After being linked with the Gunners this week, Karim Benzema’s agent says there’s no way Arsenal will sign the French striker.
In news which will hardly surprise anyone, or an easily surprised otter or startled tapir, the player’s agent said, “We can’t stop the rumours. But I tell you: Karim will not go to Arsenal. It’s never been a question for him and no contact has been made.
“He will stay at Madrid. The probable arrival of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid doesn’t threaten him at all. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale will play on the wings and Karim in the centre.’
“Karim could very well finish his career at Real, the club of his dreams.”

The placing of Giroud on a pedestal after three games is just as short-sighted (if not more) than the fans who wrote him off after one season. I hope Giroud becomes the best striker in the world, but I would give it a little more time before claiming it. it’s not as we’re placing him on a pedestal after 3 games. some of us were really pleased with his debut season, not only in terms of scoring, but also in terms what he does for the team in general. that we’ve been drown out by the Giroud-doubting bandwagon is another thing.
i personally regret we didn’t get Villa. i’d take him over both Higuain and Benzema. would let us play Giroud as the first choice while providing a perfect backup and fuelling the development of Sanogo. it’s great pity he didn’t seem to like such a scenario.

Nothing has changed. Giroud remains an average striker. That he is just average and not world class will be borne out when we play the best teams, against whom he’ll do little or nothing. If we want to be one of the best teams in the world, we need to have a top class striker. Giroud is not that.
Of all the strikers out there, only Messi, Rooney and Suarez can perform against top teams and as far as I know, they are NOT for sale. Did you ever watch RvP against a half decent side? He goes missing.

Honestly? I think we were *kinda* interested but not at high prices, his goal record isn’t brilliant and with other strikers available I don’t think we saw it as worth pursuing.

Jovetic is more of a SS or even AM than a CF. What we need is a CF, we don’t really need someone to help with the build-up play. At least, that’s my guess. There is also the fact that we probably couldn’t (wouldn’t?) match what Man City were offering.

Aye, I think most of us want the depth more than anything else, I really rate our first 11 or maybe even first 16 but we need another striker, certainly an ‘attacker’ if the Ox is cover in midfield and Poldi is cover for CF; versatility is good but it can lure you into thinking you have more cover than you do.
With the Ox out for what could be a while, Poldi might play most of the time at LW, with Cazorla as back up, and then Rosicky or Wilshere moving to CM. Which leaves only Giroud at CF.
Wenger will not buy big. He has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder over money, to my mind, and CANNOT spend big. He has a big internal battle. I haven’t seen him play for over 18 months now but he never struck me as being slow, not the most efficient guy in front of goal but pretty quick, skillful and capable of good finishing (much like Theo, but a little slower and more skillful). Haven’t been convinced by watching Giroud and Benzema play together at international level that that partnership would work for us, so not too worried about this one. Di Maria has a great left foot and quick feet, think he’d give us something unexpected on the left wing.

Zzz… There’s nothing remotely average about Giroud. He’s a class act & a proven winner. To still get to double figure in goals & assist in his 1st season in England, in a big team, with a huge pressure of replacing somebody like RVP, is not an average thing. We’re maybe lacking squad depth at the moment, but not lacking in quality of the players.
I’m not sure Ollie G is a 30 per season man but he is good+.
The other thing he brings is that he’s a good team player. That’s not something that should be thrown out for anything other that a real WC player as it would be easy to lose the goals from other players where he assists in the build up.
30 per season usually means that the team really doesnt have much other attacking threat…i would take 2 strikers with 20+ and 2 at 10+ anyday over and above one 30+.

Depends but unlikely at the moment. Too many moving parts. Suarez has to move and we know how recalcitrant Liverpool are. Still we don’t know how things will shape up in the coming week with Bale likely sold and Real possibly looking to balance the book. Personally, Michu at this point is enough for our needs.
