Arsenal’s penultimate game of the season against Wigan Athletic has been moved to Tuesday, 14 May after the Latics secured a place in the FA Cup Final.
Roberto Martinez’s side were due to visit the Emirates two days before (on Sunday) but will now head to Wembley instead as they look to win their first ever (proper) domestic trophy.
Despite being guaranteed Europa League football with their victory over Millwall, Wigan are still facing their annual tussle with relegation and have something of a fixture pile up as the season reaches its climax. Indeed, the match against the Gunners, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 1, is set to be their fourth in a 10 day period.
Let’s hope they’re knackered…
Remaining Arsenal fixtures
(H) vs Everton / Tue 16th Apr 19.45
(A) vs Fulham / Sat 20th Apr 15.00
(H) vs Manchester United / Sun 28th Apr 16.00
(A) vs QPR / Sat 4th May 17.30
(H) vs Wigan Athletic / Tue 14th May 19.45
(A) vs Newcastle United / Sun 19th May 16.00
When I booked these tickets I ignored the warning that it could be postponed if Wigan reach the FA Cup final. That seemed laughable. Joke’s on me I guess.
The joke’s on arsenal for not reaching the final.
Good news for us. They have almost no squad depth (…like us…)
guess you haven’t heard of all those nice problems we have trying to figure out who to play these days
Those remaining fixtures don’t look too bad.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
It could be all worth it if they do one over citeh in the F.A final, then we in turn take all their post f.a cup victory celebrations away with a can of whoop arse 2 days later….
Let’s hope they have survival secured. Let’s also hope they win, so they can get drunk. Never right Wigan off haha. Qpr and Newcastle are both tricky fixtures too
7 wins out of 7. Standard.
Keep calm, Wigan win this one.
So soon… I can’t believe how quickly the season will be over 🙁
Until then though, it’s all about cheering the Gunners into keeping third!
Keeping third, and GUNNING for 2nd!!! We can do it COYG!
Gotta negotiate an evening off work now. Best start arse kissing my boss tomorrow.
Not a bad run in at all. Plenty of rest between games!
Our recent record is not that great against wigan. I think we lost at home against them last season. I don’t like them as they didn’t give Miyaichi enough chances (still have high hopes from him).
It’s hard to give somebody a chance when he’s in the hospital.
Our fixtures are HAHAHA – coincidental?
Our fixtures are funny?
Not coincidental. The FA do try to alternate home and away fixtures when they set the fixture list. Where you get successive home or away fixtures is the result of compromise.

Let’s hope that the third relegation spot is secured as soon as possible, hopefully by Pulis & The Orcs ! Although, I will happily see The Toon down by the time we play either Wigan or Newcastle, instead. Still Wigan might not be as straight forward as some might think, even with their FA Cup exertions. Fingers crossed we will have consolidated our top 4 spot already but ‘ one game at a time ‘ is the tried and tested mantra. I know I wrote something similar on another thread but this is certainly a more appropriate place to put… Read more »
As we all saw in the game against Norwich you will be doing your self a favor by not keeping possession against such teams. Every time you win the ball you should launch a very direct counter attack by invading their box before they get to form their Catenaccio (Italian defending style) and defend deep zonal when you lose the ball. Kind of like what Germany did against argentina in the 2010 world cup (they won 4-0 that day) it will work against Everton because they defend deep by parking the bus waiting for ramsay or vermaelen to fuck up… Read more »
lets hope by the time we play them wigan are safe and stoke are relegated!
Keep an eye on Mccarthy. I think we’re getting him this summer. Decent lad. He’s English, plays in front of back four and need be as a CB. Good passer of the ball, good with retaining it. Very good positional sense. In all he’s Arteta 2.0.
He’s Scottish and declared for Ireland (grandfather). You might be thinking British, instead.
Smart kid, actually. He had offers to go to Liverpool and turned them down to go to Wigan because he knew he’d get more playing time and probably wouldn’t get anything at Liverpool.
If Giroud continues to throw himself at aerial balls even when at times the probability of him getting to it is 0. He might break something, we don’t want him to break something. Calm down Giroud.
“He might break something..”
Well, as long as it’s a goalkeeper or defender, carry on Giroud.

Really hope citeh drop some points, otherwise utd will need a point against us to win the league, don’t want that
Right now I’ll back us to win against MU any day.
For once we have a relatively fit squad. Everyone’s fighting for places. Our bench has impact players chomping to get on.
As for MU. Do you really think they’d prefer to clinch the title away from home?
Ironical or not. They’re going to make a right royal mess of things when they play us on the 28th. Usually, it’s a close scoreline … Not this time. This time they’re going to get embarrassed.
playing the fa cup final before the end of the league season – what a sorry state of affairs. bloody disgrace, that.
much as i dislike wigan for being a rugby league interloper in the world of real football, no team should be effectively railroaded into gifting their opponents the FA Cup trophy because the financial imperative demands they concentrate on league survival. playing the final after the season would avoid that.
not good, but par for the course in a game run by corporate greed. bah!
