Arsene Wenger believes his Arsenal team should have taken three points against Everton this evening, but is satisfied his team is in good shape for the run in.
Speaking after the game, the boss said, “We should have won the game but it keeps us still in a strong position in the race for the top four. Basically, the game was very intense physically.
“I felt that in the first half the referee didn’t deal at all well with the intimidating physical challenges, but that we responded well to the physicality. We had fantastic commitment. It was detrimental a little to the fluency of our game, but we kept going and had good concentration.
“The regret I have is that we had the chances to score. Maybe we used power instead of technique too much in our finishing. And, the second regret I have is that with the number of set-pieces we had at home, there has to be a goal.”
Scoring from corners and free kicks has long been an issue, and although Darron Gibson should have seen red in the first half, Wenger refused to blame the referee for the result.
“We had the chances to win the game. We can only look at ourselves and next time try and take our chances. We are on a very strong run with a fantastic run so we do not want to complain too much about what didn’t go for us.
“Let’s look at ourselves, come back in the next game and win it.”
Watch out Fulham, we hope.
We never score from corners.. There was a graphic shown on MOTD.. We score lowest percentage of our goals from corner.. Anyway, I think we will be alright for top 4.
Yeah, we are absolutely awful at set pieces. Guys like Mertesacker and Koscielny could each be banging in 5+ goals a season if we worked on them better. Mertesacker in particular scored quite a few when he played for Bremen, but has only scored twice in two seasons at Arsenal, mostly because our set piece deliveries suck (they were worse last season – he didn’t score any). We’re wasting their aerial abilities.
Yeah Wenger but Giroud is a fucking Donkey
Hung like a fucking donkey more like.
That’s too harsh. He does his best. It’s just he plays like a £10m stricker. Hate judging players by their tags but a world class stricker never comes cheap. We sold one recently so we should know.
He does his best but he’s looked just an ok stricker at best all season.
plus we’ll have Poldi Like A New Stricker Signing next season. With Theo, Gervas can play there too…
… *wants to sob but we still have third to fight for*
How much did the Dutch Skunk cost?
6 years of development
Maybe if we stopped signing strickers (streakers?) and signed strikers instead, things would improve.
That’s what you meant, right?
Giroud’s streakinig? Where? Quick, tell me o_O
Legend has it that we once had the privillege to cheer for the greatest stricker ever lived… But destiny is the mother of all bitches, has taken him away from us. And arsenal is never thw same again….
Oh wait, that was a stripper, not a stricker..
someone just got pissed about a fucking donkey.
oh nevermind,
better than we loose anyway
🙁
Donkey is a bit harsh.
But he definitely lacks the guile and finesse that are the BASIC requirement to carry the strikers role for Arsenal. There were certainly 3 or 4 chances that any one of our previous 3 strikers would have buried.
Alll he had to do was touch the ball, instead her tried to blast it, and he put the fucking thing wide…and how many crosses did we see last night bouncing harmlessly into an EMPTY FUCKING BOX Olivier.
I mean WHAT THE FUCK man…?
This is the second game in a row we’ve looked like an Arsenal team without Rosicky.
Maybe he’s not fully over his tight thigh strain but we need his brain and pace to start up those counter attacks.
Just buy a fuckin’ decent centre forward Wenger, you knob….then you wont have to moan about poor finishing costing us points (again). Muppet.
yeah, cause skunks and torreses have fantastic finishing.
Bit of a simplistic way to think about it. It wasn’t just Giroud who had a terrible day infront of goal so you can’t solely blame Giroud. You also have to give credit to the great work defensively of Everton. The two best chances Arsenal had (both falling to Giroud after good runs by Walcott & Oxlade) were great chances, but both times Giroud was under immense pressure by multiple Everton players. While you’d expect an EPL quality Striker to put the ball into the back of the net in those situations, you still have to give credit to Evertons… Read more »
Considering how intense the game was, I think that is one point gained as opposed to two dropped. Just that final 3rd that let us down today. Onwards to Fulham!
It’s definitely worth splashing out for a top end striker next season. One that is more direct, skilled enough to fashion his own chances and a good finisher. Everything else seems to be falling into place, we just need a spearhead to bury those crucial chances
Wilshere try and burst ahead with intent and not blindly into an a tackle (that leaves you stunned on the floor) which btw you could have avoided with a simple pass. You’re a force alright, but not the only force! Cazorla, ramsey, chambo are all there mate. Thanks.
