Injury worries ease ahead of Fenerbahce

Arsenal’s injury worries have been eased somewhat ahead of their crucial Champions League qualifier with Fenerbahce tomorrow.

After Arsene Wenger admitted weekend concerns over Tomas Rosicky (torso, limbs, organs), Aaron Ramsey (ankle), Kieran Gibbs (gash), Bacary Sagna (bendy neck) and Alex Olxade-Chamberlain, it seems only the latter will miss out due to a knee ligament problem.

The rest were involved in Arsenal’s final training session before the trip, and will travel to Turkey to play the first leg of what could be a season defining encounter.

The Gunners are already without skipper Mikel Arteta and club captain Thomas Vermaelen, while Spanish full back Nacho Monreal is not expected back for another week or 10 days.

Any concrete info on the Ox?

plus a pound!

He’s not made of concrete.

Bahador

….hahahahahaha

tomJ

I think Bacs could be though after that fall. Offer that man another 2 year contract

Harsh

i agree, if someone can get back to training after that fall, #Respect….. i mean, just remembering it makes me cringe……… how the hell, sagna got fit so soon………
simply stunning…..

Unyoke The Ox

Unlikely to be unyoked in the near future.

thw14

As much as I want this very positive news to be true, I think it’s worth pointing out that declaring a player fit is subjective. That is to say, if a manager has options in the squad and a player picks up a slight strain, he would most likely choose to rest the player as a precaution. On the other hand, if he has a squad of some 18 players, he would throw on a player even with a bad neck because the alternative is to rely on a youth player or an attacking midfielder. Add to this the fact… Read more »

Can’t believe Sagna is ok after that fall. I’ve only watched it once (that’s all I could stomach) and my first thoughts were he’s lucky not to be paralysed!

ckmma

And people say footballers arn’t tough any more.

Finsbury Park Gooner

Sagna isn’t a footballer, he’s an infiltration unit. Part man, part machine. Underneath, it’s a hyperalloy combat chassis, mircoprocessor-controlled, fully armored. Very tough.

Dark Stein

Why didn’t they build him with better hair though?

Venger

You made my day, mate!

doozer

and tougher legs…

rawgooner

I cant believe somebody put a thumbs down! Proper LOL!

Merlin's Panini

I fucking love that guy!

Sorry that’s Robocop isn’t it…

Exiledgooner

I’ve always thought his hair made him look a little bit like the Predator.

nicc

love Sagnas hair.
it’s the only instance of corn-rows I’ve seen that don’t look like shit

Tom

The constantly angry fan (though, aren’t we all) i sat next to at the Villa game kept shouting ‘we want our Arsenal back’ at Wenger. I sort of see what he meant, but given that Wenger made Arsenal the club it is today it was grimly amusing. When any Arsenal player was ever on the ground he stood up and shouted, “GET UP, YOU PONCE.” It’s this sort of vitriol the really is unnecessary. As Blogger said, these players are threadbare and giving it their all. He did it to both Sagna and Gibbs. Oh the fickle fans.

Hudson

Exactly, seems to be more hostility at home games than away at the moment. The atmosphere at Fenerbahce will probably come as a relief!

E.Jack Hewlett

so was he able to speak after you rollicked him for his slagging on Bac and Kieran?

Bolarinwa Mayowa

Sagna’s a mutant

Hudson

Poor Sagna ended up with his head up his arse, I can’t believe they’ve popped it out again and he’s fine (hope he’s given his hair a good wash though)

Kebabs

Am I the only one who feels as if that despite these players being ‘playable’ for Fenerbahce that in reality if we had a deeper squad there would be no chance they would play and although all of their injuries are less bad than anticipated (other than ox) they are still injured players who shouldn’t be playing this game?

Professional Cynic

Bit unfair on Gibbs, he’s quite good.

Mark

I like gash!

Jamie

EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK!

Hudson

This is dangerously close to good news, I don’t know what to do with this strange feeling.

RC Motors

Just breathe deeply and count to ten

Bablojnr

Good news for a change… We have been saying for years that this is a sub standard team and its good that we are now in the majority. Wenger out please

Bee

dont worry, it will soon pass!

Weed Wisdom

Good to hear this after what was a terrible few days. Hope the Ox’es injury is not as bad as speculated on the interwebs.

Arsene

we will miss the OX direct play. he is currently the most direct player we have

lordgunner

rosicky!!!

Arsene Ill

Is this getting downvoted for the lack of an apostrophe? Can’t see how it’s really that objectionable otherwise, Rosicky’s up there but this isn’t far off the truth..

Brian Mendoza

Well thank FUCK for that

Good news was needed round these here parts

GoonerFan1

Just a reminder. When the chips are down, more often than not, The Arsenal turn it around. COYG!!!!!!!!!

Merlin's Panini

When the chips are down, he reminds himself he’s the chairman of Arsenal and he’s rolling in it and then he feels much better.

Nacho was pictured training with the team I believe.

