Arsene Wenger has paid tribute to his players after their end of season push secured Champions League football for next season.
Since losing to Sp*rs, Arsenal took 26 from 30 points available in the Premier League, and Wenger was keen to credit his squad for their form at a time when nobody gave them much chance of finishing in the top four.
“In the last three months, I believe we have been remarkably consistent,” he said.
“We won every away game so it’s a good springboard for next season, to transfer that belief into the start of next season.
“They’ve shown a combination of quality but attitude as well. In the modern day, I always admire the way they behaved and their focus every day in training. Sometimes as a manager you feel as well that when a group is so dedicated and face so many storms.
“We had some big lows with Bradford, with Blackburn and with Bayern at home. You could never see that the players could dismantle or that the group was not united. That’s not easy in the modern game.”
And the Arsenal manager admitted it was a relief to finally ensure a top four finish at the expense of Sp*rs.
“We knew before the game that we had to win and any other result could kick us out of the potential Champions League group stage. We were right because T*ttenham and Chelsea won and we had the big disadvantage to play away from home.
“I’m happy as well because the exceptional attitude and determination of this group of players has been rewarded. They continued to believe when we were seven points behind T*ttenham in mid-March.”
While 4th is clearly not the target for any season, and we all know that things have to improve, let’s just enjoy this today.
“Negative spiral”, indeed.
happy st totteringham’s day
My name, that is all. Oh, and up THE ARSENAL!
kos does it again… another top 4 goal, remember west brom last year? just love him!
i hope for your sake, that you are a girl;
but i know what you mean……. guy’s ben great….. it’s just worth watching the look on his face when he is playing………. scares half the strikers off just by that, i expect……….
on another note, that’s the the second time Koscielnesacker combined to create a goal……….. the pair’s been the hgh point in these last few months……. vermaelen is gonna have to work hard to regain his place….
Oi spud! Kiss my ass….
Now if we could only start next season the way we’ve finished this one!
Not just start… Play the whole of next season as we ended up this one . COYG!!
Yep, Go unbeaten as long as possible. That’s how the invincibles did it.
The goal celebration koscienly did was superb. He’s been a class act since bayern and today he was the difference in both attack and defence! Brilliant bosscienly, hopefully we start the next season like we finished this one and see where we stand around December there. I bet we will be like the man koscienly is. Top!
Sp*rs slipped on a banana skin. Bale was the star man today! Cheetah scored the most meaningless goal of the meaningless goals of all time. What a beauty.
Lol – indeed though I think I am going to start a happy st. Arse day as the day it is confirmed you cannot finish any higer than 4th and have not won a trophy.
This is as close to Chelsea as you are going to get for the foreseeable with Jose back we are years ahead – the two Manchester clubs are also miles ahead so you and spuds can now fight over the qualifying place provided Liverpool dont push you two numpties further down.
Today reminded me of two tramps fighting over a cigarette butt!!
You dick head, you guys injected millions to become stronger this season, and yet, I am certain, you were almost shitting yourself when Koscielny scored for us. You needed Rafa to save your sorry ass, so please do us all a favor and fuck off from here you troll.
Ah come on calm down, smile and enjoy your successful season -dont let me poking fun ruin your achievement.
Chelsea have the shittest fans by country miles. You boo your own manager, your owner sells and sacks legends, and your players kick ball boys or cheat on the team mates with their WAGs. As much as I hate spurs, at least they’re loyal to their shit club.
We know what you are, racists of Europe, we know what you are.
Agunner how did you forget to mention John Terry!?
We were five points behind City. Not exactly what I’d call being “miles ahead.”
Cunt fuck off to your sugar daddy and prey he does not come to the same end that other Russians who robbed the Russian people blind.
Szczesny, “Spurs do not have enough quality to finish in the top four this season”. True
As I said, Tramps and Cigarette butt – and you lot have quality by finishing a point above that lot – the irony certainly is not lost – at least we have the Europa League trophy to show for our season and as mark of many Thurs night games to explain why we were not even further ahead of you – seriously I laugh at you lot celebrating beating Spuds to 4th – high ambitions – I reckon you dont get within 15pts of us next season though you are welcome to come along to the bridge to see the… Read more »
Erm, I don’t think you have any right as some plastic Chavski fan to boast 1 trophy when at the start of the season were competing for 8 on an arsenal blog. Well done, go enjoy you soulless club, no talent coming through, terrible greedy classless fans, f off.
big fat g …
what kind of horrible, bitter person comes over here to post pointless things like that?
honestly, ‘mate’, look in the mirror, it’s a bit pathetic isn’t it?
haha. That Mourinho fella is not what he used to be my friend. I’m afraid he’s transformed to a grumpy, paranoid, and self-satisfied old man. You certainly ain’t winning the premier league next year. Nothing wrong with hoping, though, but I don’t see why you can’t do it in a civilised manner without belittling others in their own blog.
