A report from a Valencia focused sports website says that Arsenal will be in the Spanish city today to discuss terms over goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
The 26 year old is a graduate of the Valencia academy but has fallen behind Brazilian Diego Alves in the pecking order and is said to be unhappy at the situation.
Superdeporte.es say that Valencia are aware of Arsenal’s interest and although they’ve offered the player a new contract, he’s unwilling to sign at this point.
Normally we wouldn’t necessarily report on this kind of rumour, but the website seems well informed about goings on at Valencia and the idea of Arsenal buying a second choice keeper from Spain seems a bit familiar somehow.
Which reminds us. What do you call a Spanish dude who has recovered from illness?
Manuel.
[spinning bow tie].
Meh. Not really enough to get me out of my transfer-window-gloom..
So fire is really burning at Emirates.
I was wondering lately whether all these latest “transfer bids” (i.e. Guaita, Cabaye, Suarez etc.) were made on purpose to hint at internal mismanagement. I mean you simply cannot be serious stating, on the one hand, that we’re in for world class players and on the other make bids for Cabaye and Guaita. I start to think (or would like to think, who knows?) that Gazidis made his early statements to actually demonstrate that his part of the job has been done in order to be out of the blame: funds are there and available to the manager. Wenger tries… Read more »
By the way, what happened to this black scarfs movement? Is that still going on?
Yes it is, as I understand it they are one of the parties that has written an open letter to the club.
Check out their website – http://www.wherehasourarsenalgone.co.uk
They talk a lot of sense! Especially at times like this.
Well, speaking of world class, I heard we were planning a bid for Iker Casillas. Not like we are ever going to get him, though
Was Overmars not brought in by Rioch along with Bergkamp? Wenger had the best defence in Europe (just about lol) and supplemented it with good forward/midfield players from France as he had a good insight into the French market of players. Now this has been eroded and the scouts don’t seem up to it. If you ask me (I know no one has) we need a young German manager with an insight into that market (german) as to me this is where the quality lies at the moment. Hell if we are so cash rich why can we not raid… Read more »
Sanogo will be a top class striker, he’s a young guy with a lot of potential who actually wants to play for us.
Stop using him as a scapegoat for all our transfer woes, its not his fault he’s the only player who’s been signed. Get off his back and actually have some bloody faith in him.
The whole point is we need a few world class signings alongside our current crop, that doesn’t our players are shit and wont progress, just management need to pull their bloody thumb out and strengthen.
STOP KNOCKING OUR OWN PLAYERS!!
The previous we dispatched to Spain only learnt the meaning of siesta. They dozed right through the transfer window
Don’t roll your eyes at this one. If this turns out to be something I’ll be ecstatic! Guita Is top quality and has been my first choice for a while I we were to buy another keeper.
Don’t be put off by the fact that he is ‘second choice’ as the article reads; they have Alves as well.
This has gone beyond a joke
Just buy Begovic you cunts, we’ll get over the fact we have to give Stoke money when he doesn’t come 35 yards out of his goal for no reason
‘you cunts.’ well done.
Well this is on the ’99p or less shelf’ but for some reason is marked a fiver. Oh well beggars can’t be choosers into the trolley it goes.
I felt the full effects of my Arsenal lowball, brainwashing today.
I was at the supermarket and looking to buy some bread. I saw that the bread which expires in 2 days time was $2 cheaper than the bread that expires in 4 days time.
Guess who’s going back to the shops in 2 days time?
fuck my life
While my poor wife was feigning interest in my Arsenal rantings this morning, I tried to explain Wengers scatter gun approach to transfer as being similar to what would happen if we let our 4 yr old daughter do the weekly supermarket shop. We would end up with a trolley load of stuff we didn’t need or have any use for just because she could reach them…if we got anything at all.
I expect the trolley would be disproportionately full of sweets, which is similar to Arsene stocking up on another small tidy attack minded midfielder that he doesn’t need.

quickbuysomethingbuysomethingbuysomethingnownownownowanythingwhoeverthefuckitisjustbuyhimnownownow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s make this happen.
I personally would try to go for Begovic or Rui Patricio, oh well.
Begovic 100%.
Top top top quality.
Why Valencia’s second choice keeper? The third choice has a too high clause?
let’s bag’em all. let’s just do it.
Get Begovic to be 1st choice keeper. We don’t want another average Aluminia type signing. I thought (Ivan Gazidis) we were going to ‘surprise’ people with bids for world class players not sign average/ shit players in the 4-10m£ bracket.
Please recruit a DoF or a TD Mr Gazidis because you’re obviously shit at the ‘signing players’ part of you job.
