Arsenal’s under-19s sealed a very impressive win in Milan this afternoon overcoming reigning NextGen Series champions Inter to seal a quarterfinal showdown with CSKA Moscow.
Nico Yennaris, our Chinese-Cypriot hybrid extraordinaire, got the winner on 69 minutes driving home a terrific 25-yard effort following a determined run from the centre circle.
It was a lovely effort from Terry Burton’s captain, reminiscent of Cesc Fabregas’ goal at the San Siro a few years back, although Arseblog News was slightly perturbed to see him pull out Gareth Bale’s silly little hand celebration as he was mobbed by his teammates.
Ah well, we’ll let you off this time Nico…
You can see the goal and gawp at the terrible pitch here.
GOOD NEWS!!!!
shooting from outside the box? what kind of sorcery is this!!
I have literally no idea..
It’s one of those situations where a player gets the ball just outside the area then….then what? 🙁
I’ve always wondered what would have happen if a footballer made that heart jesters with their fingers 10 or 15 years ago? I’m sure all of his team mates would have had a word or too.
Credit to the lads, it was a tough game and the pitch didn’t make things easier.
Watched the 2nd half via youtube stream. I thought the backline was pretty solid barring a few turnovers. Having a number of defensive prospects coming through the academy is always welcome. Great effort overall. Well done!
So humans can make this sign too, I thought you needed paws to make it.
Its a love heart blogs.. not Gareth Bales family crest.
This is why we lost to Tottenham everyone has to watch this.

Lies! we all know gervinho was the reason we lost
…….
And kroenke!
Two stupid fuckups
I’m sure Bale stole the sign from Yennaris, as it is something you see people his age do so the shame is all (and still) on Bale.
Well done to the boys for the win. Wasn’t Jack Wilshere’s group the last to win a youth cup? If these guys win it it could be good omen!
The first person I’ve seen do it was Arshavin
sum of our young boys r much much better dan our 1st team men…wanna see sum of them in 1st team nxt season…
If they’re so much better then they would be in it wouldn’t they.
I wish these games aired in my country. I love watching arsenal play. First team, ladies, kids, all of them!
this match was live on youtube :^^
What channel do they play on?
All the games are Eurosport, I think, and there’s a link to the live stream on the NextGen official site, though it didn’t work when I tried it yesterday. Best thing is to look on twitter about half an hour before kick-off. I watched on Inter’s TV, understandably exceedingly biased, as Arsenal – bit shabby, don’t you think? – didn’t even provide a text commentary.
Saw the whole match..Whole back 5 were terrific.Maybe our senior players could take a few tips from them.Bellerin is definitely a very exciting prospect. Was impressed with Illev and Hajrovic too
Quite agree about the amazing back five. Us defending – ‘furioso, volcanico’, as the Italian commentator put it – I thought I was hallucinating at first. Hope they do it again against CSKA who are apparently favourites to win the thing, having topped a very tough group beating Chelsea and Ajax. Also hope we can play this tie at the Emirates rather than Barnet – and let us in free like they used to for the youth cup semis and final. The kids deserve a decent pitch after yesterday’s nightmare, and our short-passing, tricksy midfield needs one to do its… Read more »
If I remember right it was Alex Pato that started the heart gesture.
Something good. At last
Shrewsbury Town striker Marvin Morgan celebrates like that too according to me brother (he’s into watching giants hoof the ball to each other and all that guff) and has done for plenty of years. Not just wide mouthed chimps that do it, or even who started it.
Start these guys in the Champions League, what is there to lose.
The match actually.
What, the one where we need to win by a 3 goal margin in order to progress?
Didn’t we score 3 past Milan last season after we were seemingly going out anyway? Football has a weird way of making fun things happen
Looks like this is our last chance for a trophy. Bring it home, Nico!
Yennaris is sure to be pleased like us – a player & a fan. Hope he is able to make the step-up.
Hajrovic contract expires in summer, is he worth a new deal as never seen him
Play? Is Yennaris a 1st team squad player?
Finally some good news from AFC
I watched Hajrovic playing for Barnet (my brother has a season ticket), a while back and he has good composure on the ball as well as good strength. I remember thinking that he needed to work on his timing but apart from that he was great, an exciting prospect.

Yes, a very impressive result, but could they do it on a wet Wednesday night in Stoke? No. Because Stoke don’t have an U19s team, their players are born fully formed in mass hatcheries.

I prefer Angha’s effort there. The good ol’ thumbs up. That’s what I would do if I scored. Thumbs up and a cheesy knowing grin.
I dont know why a footballer hasnt claimed the “thumbs up”. Perhaps it’s too vague. Is he thumbing the assist, the crowd, the boss, himself, the physio for getting him fit again, his best matee in the bench, his family…
You see the problems we would have. It would be pandemonium.

Wouldn’t care who started the celebration first.sure its not bale. For bale’s: it was monkey see monkey do