Has talking outta your arse become a thing?
Reminder that you won a competition we were too good to play in.
And to you sir! All those twats earlier in the season saying sp*rs are better should remember this: what was widely described as our worst season under Wenger is still better than sp*rs BEST EVER season.
Great! couldn’t describe it better myself. Silverware coming our way next year. COYG!
hahahaha LOLttenhahaham.. we r in continental comptitn n they r in continental drift… hohohoho..cnt stop laughing..
With all these sour grapes everywhere its easy to understand why those players got food poisoning a few years back.
COYG
Time for a Wenger dance!
http://fuldans.se/?v=tpoljgeecn
Is it bad that I just spent a full 10 minutes on that site. Eh, who cares? As long as we’re above the Spuds.
If sp*rs didn’t beat us this time I don’t think they ever will. Especially when they has their special one on board. “bale”. when he leaves they’ll wander in midtable mediocrity for long their chicken heads will spin. We’re only getting better and we’re only getting started….
1 nil to the Arsenal and bye bye Bale FC
It’s crazy how much of a one-man team they are. At least last season someone had to pass to RVP for him to score, Spurs seem to be content with relying on Bale winning the ball, running with it and scoring all by himself. Midtable at best without him.
And thanks for the Adebayor. He kept them in the race with those goals so helped them to fall:
Aufstieg und Niedergang der spr*sischen welt or something like that.
@Gervinho fan: I’ve been saying that all season! 24 points he’s rescued them this season. It has to be the most boring style of play ever; the Sp*rs “Give it to Bale and watch” approach. I will admit that he’s a great player, and clearly he will win football matches, but I swear damn he does it in the most boring, self-centred, classless way possible. He’s not a team player.
What’s the point of being a team player when you’re a cunt surrounded by a bunch of talentless cunts?
As Gary Neville said, without him they wouldn’t finish in the top 8.
totallyyy agreed!!!!
spuds = useless
Stick that up your hole AVB
Gary Neville nailed it in his comments about what we’ve achieved and where we need to go. Why am I starting to fall in love with this man? I used to hate him!
Totally agree, the man talks such sense. And to say we have spent just 9million net in ten years brings arsenes achievements into perspective. Koscielny performance was up there with beckhams for England against Greece all those years ago. Well done to all the team though, they have shown such great character and all arsenal fans have every right to be proud. Ok it’s fourth and not a trophy but for once I do believe that we will buy the right players to move us forward and we will compete next season. The arsenal fans deserve it and now these… Read more »
Well said mate.
Ditto
Spot on! Amazing that you also remeber that Beckham game against Greece, that was some performance.
I am a born pessimist but feel optimistic that we have a solid base in terms id squad and the financial resource and the willpower to have basically a good summer in terms of new signings. I still trust arsene to spend wisely…
Since Campbell left (the 1st time) we’ve always missed a cb of his caliber, I’ve no doubt we found in koscielny
Edit : we found ONE in… i’m at it again..
Who would have thought the biggest bellend to kick a ball would actually turn out the best pundit in mediaville!!
Kosc is fast becoming the best in the premiership, and his partnership with BFG is making mugs of those who said the big man was finished. So looking forward to next season!!!
okay, 2nd biggest bellend to kick a ball, JT wins hands down, sorry!
No, JT is a cunt, not a bellend.
It’s easy speak the truth.
“And to say we have spent just 9million net in ten years brings arsenes achievements into perspective.” Quite. And if you look from 2006 onwards, it’s actually been more extraordinary than that. In the past seven years, Arsenal has made a £40 million net profit on transfers (which, as I’ve mentioned before, seems to be a result of compensating for flat commercial revenue and rising wages). Only three other current EPL clubs have asked their managers to make a profit on transfers over that time: Wigan, Reading and Newcastle. Two of them won’t be in the EPL next season and… Read more »
For a guy who tried to kill Harry Potter, you’re talking a lot of sense.
