Upcoming Arsenal signing Sanogo catches the eye at U20 World Cup

He may not yet officially be an Arsenal player, but Yaya Sanogo certainly seems determined to impress, with the 20 year old striker having scored two goals in two games for France at the U20 World Cup, which is currently taking place in Turkey.

Sanogo’s move to the club from Auxerre is likely to be confirmed following the conclusion of the tournament, but, before then, the striker, who has represented his country from U16 level upwards, will be hopeful of progressing as far as possible in the competition. He has certainly done his best so far to make that dream a possibility, scoring in a 3-1 win over Ghana before finding the net from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw with USA.

A skilful and acrobatic striker, it will be interesting to see what kind of impact Sanogo will make during his first season at Arsenal. He is likely to be restricted to Capital One Cup appearances early on, but could make the bench for some Premier League fixtures and will aim to become increasingly involved as the campaign progresses.

Another young signing, that of 16 year old Barcelona defender Julio Pleguezuelo Selva, moved a step closer to completion at the weekend, with the player arriving in London to finalise the move. Capable of playing at either right-back or centre-back and capped by Spain at youth level, Pleguezuelo will provide a much-needed defensive option in Arsenal’s U18 squad and joins fellow La Masia graduates Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral in attempting to reach the first-team at Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, in an unexpected turn of events, the club have reversed their decision to release centre-back Zach Fagan following the expiry of his scholarship deal. Fagan was expected to be let go at the end of this month having made several costly errors during the course of his scholarship despite demonstrating some improvement last season. However, after Elton Monteiro turned down Arsenal’s offer of a new deal in favour of a move to Club Brugge, Fagan has been offered a reprieve and is poised to continue his development at Arsenal as a third-year scholar next season.

With players due to return to London Colney for pre-season training next week, Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff will face difficult decisions regarding the club’s returning loanees, not least Wellington Silva and Samuel Galindo, both of whom have been sent out on loan on several occasions owing to work permit problems. Galindo, back from a spell in his native Bolivia with Jorge Wilstermann, is expected to be sent out on temporary transfer again, but the biggest decision will centre on Wellington, with the Brazilian winger possessing considerable potential despite not being afforded much game time during his stints in Spain in recent years.

Sanogo could have had a hat trick vs the US. Real potential there.

ryan

all due respect, but the player who actually _does_ score a hat-trick against the US (Deulofeu) is the player with potential.

ryan

*nearly

Er1

True, but this is an arsenal blog…

Er1

Edit : I mean that Arsenal are after the other one… so fck deloofoofoo

mosh gunner

True but he’s not free, sanogo is

JL

Except he didn’t. And if not for some s*** goalkeeping on the penalty, he wouldn’t have scored any.

His goal in the first game looked good, though. Decent movement and good placement (five-holed the keeper).

some dumb american

Also on a penalty that shouldn’t have been given. Outside the box.

Weng(unn)er

An injury free Sanogo will be a brilliant prospect 2 years down the line. Just hope that if he happens to fulfill his potential and becomes a star, he’ll repay the trust Arsene and the club have put in him despite being injury prone today.

Jagger

I personally hope he turns out to be like Ibrahimovic (development wise, not attitude wise). He has got agility, balance, power and strength and possibly speed. A potential complete forward.

Silent Stanley

Yaya Sanogo. Score some goal goal. Don’t be like the cunt from Togo.

Silent Stanley

That was terrible

Kolololo

Doesn’t he look like Heskey? At least in this photo. One legend coming right up…

Hulk

He actually looks like Heskey’s Dad. That is one old ass looking 20 year old.

lonsdale

Seems like Obafemi Martins mkII. 20 going on 29.

mahi ahmad

Th’t is nice one

kunle

Sanogo has scored three goals in the tournament, he scored 2 goals in the first match and 1 goal in their match against USA

I have a name?

I think you’re thinking of Kondogbias goal in the opener.

ghanagunner

he scored the second goal against ghana. kondogbia scored the first. forgotten the name of the other striker who scored the third. but it will be interesting to watch them against Spain.

LANS

Getting a good feeling about this signing already!

Mertesacker's Houseboy

Holy hell he does look old, or maybe that’s just his game face?

jsergio

Maybe it’s his cumface….

glory hunter

Its just a bad picture, he’s a young and good looking lad.