Denis

This is good news and wish them luck as I remain confident that we will deliver

obodago spencer

True talk Dennis surely something good will come out of that match,we have to be optimistic

Now all we need is for the fax machine to recover, and we’re all set.

any reports on the health/status of the 24×7 scouting/transfer negotiation squad? Any call-ups mentioned?

You have just reached Arsenal Football Club’s 24-hour transfer helpline. All our executives are busy, please hold, someone will be with you shortly.

You know that things are really bad when Abou Diaby’s name does not even figure on the injured list!

Jack's Right Foot

Ha. Organs.

Bishop

Good news at Arsenal this summer has been a rare commodity as the Champions League Anthem is at White Hart Lane

And looking at this news, and how much it has lightened my mood ahead of Tomorrow’s clash reminds me of when I travelled to work for a sugar factory in the east of the country, and then civil war broke out, we worked for 6 months without pay and one day, the bosses came and offered us a months salary and everybody took it saying thank you to the bosses.

On top of it all the official Arsenal iPhone app has died. Nothing in the official fixture list but the friendly victory over Shitty. Does nothing work any more?

Gunnery Sgt

App injured. Out 4 to 6 weeks.

Matt

They’ve been working 24 hours a day on a new app, but will only release a top top top quality app, and in this market it’s very hard to do that. You need agreement from 3 parties. You need the people who want the app to want to pay for the app, you need the people who can make the app to agree to make the app, and you need the technology that is used to make the app to work properly. As soon as they are going to release the app, we’ll be the first people to know.

Pearson

That is exactly the same as buying a packet of cigarettes.
Wenger must get on with it, we are lucky to be able to put 11 men on the field after Saturday.
Up The Arsenal!

Witoldo

Maybe Kroenke and others are trying to do a “full Stalin.” “No, everything is going very well at the club. Look, in our last game, we beat the defending champions.” (The horrific season that was 2012-2013 is wiped out too.)

Xanthias

so happy that Gibbs is ok. With him, we could have probably won against Villa. In all fairness to Wenger, having two left backs injured + the emergency cover as well is not down to poor planning.

Witoldo

No, you are incorrect. He knew that Vermaelen would be out long-term and Monreal for the first few weeks. He also knows that Kieron Gibbs, whilst a superb player in my book, is one of the most injury-prone players on a team full of them. He needed covered at centre back and at left back and was does he do? He sends out Miquel on loan in mid-August (instead of waiting until, say, August 31) instead of keeping him around for cover. Would have bitten us in the arse had Gibbs and/or Sagna not passed fit. In fact, it could… Read more »

Xanthias

Miquel hardly featured on our team last year, and showed no signs of improvement. While we need cover at centreback, it would be make more sense to buy someone (like Micah Richards) who can play at right back. Also, Nacho is in the team for Fener: this means that Gibbs had to last uncovered just one game! Moreover, how can you say that Gibbs is injury prone and relate it to the match against Villa is beyond me: he was headbutted!

Denis Tiemo

In wenger we trust to turn the situation we in around

edan

This is just as annoying as people writing “WENGER OUT” everywhere.

What the hell has Wenger got to do with injuries subsiding?

AP

For one, he could play as a full back. Bould can take the other FB position. Atleast gibbs or sagna wont get injured.

Arsene Wenger's Antique Spitoon

BUY SOME PLAYERS WENGER!!!!!!! A MENTAL STRIKER PLZ. THANKS.

Adam, Watford

No nutcases, though, please.

However, a METAL striker, not some sort of panel beater or balcksmith, but one that is one made of titanium, for example, that would be great, given our injury record.
It’s like we are the footballing equivalent of Spinal Tap’s drummers !!!!

Rad Carrot

A mental striker?

What, like have Darren Brown levitate the ball above everyone’s heads and into the net?

Or do you mean a rabid dog type who goes around biting everything and everyone? Because we went for that guy, and apparently we need to spend more than £1 above £40m.

Pearson

Something like Ian Wright, a creature that eats barbed wire, drinks ammonia and exists only to score goals, something that needs to be kept in a cage on a stout chain when not involved in a game. Preferably not too effeminate like Carlos Tevez or Wayne Rooney

Arsene's stylist

No. We already have Bendtner to fill that space.

AP

Dont agree, Bendtner is a monuMENTAL striker.

BillyBatts

Sorry to hear Kieron hurt his gash

The fool of a Took

Well, thank fuck for that!

Fenerbache won´t push us around as Villa did, if we only could be more direct in our plays and stop fucking about, there is no way we´ll loose this over two games.

beNZed

Haha, yeah. They’re going to be real sweethearts. Some form of Turkish delight on a silver plate for us.

Something positive at last! May positive things now reign supreme! COYFG!

Ah, so we can almost field 18 first teamers in the match team again (no, we still can’t).

As a man who ruptured the same ACL twice,I cant help feeling for Diaby mired again in rehab horror.Id high five him if I could, with the caveat that his pelvis may shatter with the impact.A hug could be fatal.