Im no Gazidis apologist (though he’s done well as our Chief Executive to bring the $$ in) but to be fair he did say that Arsenal would surprise in their bidding, which they have. I never would have thought we would bid 40 mil for a player, I mean that’s nearly 4x our transfer record. Now the utter shit show that devolved into on the other hand…well no comment.
In a Spanish mall now with our trolley? Might as well grab Kondogbia and Rami while we are at it.
As a ‘fan’ of the french national team (within the limits of how much one can really care for internationals), Rami is fucking shit. That’s my 2 cents, but then again he’s a CB and well… those come in handy every so often.
lets buy every second rate player we can get our hands on
Pah, If we are going to buy a keeper it should either be someone older with more experience who can help Szczesny to develop into the quality keeper he could become. Or it should be someone younger who will take over as our first choice. This guy seems to tick neither box 🙁 Begovic would be my choice.
As upsetting as Saturday was – watching MOTD and seeing Mignolet and Begovic have stormers made it worse – £10m isn’t a great deal in the grand scheme of things and I reckon he’s worth a couple of points come May.
So, I’m with you on thinking Begovic would be a good shout.
Although feel a bit dirty thinking a Stoke player is the answer to (some of) our problems.
This issue of saying we dont buy the best keeper just because we want Scz to remain happy is nonsense. it is similar to when wenger would not buy world class because that would kill young Diaby and Denilson. we should stop that crap. just buy the best players to compete. if scz is inferior then let the better player come in and play.
Agreed!
Not quite that simple, is it? Szcez may not be better this year but world-class in two years. So do you rob Peter to pay Paul? I just don’t think Szcez will ever be world-class, but what do I know.
But then should Szcheznys development be at the expense of the first team? GK is a unique position, you can’t give them a couple of games here or there, or bring them on for the last 20 mins like you could a young outfield player. Perhaps a season long loan is the answer? There was a story last year that Lehman critisised the GK coaching last season, and told Schzez that it wasn’t specific to his needs, when Szchezny brought this up with AW he was dropped. As with all our coaches, they aren’t exactly inspiring, Gerry Peyton wasn’t even… Read more »
Gerry Peyton was dirt
Play Fabianski and let SZCZ rot on the bench
Not our 1st time in spain, is it?
Weird.
Surely we don’t need a second choice GK, we’ve got a couple of those as it is…
I’ll settle for anyone at this pont.
this point obviously
It’s that type of thinking that got us Squillaci and Park. The money’s there, the fans are booing you, and you as manager want to buy some more dross you won’t play and can’t get rid of? How can you settle for that and be a fan of this club? Have we not learned our lesson. I’d settle for Higuain for 30 in June, and Kondogbia and a CB three weeks ago. Anything less and you are ripping off the players themselves.
What happened to “top, top class players”?
btw YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?!?!!
CHESNEY CAN FINALLY PLAY OUTFIELD!!!
Watching the Villa game it seemed it was his favourite position anyway.
duh
Welcome to Hamburg SV, Vicente.
Does anyone care anymore?! We were so optimistic about this summer and now the sadness is just too much.
For the first time I properly feel like nobody has the clubs best interests at heart. I’m not saying Suarez at 50 million was a good idea, but Higuain at 30 miillion wasn’t too shabby… Our poor squad is so depleted already. I really feel for the players.
The Manuel joke has made my morning.
Why are we buying a second choice goalkeeper? We have enough of them already… we should be going for whoever is keeping this chap out of the team!
Will always prefer Julio Ceaser to this unknown lad… We are seeing the top quality which you have been keeping vigil analysing… Arsene that word is paining me and i will continue to use it… Get us top quality players as u promised… Will never be excited with this names.
Pick up Adil Rami while you’re there will you, Dick?
no please no rami,he is decent but i think he is the squid mark II
What do you think about Micah Richards? As RB obviously. He’s not going anywhere at City. I guess Sagna would then cover at CB and we’d still need another CB.
Richards is a very good CB as well, personally I think he would be a fantastic signing.
Kills two birds with one stone
oh great – i really worry for us this season, and the fact that about a month ago i was actually optimistic about the season ahead. how things change
oh great – i really worry for us this season, and the fact that about a month ago i was actually optimistic about the season ahead. how things change
Not exactly inspiring but we do need a GK
And Suddenly Wenger discovers top top quality…hopefully tinz can still be salvaged
just what we need, 2 average keepers fighting for number 1. Chez could really learn from a world class keeper ahead of him for a few seasons.
Underwhelmed. Shopping at ASDA….
