Gervinho: it wasn’t all bad

Former Gunner Gervinho says his time at Arsenal wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be, but that he’s glad to have gone in order to play more regular football.

The Ivorian became something of a byword for inefficiency and unpredictability, but claimed it wasn’t all bad in his two year spell at the Emirates.

“I think I had a great time during my spell in England, especially at Arsenal,” he told FourFourTwo (although we’re struggling to think about where else he might have enjoyed himself).

“I really enjoyed playing for that club. It’s true that I did not think I would leave after two seasons, but I’m pretty happy.

“I don’t really agree with the thought that everything was negative for me at Arsenal. I reckon I could have done better if the circumstances were different, I need a lot of playing time and that’s why I decided to leave the club.”

He kind of glosses over the fact that much of the playing time he missed was down to him having to bugger off the African Cup of Nations in both seasons following his move from Lille. Not his fault, obviously, but when you’re not around for a few months at a time, you can’t expect to come waltzing back into the team unless you’re one of the best players.

And with all due respect to him, he wasn’t that. He also claimed that he didn’t have the full confidence of Arsene Wenger during his time at the club.

“Wenger, well, I think he’s one of the great coaches. He’s someone I have great respect for and I’m also very happy to have been able to play for his club

“I think forwards need to feed on the confidence of their managers, I would have preferred to have that chance.”

Confidence, eh?

Unyoke the ox

I remember when he looked like a genuine threat in his 1st pre-season. Then it all went horribly wrong.

Bolarinwa Mayowa

U’re right gerve, it wasn’t all bad atall. All the best

Arsenal gone for good

4 days to go and we are yet to see the top top top quality + versatility

the Only One

he was not that bad…he would have played our next match if was around..

Thin Gooner

Deserves kudos for nailing Joey Barton and getting sent off in his first game.

richardanus

…punch !! Punch ?? Judging by that bitch-slap Geronimho aimed at Barton he isn’t capable of punching. It would be like being hit by a wet kipper.

Chopra gooner

With just a few days left, I’m feeling very nervous. I doubt any deals to sign top top quality players like Mata, benzema, di maria or ozil. I wouldn’t mind Demba ba, 29 goals in 54 games for Newcastle. Would be content to see Toby, Eriksson, Cabaye and Flamini sign for us if we don’t manage to bring big names in

Diaby

Have you been like this since childhood?

Chopra gooner

What’s your problem? Do you even understand what I have written?

The fool of a Took

That´s it! Everybody CHILL!!

Focus your anger on the heavenly gods who hates Arsenal.

I have serious doubts whether Arsene will be able to bring in any top top player so late in the window. He has put the whole summer into jeopardy by waiting endlessly for that elusive player/s. God knows who exactly is he looking for. Anyway, in 4 days this excruciating pain and frustration will get over. Football will be the subject on my mind. My hopes have eroded and I now pray that we get at least 3-4 bodies in who can help our squad cope with the rigours of the long season.

davidnewzealand

When Arsenal, zero spent on transfers beats Spurs, 100 mill spent on transfers it will be Spurs who are the laughing stock. Just a little worried though Arsene might then think he can put the Visa card away. But seriously I do believe Arsene will serve up a top class striker, GK, an AM and another defender as well as Flamini. 5 players to be announced over the next few days. Then everyone can say I always knew he would deliver, never doubted him one second 🙂

Pearson

Remember when Flamini kicked that Spud into row Z during the Spud’s misguided adventure into the big boys league at the San Siro?…true Gooner, gave me a warm feeling all over when I saw that spud writhing on the floor.
I hope he can do it again and kick a few more potatoes into touch on Sunday

TGSTEL

Man that forehead is still legend in my books! 🙂

Gervinho's barber

He was a great client too, gonna miss him

Gerv's friend

Why did you have to cut all the hair off my friend’s forehead sir?