Yeah very much so, I think we’re all so used to pundits/media types downplaying any achievement for us and being so reluctant to offer any praise that its actually quite a shock to see someone unconnected with the club give geniune credit where its due. We hear the same old tired cliches and stereotypes every week particularly in regards to Arsene that I think even a lot of Arsenal fans don’t truly appreciate quite what he’s achieved in recent years. Particularly the last 2 seasons – losing our captain and most influencial player 2 years in a row, and then… Read more »
Happy st.Totteringham’s day. Long live the little boss!
Mmm.. spud tears. So tasty.
Did Boss credit Kos kos he is the Boss too.
Very good, Arsene.
Now buy Laurent and Per a drink on our behalf, yes?
Something with top, top quality. Like a 20 year old malt.
Royal Salute?
That’s koscienly emerging with the STOP sign as the tottenham bus driven by gareth bale: (with no one else in it ofcourse).
MOTM for koscienly and possibly president.
Thank you Mr Arsene Wenger
Many of us haven’t said so that often this season.
Now we can rebuild and chase the BPL
I personally can wait a little longer for Europe – just.
Our relationship may have had some difficult periods but
You had me at hello in 1996 and I’ve liked you throughout.
Austerity of 7 years did not help your cause
But in my eyes…no other manager in the world would have
Endured what you have and still shone
Now spend some F****ing money
Ta …Luv
and no lasagna necessary this time round!
Koscielny our boss for the day!! Ramsey, what a performance from the lad with the pressure under him after Arteta left the pitch. Those interceptions and clearances in the second half can’t be underestimated. I mean it was tight but our key players did their jobs when they needed to. Thank god for that!!!
COYG and Happy St. Totteringham’s day!!!!!!

Next season is our best chance to win the pl as manure, chavs and city will change managers and I see them taking time to adapt with the new manager and new methods. So glad that we could ‘get the job done’ and now we can add some players.
Downward spiral my arse. Eat my chavy shite spuds.
Well done the boys, I’m literally shocked by the anti Arsenal sentiment being banded about on the BBC and Sky Sports websites. It’s like we’ve stolen Fourth place from the scummers. I personally don’t even believe they bottled it, i just think they were not not good enough. They over achieved to get where they are with monkey boy single handily scrapping them through. We deserved to finish fourth with the fantastic run we had at the tail end of the season, and if we can do that carrying some of the players we have now, what can we do… Read more »
Gary Linker: eat shite you cunt. Why you have to make that distorted, unhappy face on MOTD the instant Arsenal’s Top 4 finish is mentioned? We Brits pay a TV licence in order to receive a BALANCED reporting of the news. Gareth Bale (aka ‘chimp’): “So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight…” Good luck in Spain or Germany or wherever fooking country you move to this summer. Chavski intruder: Sigmund Freud would certainly enjoy analysing why a certain Chav fan bothered to intrude onto the Arse blog and try shitting on the party on this particular day. He calls it PENIS… Read more »
Two defender making spurs to cry per, assit kos scores and they defend the goal. Ooo little spurs too young for a champ leg.
Definition of Choke
An annual event for tottenham shitspur come the final 10 games of the season after reaching a strong position only to forget that the best teams in the world play right to the last fucking minute of the season.
Embarrassed again you bunch of CHOKERS!
Relief has long been my favourite emotion. I genuinely think the last 10 mins. was the longest of my life.
If it wasn’t for the fact that Sp*rs are Sp*rs you could almost, almost feel sorry for them (but they are and I don’t, ha!).
Thank fuck that’s over.
We did it. Wow. WE DID IT. I fucking love Arsene and this crop of players. We did it. I was at WHL and was convinced we’d finish below the Spuds. I was preparing for the humiliation. It was excruciating. But we did it. I fucking love Arsenal Football Club. I honestly thought after that loss against the Spuds we couldn’t afford to loose another game. AND. WE. DIDN’T.
strange the way our defence has been criticized. Stats don’t lie. We have the best 2nd defence. I think our focus should be an alternative striker to giroud who can produce the goods.
Piers Morgan is a cunt!!!!