Our summer planning has been so bad, I actually feel it was a mistake to sell all our crap players now. Our players must be so very frustrated.
EAZEH SAGNA EAZEH SAGNA – ON YA NECK HE HIT THE DECK
What the fuck are we doing? Signing more deadwood? This is beyond stupid.
fire in emirate, how i which we the fans can boycut the next matches dat would be cool, atleast dey wud take urs the “fans” serious
Is your keyboard missing a few letters?
I WANT TO PUT BOLOGNESE SAUCE ON SAGNAS HEAD AND JUST EAT IT AT VITO MANNONES’ DADS RESTAURANT – EAZEH SAGNA EAZEH SAGNA
Most people can see through this. We have no clear strategy for identifying and bringing players in. Wenger must have had a list of players he wanted to sign. We are now onto recommendations from agents by the looks of it.
Why aren’t we chasing someone with Premiership experience as a first choice keeper (sorry Szczesny that is not you yet) such as Begovic?
I can’t wait to read the book on all this.
Fuck it. As soon as i get the new Fifa i know what players il be gettig the buisness done early.
Begovic, M Richards, A Williams, Fellaini, Suarez
Possibly Kondogbia and Michu as well. £140 mil or so ? Whats the problem Ivan?
A good keeper behind fallen behind Diego. I thought for the last year that IF we got rid of Szczesny we should go in for him… not sure about him as competition though.
Still, I’d be happy if he came.
Wenger’s supposed “top top top” quality = 2nd choice players from mid table teams. Absolute disgrace
Why are we showing interest in players who have fallen down the pecking order – Guaita, Cabaye, Gustavo… That means there is a better player in front of them at their club
If we sign these players then face their old club then surely we’d be second best. Do we want to be second best? I suppose it is better than 4th best
Uuh so close he is lucky we have szczesney as our third choice….wait he’s first choice? vicente you have got yourself a spot!
I love Woj, but if the club wants a goalkeeper and funds are realy available, there’s a guy called Casillas in Madrid who’s not playing and rumored to be in bad terms with his president.
Guaita would be just ok, Casillas would be a Bergkamp move.
Anyway, not going to happen.
It’s The Mail, so I’m not going to say that this disproves your ‘not going to happen’ line, but it would be smashing if this was true:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2397872/Arsenal.html
wenger again looking for bargain buys. why doesnt he stump up the cash for begovic. specially since that sceszny guy is becoming more and more annoying and reckless by the day
It seems like everyone is agreed on Begovic. Except those holding the purse strings.
Let me get those too
Great,
All we need is a new Almunia.
Never heard of him. Is he any good?
If he’s better than Flappy, then I don’t see the problem with buying him. Yes, there are others around, but they’ve all been snapped up, and Cesar is, frankly, overrated in my eyes. If he can come to us and do a job, then fine. Yes, it’s extremely underwhelming, but who the fuck cares?
Yippee…

I’m here all week folks. Try the veal
Good Morning, Not sure why anyone is so surprised at us going for a 2nd team keeper from Valencia. Makes perfect sense to me. Unsettled after being dropped to 2nd choice, young (26), probably not worried about a bidding war with the likes of Madrid, Barca, Chelsea etc…..Lord knows we are not gonna swim at that end of the pool, will certainly be cheaper than a 1st choice established keeper like Begovic…..and Arsene Wenger! Outside of the fact that he isn’t French, this is like a match made in heaven. I am talking peas in a pod and all that.… Read more »
Relax guys, you’re taking the Almunia comparison too much to heart.
This guy is a good keeper and would add to the depth at the position which is lacking. He’s not a bad player at all.
We won’t sign him so it’s besides the point anyway.
How do you know he is good? How many times have you seen him play?
The very fact that Fulham beat us to Maarten Stekelenburg and Julio Cesar is still at QPR reeks of some power struggle going on behind the scenes really who is his guy? Wenger needs to get over himself ..and start buying proper players …you can’t build a team of untapped potential …how many times do need to rebuild this team before enough is enough..Pay Cesar the 200k he wants pay Sevilla the 20M they want for Kondogbia buy a decent defender like Sahko or Papadopoulos…maybe try get Munian or Ljajic and lets get the rest of the squad motivated again..because… Read more »
Both Cesar and Stekelenberg would have been good buys… in 2010. But there’s a reason why Inter sold Cesar and he only ended up at QPR, just as there is one for the fact that Stekelenberg is no longer Holland’s No. 1.
Casillas coming would be something else, and I’m sure he could teach Szcz a thing or two. But pigs will probably have to fly first.