Some people throwing their toys out again….Everton not exactly Reading. They are a top side. We could have won but didn’t. Everton could also say the same. They took 4 points off Spurs.
Our boys stuck at it and battled hard. Bring on Fulham.
Yeah and they also took 4 points off arsenal. By your logic arsenal is on par with filthy sp*r? I beg to differ coz we are way better than scum and should have won this one were it not for some poor finishing, poor decision making and well….an average centre half. We did not play badly, have you seen anyone say that? We just didn’t put away our chances (clear cut too) something a team with a top notch cf would have easily done. We should have scored, perhaps not won in the end. But how a goal did not… Read more »
Everton only took 2 points off of us. Two draws. Not 4. Do the math.
lol….Brilliant math,sir.
This made me laugh. You are both right in a weird way.
What you are saying is that Everton had two draws against Arsenal, and therefore this season from the games against Arsenal, Everton gained a total of two points.
However in common usage “taken points off” can be translated as meaning “points dropped”. So from the potential 6 points that Arsenal could have gained from Everton this season, Arsenal only gained 2 (two draws), so they dropped 4 points to Everton this season, in other words, Everton took “4 points off Arsenal” through the 2 draws.
Cazorla has magic feet btw. At one particular instance he almost tore 5 evertonians new arseholes, they probably would also have had to pick their nuts off the pitch thereafter. Wow just wow!
Rozza is not obviously not 100% I see no other rational reason why he wasn’t used. Shouldn’t anyway have played a part in that rugby match!!
He reminds me of messi (without the HGH) who though was not 100% fit still had a place on the bench for psg, only he came on and changed the game. We should have done the same perhaps?….naaah I trust wenger with this one given past injury misfortunes. He should be alright for fulham I should think.
I have no idea what the rules are these days…. if Gibson body charge isn’t a yellow – I have no fucking idea what is.
these pricks of ref’s need to explain these decisions as it makes a fucking mockery of the game.
Everyone blaming giroud. And gooner in particular rates gervinho higher. Shame. Has anyone looked at the stats. Arsenal has as many goals ans man u. But have concededed wayyyyyyy moee. Maybe offence is not much the problem as its out defence. Need to get a top dm.
can’t help it mate, our def was fine today, but our lack of clinical finishing cost us today. Defensive organization proved that buying is not the solution, but coordination is. Now that our defense is sorted, maybe we can do the same with offense – calling for selling, buying, when we cannot do any trades right now is not necessarily helping… do agree that we need another CF that can change things up though…
Giroud has 17 goals. A tidy amount by any means. Giroud has played 32 games give or take. In say each of those game an average 4 chances have been presented to him. Do the match. Yes he has scored 17 goals but if you do the math you’ll find he should have been doing way better than 17. not a bad c.f just not clinical enough and a striker with that in his locker gets you maximum points.
@fofo: Let’s see.
Manure goals conceded: 33 in 32 games. Arsenal goals conceded: 35 in 33 games.
Not sure how you came up with “Has anyone looked at the stats. Arsenal has as many goals ans man u. But have concededed wayyyyyyy moee.”
We dont need a dm. We need to cut out induvidual errors.
Well, maybe we do actually. But we could also do with cutting out the errors. I don’t think i have a point.
Corners against Everton seemed a waste of time. What about a short corner or something different. It is all so predictable. Jack was off the pace again, though better than at Norwich, and the ref let a number of reducers fly before booking anyone. Still we didn’t do much for 20 minutes, they pressed in the midfield and won the ball, though apart from an early chance they didn’t do much. I can see not playing Rosicky in a game like this, but Jack was not the answer. Poldi linked up well when he came on, and Giroud–who we have… Read more »
If we truely want to be competitive next season, we really need a clinical finisher. If we had one this season, who knows where we might of ended.
That is no disrespect to Giroud. He is a fantastic, hard working player who i think will always chip in with about 10 goals a season. But we just need that player with a touch more pace and finishing. However, his hold up play i thought was tremendous tonight and you cant fault him for that.
Giroud is used as a pivot between the other attackers.. it’s not really that often he gets as good service as he gives… but he should have scored today. Maybe 2x. Against teams like Everton, we need him to be clinical because Walcott got flown like a bag in the wind against their physical defending. Pretty much everyone, except Giroud. His physique is a powerful weapon…
Agreed. We definitely need a Giroud type striker on the books. We’ve tried a few times but ended up with donkeys like bendtner, chamakh and adebuyswhores. So i am really glad we’ve finally got a target man who can produce the goods and i think hes done well for his first season here. But that being said, it’s no point having a good target man when i would arguably say we are the worst team in the league at set pieces. We really should be scoring more from corners and free kicks with the likes of SACK, Giroud, Kos and… Read more »
We need someone to attack the balls with the efficiency and desire of Elton John.
