After being stretchered off against Everton in the FA Cup last weekend, Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said he feared the worst for Ryo Miyaichi.
And today came confirmation that his season is over as he needs surgery to repair his ankle ligaments. Speaking to the official Wigan site today, the Spaniard said, “It’s a real shame that Ryo has suffered this injury after working so hard to regain his fitness following a setback earlier in the season.
“His professionalism and work ethic on a daily basis have always been superb and we’ll do everything we can to help him make a speedy recovery.”
The Japanese winger made just 7 appearances for the Latics this season and rather than a season of development his injury problems mean he’s likely to be no closer to the Arsenal first team for the next campaign.
It would seem another loan spell will be on the cards, hopefully this time he’ll stay fit and show what he can do.
Lots of injury problems? Sounds like he’s just right for Arsenal!
Gallows humour aside, it’s a real shame. I still hope he’ll make it at Arsenal, but the more time that passes the harder it’ll be. Come onn Ryo!
The injury is a real shame. He looked really good in pre-season and looked like a season on loan would be just right for him to get into our 25 man squad. He’s one of the youngsters i hoped would get first team football. However, even though we won’t be seeing him playing every week for us next season, I think if we can get a work permit for Joel Campbell, we’d improve our attacking squad options greatly. He just has that raw talent you look for in a youngster and in my opinion is better than the media darling Zaha.
Absolutely. For once we got the loan right. The guy gets PL experience, Wigan were actually happy to play the guy, and Martinez seems to have a decent philosophy.
He really should have moved on this year, and we might have eased him into the first team squad next year.
Millions of Arsenal pounds are spent on players who sit on the bench, lie on the physio table and then leave on a free transfer. A major reason why we buy cheap and pay dearly. The sustainable model. The no trophy model.
Yes, we should sign more robots who can’t get injured and who only need a shovel full of nuts and bolts once a day to feed them.
Man, that would be awesome!
Roboto Martinez
Peter Crouch does a nice robot (but he’s shite).
Robot Pires
You should look at this – http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php. It’s not just Arsenal who have injured players you know.
So in your expert medical opinion, how should we avoid such players?
I’d like to see the list of the free transfer departures… are you bemoaning Bischoff?
It was a dirty challenge in the Everton game that injured him because they were getting beat 3-0 at home the toffees got dirty and injured our ryo it was not a pretty challenge and it was done out of spite more than a genuine desire to win the ball , get well soon ryo
That spuds game couldn’t have gone better tonight, here’s hoping they go all the way to the Euro Disney final and then fall on then fall on there arses.
I was thinking the same! I was sort of hoping they would lose it in the end to deflate them for the final stretch in the league, but the distraction of the Europa League will serve nicely. Maybe that 4-1 scoreline will be enough to wipe those smiles off their stupid faces. Not to mention the heavy legs they will carry into the Fulham game after going through the extra time vs Inter
Its a good job they dont rely on one player to drag them along.
Oh…hang on…
There’s an old saying; “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.”.
Bale’s overpaid.
Also It does raise a few eyebrows how Spuds couldnt defense a 3 goal lead and without bale they lose 3-0.
The result proves ones and for all they are a one man team.
4-1 ***
Another leg sapping away game. They get hammered and still have more fixtures to play. Perfect. Big distraction. Same for Chelsea, tough fa cup replay, euros away tonight. Its all going our way, we HAVE to take advantage and put together a run of wins.
Nice to see the gallas OG…
Martinez is a cool guy.
Sack him. Him and the board.
Good lad but i’m afraid he won’t make at Arsenal. Lacks physically imo, not right for the Premier league. Should’ve had more game time in Holland. Anyway, best of luck ti him re recovery.
Let’s hope he regains fitness and form in time for Arsenal’s Japanese tour. I am based in Tokyo and Ryo is a very popular guy here – the locals are justifiably excited about his prospects and given his extraordinary pace and control, we should be too. Best of luck Ryodinho.
We should move walcott on if a top quality winger is available in the summer. Diaby out. A striker with better dribbling skills than hfb should be a priority. Would’nt mind a new gk as well.
For the right wing role, I am working on obtaining a free transfer for Eden Hazard. I will replace Diaby with Frimpong when he returns from loan, it will be like a new signing. For the striker role, I am willing to break the bank this summer and spend all of my £70 million on (purchasing and paying the wages of) Emile Heskey, so see you tomorrow!
The lad more than showed what he could do on the loan spell in Holland. Should have given him more time there Wenger
I wanted to see how he would cope with English football, as opposed to other leagues. As you know, the premier league is a top, top, top quality league, and a player needs to prove himself here in England before he can be a part of Arsenal. I am not in this job for 16 years and seeing how players perform in Holland, because what is important is how they perform in England. Anyay, I believe we have enough quality, spirit and mental strength without Miyaichi, so see you tomorrow!
I love you Arsene but you’re an annoyingly stubborn twat 🙂
Lols!
I am not as stubborn as my coat zip.
Wish you(Miyaichi) a speedy recovery.
And @ Blogs signing those Robots won’t be a bad idea, at least Cunt Terry will get some robo kicks in his balls! Hahahhaha
