Arsenal’s draw against Bayern Munich in the ’round of 16′ reunites Lukas Podolski with his former club and gives Per Mertesacker another chance to play on home soil.
Podolski spent 3 fairly unsuccessful seasons at the Bavarian giants before returning to former club Cologne, and speaking to Arsenal Player about the draw he seemed determined to state the bleeding obvious.
“They played in the final in 2010 and last year,” he said. “It’s a big club but we have the chance to win against Bayern Munich. They have a very good team with big players. There are two matches, one at home, one away. Both teams have the chance to win.”
He stopped short of saying that footballers have two legs and two arms and a head and the game is played with a ball. Meanwhile, although Arsenal’s recent form hasn’t been great, Per Mertesacker reckons Arsenal can, like Madonna, get into the groove before the ties are played next year.
“Maybe it’s a good opportunity for us to face them in February because we will be in our rhythm,” said the BFG. “We will hopefully go through the Christmas period in a strong way. We can do that.
“We have a lot of potential and Bayern know they will face an Arsenal squad that will be strong in February.
“We have to be consistent until then. We have to show that it’s not only our potential which makes us a good side. We have to get good results until the next Champions League game. It’s a long period for us and the German teams have a little break and a little rest. We will see what happens in February. But we hope we can get into a good rhythm to face them.
“Strike a pose there’s nothing to it.”
It’s going to be a tough test against Germany’s best team but that is what the Champions League is all about, and with two fired up Germans to kick the ankles off the cowardy custard that is Arjen Robben, we’re putting everything we’ve got on an Arsenal win*
*Yes, we have been drinking. Yes, we know it’s early. It’s nearly Christmas. Shut up.
If we can build some momentum in the league, and add 2-3 real quality players in Jan, then I say we have a shot at munching munchen up! If, if ,if….
Just out of interest: which 2 players would everyone like to see at Arsenal, ideally?
I’ll go ahead and say: Lewandowski and.. Isco
Signing Isco would be a huge for us, 17 million is his release clause I believe. Well within our price range.

Arseblog News never fails to make you laugh.
Where’s our winter break?

Looks like it’s time for a Mertesacker dance gif then…

Hahaha is he trying to be a T-Rex or something! Brilliant
It will certainly be an open and interesting encounter.
Bayern are very direct in their play, which is the kind of thing that can trouble us. However, our style of football is also the sort of thing that troubles them.
I think we can pose a problem or two on the counter attack. Their line up against Chelsea in the CL final was insanely attacking, some would call it unbalanced 🙂
After all, it’s the UEFA Champions League. Embrace the heavyweight competition. Show them we are one of the true elites.
That Mertesacker gif made my day!
I want the dam busters music playing on the flight over, for it to do a symbolic dive and charge towards an actual damn, only puling up at the last moment, and for wenger to stand on the touchline wearing a steel green helmet the whole time.
21/12/12 – The End of the World
Sp*rs fans have been seen praying that the World does end today.
They can then finally say they finished above Arsenal.
Haha, that GIF is brilliant! Personally I reckon if we play in a disciplined manner, press hard and hit them on the counter, we can have them. And hopefully Diaby has an injury free 2013 which can make the above a more plausible dream.
Welcome to the champions league gooners . You’re never going to.have easy matches mates
‘welcome to the champions league gooners’? thats about as pointless as welcoming homer simpson into moes…we’ve both been here many, many times, we need no welcome! we are the arsenal, champions league regulars!!!
go back under ure rock 5pur2 fan
It will be a hard game but i think we have big chance of winning the game, when arsenal have their best day, no team in the world can beat them.

Those shirts. Just, those shirts.
Footbal pundit Ian Ladyman was quoted in the Daily Mail today: “Arsenal will lose to Bayern home and away simply because they aren’t very good.”
I hope Arsene Wenger and every one of his players reads these comments. Stuff to make your blood boil. Let’s be ruthless for a change. Let’s destroy Bayern Munich on 19th February at the Emirates.
Ladyman? nuff said.
Such sharp insight. They won’t win because they aren’t good.
I could be a bloody pundit if that is the expected insight.
Two words that prove you right Brian.
Robbie and Savage.

Poldosacker but what os our younger Germans, eisfeld and gnabry. I think they should play a bit more especially eisfeld who plays with maturity beyond his years in my opinion
