Miyaichi set for Wigan return

Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Ryo Miyaichi could feature for Wigan this weekend as his side take on Everton in the FA Cup.

The Japanese winger has barely featured for the Latics since moving to the DW Stadium on loan at the beginning of the season with a succession of injuries restricting him to one start in the Capital One Cup game and four sub appearances in the Premier League.

A groin injury sustained in November came as the first blow while a niggly ankle problem has also taken its toll on the 20-year-old’s fitness.

Having survived a 45-minute run out for Wigan’s under-21 clash with Nottingham on Monday, Martinez spoke with cautious optimism about a possible first team return.

“We need to be careful we don’t push him too early,” said Martinez.

“But I do see his ankle is fully recovered, and it is just a matter of introducing him slowly and seeing how he responds to his individual programme.”

Arseblog News can’t help but think that Arsene may have to farm Ryo out on loan again next season given the way things have panned out for the lad this term; he’s hardly garnered the experience we were hoping for so far.

On the plus side with a tour of the Far East on the horizon, including a game in his homeland, there’s a good chance he’ll again be heavily involved in the first team’s pre-season preparations.

In no way is this because he drives Japanese schoolgirls batsh*t crazy…don’t be so cynical.

Genuinely forgot he existed.

Hassan

Meh, he’s 21 now so next season will probably be his last chance to prove himself otherwise he could be sold. Shame, i really rate the lad. Always annoying when injuries get in the way

Benis

How can you really rate the lad? Based on what? His looks? Or the hype?

Hassan

Based off watching him for Feyenoord & Bolton you melt

daniel

Based on his form in Dutch league in time past! He is a real talent

Benis

Oh I see, you were all following the Dutch league 2 years ago. I did not. My mistake.

orion

I think you’ve spelled your name wrong. It should probably begin with a ‘P’ instead of a ‘B’

dutchgunner

what’s the point in loaning someone to a team who does not play him?

dutchgunner

mea culpa

Lec-2

Well, what happened before he got injured? 🙂

He was not being picked, that`s what. He was being played sporadically for a few minutes as a substitute then most of the time he wasn`t included in the team sheet. I take dutchgunner`s point, there was no point in moving him from a place he was developing well – from Feyenoord.

Lec

Even the title itself seems sufficient enough to tell you he’s been out injured.

You are just dumb, sorry.

Parisian Weetabix

When was the last time one of our best young players didn’t get such severe injuries that they almost died.

the outside of rosicky's boot

It’s a proud Gunner tradition; a right of passage if you will.

the outside of rosicky's boot

wait that’s rite, right?

Anon

It’s wrong.

Dr Baptiste

I don’t know. Did you write rite or right?

Parisian Weetabix

Are you alright?

Judgement day (once more)

Jesus..

gooner odst

You wrote right wrong…

Dr Baptiste

Did he write right wrong or was he wrong to write rite…. I’ll stop now

Lomas

I can’t help but think we should have let him have another year or two at fey

Mani Kashmiri (@kanimay)

Couldn’t, or he’d lose that ever-so-vital homegrown status.

Kid can’t get enough of ’em.

Lomas

I can’t help but think we should have let him have another year or two at Feyenoord. He was playing every week at a good standard being taught good football, he loved it and they loved him. Think he has the talent but fear having hardly played in 18 months (injuries don’t help) will be very costly at a key age for development. Hope he makes it as he is an exiting player, but think injuries and poor management will mean he’ll fade away like many others before

nigelwinterburn

Hope not, he’s super cute

daniel

Poor management?, how come. Arsenal got him loans in the top division. What more could you want for your development than to learn from good players, not average ones.

Miranda

I think he had to go to an English club or he’d lose his home-grown status. Ajax wanted him and they’d have been perfect if it wasn’t for the tedious regulations.

Arsene's Nose

I’ve often wondered why premier league and other elite footballers suffer from so many ‘non-contact’ injuries. One theory which has been explained to me is that their bodies are so finely tuned in order to perform at 100% when fit that a slight ‘twang’ can have a significant impact. If true I can’t help but think that having them function at say 90% efficiency and play say 90% of games (rather than <30% because of injury) would be a far better overall approach.

David's semen

Some REAL training rather than pissing around in a gym, jogging backwards round the field or doing keepie uppies might help as well.

Lomas

Poor management because we’ve been sending him to clubs where he doesn’t play. Yes he’s had injuries but in November in which he had one appearance to his name in the league cup. He wasn’t even making the bench, better to be at a club that values him and will use him as a first team regular

lasagna

Damn,that expression!
Like he is going to strangle a puppy
Anyway, really wanted him to be a regular at arsenal, would have provided more fans from asia.
You know, so that we can fatten our ‘mythical warchest’

Omasi WC

Get well soon Miyachi.

Raghib

He’s faster than Theo, if his sprint in FIFA is anything to go by.

Ifaz

He actually is. The pre-season before the last one, he gave Walnut a run for his money in training. There’s a video of it in youtube, I think.

And that one time when he played against Chelsea, I remember Ashley Cole leaving the pitch after 90 minutes with a new arsehole.

His name is Ryo and he dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when he shines he really shows you that he can
Oh Ryo, Ryo dance across the Ryo Grande

cannonsong

His name is Ryo and he came here from Japaaaan

hope to sing this after he scores one day

nick

John Terry is a cunt!

not that handsome french bloke

not really relevant… but you are most certainly not wrong!!

ShahiGooner

He has to feature in my opinion, he’s a genuine talent and Martinez is smart enough to know that, shame he’s been injured though.

Bob

For those that are saying that these injuries might have caused the end of his time at the club I say “pshaw!”. He is still very young, and has more to his game than pace. He has great skills and can pick out a pass well, and his crossing is delicious at times. His problem is his physicality for this league, but if anything he will fill out a tad more as be reaches 21/22 so it might help him (a bit like Theo has done in his upper body). And not to mention he is as quick as Theo… Read more »

Fatfatbuddha

If FIFA 2012 were anything to go by, Ox , Theo and Ryon were the ultimate online front three

Stephen

If indeed

HungarianGooner

I hope he will be OK and I’m looking forward to see him in the starting XI next season.

Great news, he has been a very exciting talent, hopefully he finds his touch very soon.

Sam

well he came on for Wigan in their 3-0 thumping of Everton. Only saw him once, but he beat the FB and put in a decent cross.
Plus he would certainly drive not just Japanese teens bats*it crazy, as he’s super cute. Even if he looks about 12.
Hope he gets a chance, would be great to have a proper winger in the squad.

Andy Mack

He tracked Baines really well. Worked hard and came off injured.