John Terry is also a cunt!
As much as it shouldn’t, 4th place feels like a trophy. We owe it largely to Mertesacker and Koscielny, although lets not forget the team effort as of late. Szczesny has found form again, Theo has scored a lot lately and is starting to earn his 100k a week. Ramsey has improved so much, and Cazorla has had a spectacular debut season. Sure, there have been lows, but there have been highs as well, and this 11 game unbeaten run has been one of them! Also, big thanks to Arsene Wenger, who, save one pre-Bayern interview, stayed cool in the… Read more »
If that wasn’t a 10/10 performance from Kos today then I don’t know what is…over to you arseblog!
without the goal i’d give him 10/10. The goal goes beyond the line of duty and earns him an extra pint, er i meant point.
Massive result today. Our team has been on a gradual decline for the last 7 years, understandably due to the stadium and financial restrictions, but buzzing for this summer after today as getting 4th was crucial. This is probably the turning point where our decline (if small) ends and we’ll start competing again. It looks as though all our stars are staying so no Van Persie, Nasri, Cesc sagas, we’ll clear out the deadwood such as arshavin, squid, bendtner etc and with the new commercial deals bringing in an extra £50 mil a year i genuinely think we’ll start to… Read more »
‘Because its silver and shining doesn’t make it a trophy’ 4th place trophy over europa league everyday!
Well done Gunners u beauty, another up urs Sp*r.To come back I don’t see Arsenal have excuses 4 the following season to complete at full capacity.
Thank god that’s over!!!
But I feel really positive about us signing some top quality players this summer now!! I think 2001 was the last summer I felt that way about arsenal signing players!!
To all those banging on about silverware vs 4th place:
Who would you rather be: Swansea, Wigan or Arsenal?
Yeah, quite ….
Or even Shitepool!
Mmmm smells good, spuds served on a plate. Complete with monkey butler
Wow!! 9 million net in 10 years
Moneyball
There’s only one arsene wenger!!!
I’ve read several bellends say Wigan have had a better season than Arsenal. Astonishing verdict.
Lets use this 4th place as a proper platform, for once! I’m optimistic.
For me the 4this a trophy!! Champions league Is the biggest football tournament after the World Cup every player wants to play in it, 17 years in it!! We just take it for granted!!
Well done Arsenal on winning the Wenger trophy for fourth place again. However we were outclassed by Manchester City and especially the magnificient Manchester United in the league. Our Arsenal was also embarrassed in the FA cup, humiliated in the League cup and failed again in the ECL. Each summer we are promised Trophy riches yet once more its only the invisible Wenger trophy to celebrate and finishing in front of Spurs who last one the Premiership in 1961. Its clear 90% of Arsenal supporters are happy with fourth and an empty trophy cabinet. The other 10% of us want… Read more »
I will make up part of that 10% from now. With all these commercial contracts signed we need to now make them count. We just need top, top, top players, just two or three. Another striker is a must. And I’d like to see some real competition for Theo.
There is no pleasing certain people. All I can say is fuck off and go support another team.
is that a scientific measurement? 90%?
Daveonewzealand go fuck off and support another team you dickhead, and by the way if you are from new zealand i suggest support a rugby team
I do support New Zealand rugby and we are the best in the world the last 100 years mate.
That’s why its hard to watch my favourite football team failing year after year.
Haha! If South Africa hadn’t been sanctioned from playing in international sport you wouldn’t throw that “stat” around so flippantly…
Love it when South African rugby gets mentioned in a good light on an Arsenal blog 🙂
Anyway, sticking to the theme, I was waving my Arenal scarf around my balcony so much, this one Chelski fan living in the apartment building next to mine started tuning me. So I just tell him to piss off, at least we don’t finger-paint signs saying we don’t want our own manager.
North London (and Cape Town) is red! COYG
Do you actually believe we’ve under achieved? Do you think we should have been finishing above either Manchester club or the chavs when comparing resouces? Honestly, what are you moaning about? This is a club to be proud of but you just dont get it. To stay competing over these last 10 years IS an achievement in itself. You may not like it but the reality is we’ve been battling against financial giants. We’ve kept ourselves in a position where we are still a credible club during challenging times and are probably well set to kick on and never EVER… Read more »
We were good when we were one of the only two rich clubs in the early 2000s. Then it was Just Manure and Arsenal . But then Chelsea got a rich owner and suddenly it became a three hosre race. Then Citeh got a rich owner too. Now its a four horse race. Arsene was successful when there were only two rich clubs but now there are four Arsenes record has slipped back to fourth.
