Pat Rice awarded MBE

Pat Rice, player, coach and assistant manager, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s honours list.

The Northern Ireland international played a total of 528 games for the Gunners after joining as an apprentice in 1964, and after a spell at Watford served as Arsene Wenger’s trusted lieutenant until his retirement last summer.

Despite what some folk on the Internet might say, Pat Rice is an Arsenal legend, a man who lived and breathed the club, and whatever you think about the honours list his contribution to Arsenal deserves recognition.

Arsene Wenger said, “Pat is a true Arsenal legend and has committed almost his whole life to Arsenal Football Club, which shows huge loyalty and devotion.”

Although his full name was hijacked by that cunt Evra at Man Utd, Pat’s service to Arsenal should never be forgotten.

In Pat we Rice.

Amusa

Very happy for Pat. But what is MBE?

Lettra

He was already awesome so he didn’t need it In Arsenal eyes.
He is now to be titled Sir Pat Rice.

THEREISBEARCUM

MBEs don’t get to call themselves ‘sir’.

We still can though.

Santi Cazorlas coming to town

Try reading a book once in a while!
Well done Pat, we all love you

Otis

I hate that you have to clarify an award for Pat Rice with the idea that he might be more than what a bunch of morons might impart from internet heresay and media bollocks.

Thanks for everything Pat. You’ve given most of your life for the club we both love, and that’s far more than I’ve put in. We’re forever in your debt.

well deserved. nice one pat.

Spooner

Lovely stuff. Does this suggest Her Majesty is a gooner?

THEREISBEARCUM

Spike Lee, Osama Bin Laden and The Queen!

What is it about The Arsenal?

Armando

God save our gracious Queen,
‘cuz she loves the Arsenal team,
God save the Queen!
She doesn’t like west ham,
Chelsea or tottenham(scum!),

God save the Queen!

HRH Queen Elizabeth II

One is indeed a Gooner.

nicmac

May I ask,
Clock end or northbank ?
Your Majesty.

Red Fred

Have never understood why he wasn’t given a testimonial year this year. I know they aren’t popular these days multi millionaire players but he doesn’t come under that category. 40 years service to the club. True legend.

Tenzo

Inkosi Mayikubusise Bab’ uRice. May God bless you for everything you’ve done for Arsenal. Some of us are too young to have seen you play and truly appreciate what you mean to this club, but loyalty like yours deserves every bit of credit and respect it deserves. You deserve a statue.

DoubleDoubleDouble

Playing honours with the Arsenal:

1 League title
2 FA Cups
3 FA Cup Runners Up*
1 Cup Winners’ Cup Runner Up

Part of Arsenal’s first double winning side and Arsenal Captain.

*The 1980 FA Cup final is the first game that I can remember clearly, and to this day I fucking hate Trevor Brooking as half my school were West Ham fans.

Giroud's perfectly chiseled face

I’m a newer gooner, but in a time when people are selfishly leaving left and right, I must say I do appreciate his loyalty. Congrats and Thank You!

Wow am damn happy for you PAT you are truly a LEGEND…..UP ARSENAL.

Show up in shorts pat and even further cement your place among the legends. Though i’d rather he didn’t, i have a feeling he’s gonna.

A good example of how the oldies were loyal one club men nothing van stapleton, nasri etc (sadly every footballer out there) can say.

2 decades later we can see Jack included in that list.

SJ1986

da da da da, Ma’am’s a Gooner….

Shamps

Congratulations Pat. Arsenal through and through.

An embodiment of loyalty, and cool as a cucumber t’boot as demonstrated by his pose whilst embraced by an anxious Le Prof. If only more of today’s players and fans were cut from similar cloth.

Fatgooner

Pat Rice awarded an MBE? Outrageous!

He should have refused to accept anything less than a Knighthood.

And Peter Hill-Wood should have got a CBE – Constantly Bloody InEbriated. (Ok, I know it doesn’t work).

Anon

Yeah, not even on a humour level.

Kiss my Arsenal
