him. Just like our famous back 4 playin in front of David Seaman. Gives you great feelings of confidence and security.

crank

such a positive lad….great bliv…….lyk hiz comandin nature at d bak as well………..COYG!!!!!!!