The truth is that if Arsene Wenger had been coaching Chelsea or City with his record over the last nine yerars he would have been sacked nine times..
The truth Davo is that wenger has not only managed to keep us a top 4 side for 9m, but built a 500m stadium during the worst recession in living memory. Not many would argue that we are only a few signings away from challenging.
9m net. Thats a Torres forearm.
And God himself would have been sacked 9 times at Che£$ki, its what they do.
Always worth celebrating spuds bottle their way back to thursday. Let’s have a bring-a-bottler party right here. I’ve brought ‘totten*am fan’ who trolling post thier pointless win dribbles:
‘hey gooners-i’ll leave you with this-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA’.
Good job he left us that, he clearly doesn’t need it and we’ll be running out pretty soon.
Gotta say we’ve dissapointed alot of people today and thats not including the spuds and their chimp, from the press to the so called neutral sites , heck even the pproducers of the live coverage wanting to ensure the goal wasnt offside from every possible angle with the constant repeats.
all i can say is ..hahah and a big fuck you very much.
It’s now on Youtube!! Great moment!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOnBc30qbq4
The tall guy in the square print t-shirt, hope he sees himself.
What a relief. And that is what this only tolerable position is. Now please bring in some quality and perhaps a star or two. I would absolutely cream myself if we acquired Lewandowski or Cavani. Jovetic, Reus, perhaps Xabi Alonso if he is indeed unsettled, etc., etc. I hope this isn’t another anticlimactic or depressing close season.
Well, it wasn’t pretty but till do. It can only get better from here. Needless to say I’m sure most of us are glad to see that back of this season, and hope we push on with new signings in the next.
Where is fatgooner?
We are finishing the season in such a high, great performances, Champions League AND we are maintaining our top players. When was the last time this happened? We have struggled every start of season in the past years, losing players, rebuilding the squad, but now if we keep the momentum going into the new season we are bound to battle for trophies! Hopefully the money available now will be used to bring a few key players instead of plugging holes like we had to do in the past.
Let us all stand up for the BFG!! He is slow and maybe clumsy at times, but we have loved that type and seen the value of it. He is so slow he never gets out of position. Vermalen on the other hand, is up field down field, jumping, sliding and closing down. He seems to be every where just NOT where he is supposed to be. Vermalen is a good footballer, but sadly not a good defender.
Does anyone have the video of Spurs fans cheering the phantom goal?
See above under “TH14”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOnBc30qbq4
There it is. Enjoy!
Seen it on match of the day fucking classic, what a bunch of fucking muppets, one bloke in a grey top looked like he was on a fucking acid tab he was going that apeshit
Next season, we should take the handbrake out, smash it, pound it, melt it and feed it to spurs just to see em choke again! Happy St. Totteringhams. . . . COYG.
Players promised and delivered, out there haters r in great numbers,my advice to them,GO HUG TRANSFORMERS
From a lifelong Chelsea supporter, congrats. Your team put up a good run of form when it mattered.
Much rather see you lot in Europe than those headless, pedigree-not-having, overrated, media-hyped tw*ts from White Fart Lane.
Cheers, although it’s unfortunate most Chelsea fans would rather suck on the Cock&Balls. I think it’s plain to see that Sp*rs would get put into a shit CL group and would not even qualify for the knockout rounds.
Cheers mate,at least there’s some respectful oppostion fans left in the world
Isn’t your name an oxymoron 😉
Cheers mate, at least we are connected in our mutual hatred of Sp*rs
Koscienly is worth £30 million. I would pay that for him without so much as batting an eyelid. I am over the moon he’s playing his footbal at Arsenal. Wenger is a genius for unearthing such a talent. Not from ligue 1 but 2. Shame about Varane getting away.
I couldn’t agree more with you but kos was playing at Lorient in L1 when we bought him
What szczesny said.
COYG
It’s 12 games now undefeated and out of that only 2 draws, seriously this run must be sustained and we will have our new Arsenal Invicibles all set to claim our thropies back, starting next season. This team must be glued together, MUST!
I agree we are on the verge of something special