The arsenal in me will not leave me alone, I was disgusted after saturday (non)performance and here I am today waiting eagerly for tomorrow to come. I cannot wait to see the look on the face of haters come middle of December when we will be topping the log after we might have qualified for the final of COC and ECL second round. COYG, we still have 35 more matches to play in EPL

Nah, we’ll win the title with two weeks to spare. 35 was in fact correct.

Can I just say: Arsene Wenger did not make Arsenal what it is, Arsenal was around long before Wenger and will be around long after Wenger, he is part of our story but certainly hasn’t made it. And say; in Wenger we trust to get us out of this mess – he is the twat that git us in to this mess, what makes anyone think he knows how to get us out of it? For years it has got progressively worse under his tenure; that doesn’t speak to me of someone who knows what he is doing let alone… Read more »

I’m sorry Kieran Gibbs’s what is injured?

LANS

This is really really good news. The result on the weekend was of course a massive disappointment. But the injuries picked up were really bad and far more worring than the result. Arsene has left things to the last minute and is rightly taking flak for that but come on guys, Arsene is many things but he’s not an idiot. There will be several signings before the window closes. To say a manager as experienced as him doesn’t know what he’s doing in the transfer market is plainly ridicious. It’s incredibly frustrating for us fans with transfers because we don’t… Read more »

Rad Carrot

Get behind the team? Sure. They’re a great bunch of players.

Get behind the manager? Nope.

He doesn’t know what he’s doing. If he did, then we wouldn’t have put in a bid for £4,000,001 and made ourselves look quite stupid, would we? Plus, any signings he makes now will be at a premium – expect us to pay several million over the valuation to get any of the mediocre players who are left.

Toby C

Of course we’ll get behind the team but the manager has lost it.

He thinks he’s still dealing with the football market of the late 90s when there were bargains to be had, when most teams were behind us in terms of our global scouting network.

I’d like to say I hope to be proved wrong but I can’t be because most of the good, available strikers have gone.

Is there still a chance we can rescue this season?

Jimmy Brain's brain

What, after one whole game??
Er, yes, I think there is a chance.

Rad Carrot

Don’t worry lads, normal service will be resumed shortly. They’re heading to Turkey, so expect at least two of our players to end up as a kebab. And not in that fun, sexy way either.

Go back to your homes. Continue the gloom.

Arsene's stylist

“two of our players to end up as a kebab. And not in that fun, sexy way either.”

Can you please elaborate on that? I am truly intrigued….

abbey

I believe we gonna go thru all this.Good to hear Gibbs,Rosicky,Sagna are in for tomorrow’s game, all we need is to believe that we will come out as favourites and I know we will have some new signings in d coming weeks…..I love arsenal so much…Kudos to you guys

KingHenry

still without arteta = still massively vulnerable defensively. We should have enough to beat fenerbache, although i can recall uttering a similar sentiment pre villa so im not going to laugh at sp*rs and looserpool funs until we qualify. COYG.

Wenger pls in Gods name sign players

Oz gooner

Several players back, and good news too.

Sadly, Wenger’s gone down again with a severely swollen ego.

He was last seen in the bathroom at the training ground trying to brush his hair with a fork, shouting at the mirror: “A comb! You show me where I can get a better comb than the one I’ve got! We’re out there day and night looking for one. I only want a top top top quality comb. Man City and Monaco have bought them all…”
And so on…

Merlin's Panini

Sagna really is the most double hard manly man ever. My neck would’ve snapped in two after that fall and he’s ok?

Tom Watt

Anyone know what happened to the Fans’ Forum show?

Brian Mendoza

Replaced by the Clock End show

Toby C

Sky have just said that the bid for Cabaye was not serious and only designed to placate arsenal fans.

How can a bid that has no chance of succeeding for a player we don’t particularly need placate us!!!

We’re not stupid Arsenal! Well, not that stupid anyway.

Arseblood

Injuries will be used for a lame performance on Weds night….70% fit, blah,blah…..players HAVE to play as there is nobody else.
One Eye Gibbs, Paraplegic Sagna, Hop-a-long Rosicky, Club Foot Ramsey….they shouldn’t be forced to play, risk further serious injury, all because of the clubs ineptitude this summer.

Dave Gooner

How about a bit of support?

Lets not issue the condemnations just yet.

Come on you Gunners – we are still a seriously class outfit.

Arsenal to win.

Witoldo

If I were a sportsman, I would have a very big competitive streak and would want to play in my team’s Champions League qualifier whatever the case. Gibbs’ and Sagna’s injuries shouldn’t affect their ability to play well. The leg-based injuries of Ramsey and Rosicky are a different story, I guess.

Pravin

Don’t mean to be negative, but it smacks to me that those who came away from the weekend’s game against Villa with niggling injuries are being patched up and sent back to the front. Its like “Oh you’ve got a blown off foot..well sorry, but that doesn’t mean you can’t kick the ball with the other foot. On you go son.”

I just hope we don’t get anymore long term absentees after Wednesday..we have too many of those as it is.