A ref that refs like cunt should be slapped by the rough hands of j.t, head butted into oblivion by gervinho, crushed by shawcross, kung fu kicked by cantona. Tbh though, have the official been pissing you of lately. Foy, dean, webb, the norwich one, todays. Ah!
“Up north we do that quite often. That’s actually allowed in football.” – David Moyes, on his teams rough ‘tackling.’
I’ve always had a soft spot for Moyes and his plucky Everton teams. I even thought he’d be a good manager for the one of the top four. But this comment brought into focus that he’s a bit of an ass, isn’t he.
Turning into a right Pubis these days.
He said that?! You can say am a former admirer then! In the north. Clogger.
Everton’s trophy room has been burgled…….Police are looking for a man with a Blue Carpet!!
I think that Giroud is a player who needs to play with a natural finisher, someone who can put it into the back of the net after he does the hard work. His hold up play is fantastic, likes setting up teammates and he gets in good positions. Unfortunately, as we saw today, his finishing lets him down. Perhaps playing him and Podolski as a front two may work?
Everton are gone now and probably won’teven make the Europa, shame coz they deserve a place there. Losing RVP has been costly. But he wanted a Premiership medal and new he had to leave Arsenal to get one. Same with Nasri who will no doubt pick up an FA cup medal to go with his Premiership medal from last year. Fabregas and Song will win La Liga medals this season as well. They are all on much improved coin too. The positive this season is that we have no one who anyone really wants so we should basically have the… Read more »
Does Song leave the bench enough to qualify for the medal?
It has been widely reported that Fabregas claims he earns less at Barca than Arsenal paid him. Just thought I’d mention that.
Thoughts. Even if Gibson had been sent off it would have guaranteed us nothing. The win (still) would have to have been hard won. There was nothing wrong in being physical for a change. As ‘physical’ performances go it was a good one – a really, really good one. It was also nice to see just how terrier-like Cazorla can be. This is Giroud’s first season here. He’s already so much better than he was first thing. Granted, he’s not got the finishing technique of an RVP, but then our ex-striker is so out-of-form he does a King Charles spaniel… Read more »
Not blaming Giroud as you put it. Just saying his finishing all season has been at that level. He’s cost us games just like any other players have (that miss at the bridge as an example) but credit to him for making the runs to get in such good positions. It’s a skill too and that he has. Plus, he’s scored around the same number of goals as shrek, kun, dzeko. But some of those misses have cost us games. Didn’t say i rate Gervas more but then if it were him missing then the whole mob would be out.… Read more »

Giroud: under heavy-pressure during each of his 4 or 5 chances, but can’t help wondering whether a “world-class” striker could have buried at least one of those. Furthermore, I do not recall him successfully laying-off a long-ball from Scheczny to a teammate even once. His height and heading-capability were the marginal difference for AW choosing Giroud over Poldi. Poldi: think the timing of the “Poldi as Central Striker” story and last night’s reminder that Giroud’s finishing capability is “not yet world-class” are not a coincidence. Would love to see Poldi in central-striker role before the season ends. The Ox: my… Read more »
‘Furthermore, I do not recall him successfully laying-off a long-ball from Scheczny to a teammate even once’
Saturday against Norwich, for Walcott to run through and set up Podolski to score.
I think we will nick 4th with 70 points.
Does anyone know if it is only a first yellow card for a cynical foul to stop a counter attack or can it be for a second leading to a red? If the latter then I agree that Gibson should have been sent off. I also agree that we should have won; they offered nothing, they didn’t come to the Emirates to play football anyway. I don’t think they even tested Sczez, and we had a number of chances you would have put money on resulting in a goal. Does anyone else think they might have come here for a… Read more »
A yellow card is a yellow card; no matter the incident. Gibson knew he was on a yellow and yet he still fouled Walcott. Should have seen red and there’d have been no complaints.
Wenger got lucky with decisions against Norwich, the linesman was either on a brown envelope or incompetent, the corner that led to the first goal was never a corner,Giroud’s goal was scored by Bassong and the third goal was off-side!
Wenger can’t expect the match officialsto keep getting himout of jail.
At leat the old deluded fool loooked a bit smarter last night in his whistle instead of that sleeping bag that he usually wears while fiddling about with its zip.