WoodburyGooner

Maybe 20 is his ‘Kanu’ age?

Joking asides he could be decent for us, I’d certainly sooner see someone like this on the bench than a Park or Chamakh!

Gooner Power

This guy will be BEAST 🙂

Kenyangoon

During that game against the u.s. He seemed fairly quick for a guy with bad knees.
I was impressed by him, neat tricks and all. Plus he has this swagger while on the pitch, that particular confidence that really makes the great ones stand out from the good ones. Kinda like how i felt when i first saw jack play.
I should be a scout….

Gutbukkit Deffrolla

He looks a bit like Djourou, but much less young and innocent.

This guy won’t ever look like a rabbit in the headlights.

Emma osas

He’s mor lik baloteli for me!

Aros

Be nice to our players, please. No one deserve that kind of abuse!

Chair

What? Balotelli is an absolute beast of a player. He might be eccentric, but if you manage to control him, boy you have a striker on your hands.

Judgement day (once more)

Lovely bit of news on a fucking cold and rainy Wednesday (the fucker of the week).

Even though this fella looks 38 I hold him as a supreme talent, hopefully we will get to see him in the PL this year!

Rad Carrot

Yeah, are we sure that’s him up there?

Will be a good signing; not a marquee one, but we need options up front. If we do get Higuain, with him and Giroud as out and out strikers and several more who can play up front if needed, we should be alright in that department.

Yavor

Sanogo`s potential is obvious, but he`s still very raw. Let`s hope he stays injury free and develops the right way. For now Joel Campbell is miles ahead of him in terms of maturity and confidence. Hope to see them both in our first team in the future!

frrrred

His face is spoiling the pattern of arsenals forwards there. Giroud/Poldi/Walcott/Higu…..*cough cough

One thing is for sure I don’t want to find out how he looks when he turns 30!

Merlin's Panini

He’ll be a late bloomer, you’ll see 😉

Arseblood

I’m sure him and Diaby will be great mates. Chatting about what might have been in the treatment room….

Siz C

“One thing is for sure I don’t want to find out how he looks when he turns 30!”.

….you never know, he maybe a real life version of Benjamin Button or be like Martins and never turn 30

glory hunter

Martins turns 30 next year lol

10 years after actually turning 35 🙂

Er1

Is the comment moderation a new thing ? I haven’t posted anything in a while..

i want to boff giroud and im not even gay

In his home land he’s already being lauded as ‘The New Kaba Diawara’

Glasgow Gunner

If city steal higuain ( I hope to god they don’t, especially after laughing at Madrid interest in Paulinho), this kid might suddenly have the weight of the world on his shoulders. I hope we have a back up signing in mind if the Gonzalo deal is highjacked.

Jesus, what am I saying!. if we are matching wages then London is more attractive than Manchester, with or without buddies Aguero and Pabletta. Oh Fuck!

Merlin's Panini

It’s Zabaleta, not that it matters.
I really would hope City don’t come in at the last minute but it would be totally their style. Let’s
hope Dick plays hard ball (fnar!!) and get’s this straightened out (fnar again?) asap.

Denilson's back pass

Alright, fuckit, suppose it’s time to Youtube the kid.

Hope we’ll get to see him in a few Cup games this season.

Hope Miquel steps up a bit too.

And Eisfeld?

Aneke?

So many promising youngsters, hope they don’t all follow JET’s route.

Rad Carrot

Don’t forget Afobe. I’m expecting big things from that kid.

gidi don

this guy looks like a 30 year old from this picture

Micko
Boblex

and that rambo is ahead of him as well! Sun=Man u arselickers

Boblex

we’ve signed an Emily Heskey lookalike ?! o_O

Merlin's Panini

As long as he’s not a playalike who cares?

Merlin's Panini

Latest gossip I’ve seen is Higuain’s brother saying he’s “close” to us and that Juventus couldn’t afford him. Looking good if true. Just how far through he means by “close” who knows?
I am hoping it means the deal just needs to be ratified and pictures taken of him in full kit but with no boots on.

john leach

Arsenal said they got money to spend so why are they not all I have heard is about higuian am sorry but he can not win us the cup on his own