Verminator's Mojo

He was supposed to shave Gerv’s head but got tired only after shaving his forehead….. Then Gerv said “That looks great”.

Achike

Honestly I am feeling very very unease about this Wenger attitude towards signing to of the grade players. The era of grooming boys for resale to other big clubs is over. He should realise that.

Bee

after this summer of transfer torture there had better be an epic trolley dash in these last few days/hours to make up for it!

Bee

this is probably our most important weekend in many, many years – massive game against our historical and now direct football rival, and the closing of the transfer window after pretty much every single team in the league has spent on ‘better’ platers.

so it would be nice if silent fucking stan could making the fucking effort to come over for a few days to attend the game and act like he gives a fuck.

davidnewzealand

I still can’t believe some club took him off our hands and paid a few mill as well.
Good luck to him, and his new club. What was his name again?

Auslaender

To be fair, big ol’ forehead is miles better than his replacement

shitbird

Replacement?

davidnewzealand

Yes, replacement ? had me befuddled too . bit like Girv 🙂

glory hunter

That’s Auslaender’s point!
Gerv is better than his replacement ‘nobody’ 🙁

Merlin's Panini

his replacement: no one.

Gutbukkit Deffrolla

I get it. Very good.

Harish P

I really wish him the best, but I’m happy he’s gone. Hopefully his former manager, with him now at Roma, can help him shine again.

Dennis Classy Bergkamp

I thought that when this guy left, we’d be bringing in a replacement. Then I realized the Ox would get more 1st team action. Now that he’s injured, we surely have to bring in people. I know we’ve lost players in the past but this has got be the most frustrating summer of all time!

don

Nice to hear him being positive and respectful about the club, unlike other ex gooners (na$ri you cunt)

richardanus

aaaah Geronimho.

Thank fuck he’s gone.

Zm87

Na$ri’s gf is called anara i went to school with the whore plus she sucked me off behind the gym Hahaha! Na$ri sloppy seconds mate Hahaha! WANKA!!!!!

goonerdal

It’s no coincidence we bid for Cabaye just after the villa loss isn’t it? Fans causing unrest, talking of a crisis, sudden letters to the club to spend….

So hey why not put in a derisory bid for Cabaye knowing full well he will not be sold for a meagre £10m but just to appease the fans that the club is willing to spend. why have we not we followed up on the deal, is it becuase we haven’t bean beaten since villa? haha u know it.

glory hunter

I dont get that logic, what fan is appeased that we made a bid for Cabaye that got rejected?!?!

if anything it gets the fans even more irate!!!

GFonne

More importantly… who the hell wears a hat with “Gervinho” on it?!… oh wait… Gervinho does…

The Alsacien

Ok, I almost wrote this to Blogs but will share it with everybody. We have a family friend who is a benefactor at a french association for people with leukodystrophy. He’s an Arsenal fanatic. Christian Jeanpierre, who is a french commentator and Wenger’s close friend, is a benefactor as well. Our family friend and Jeanpierre were talking about Arsenal transfer activities at a recent event for that association and Jeanpierre said that Arsenal were about to make an incredible coup before the closing of the transfer window. He said that he couldn’t reveal the details but that it will be… Read more »

Ramesh

My apologies first. I actually Googled to make sure that leukodystrophy and Christian Jeanpierre are real and not figments of your imagination. Both exist. Now, I am a bit giddy with excitement.

The Alsacien

I’ve been trying, relentlessly, to have him call Jeanpierre and torture him for the info if need be. BECAUSE IT’S F*CKING TORTURING ME!!!

Ozziegun

Can’t wait for Wenger to re-sign him in a few years for free

49er

No hard feelings towards Gervinho. Things just didn’t work out but it wasn’t through lack of effort. He wasn’t a disaster of a signing either. Wish him all the best.

The dexterity, unpredictability and sheer terror-factor of a rabid spider, the shooting skills of … a rabid spider, and the hair of a rabid spider. Gervinho.
