Arsene Wenger has hailed Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud after their goals fired Arsenal to 3 points at Craven Cottage today.
The Frenchman opened the scoring in the first half, followed by two strikes from the German’s Hammeriffic left foot, and speaking to the media afterwards the Arsenal manager was quick to praise their efforts.
Speaking about Podolski he said, “I am pleased for him because he hasn’t started much recently more because of the balance of the team than his performances.
“I am pleased because he plays with a lot of spirit and he can score goals. Everybody in the squad loves Lukas and I want to keep him. When a player doesn’t play he is not happy and recently he did not always start but if you look at his and Giroud’s goalscoring record it’s very good.”
And Giroud, who got his third goal in as many games this season, also drew praise from his manager.
“His second season is always better than his first one. You could see as well technically today that he was quite impressive. His physical presence up front is very important and I think he looks like he’s much more confident than last year.”
Podolski had been linked with a move away from the club this week, with Schalke apparently interested, but Wenger ruled out any chance of him leaving the club.
On the evidence of today. that’s very much a good thing.

Podolski can be lazy at times…slows down our game occasionally….link up play just decent..but put him in a good position and he is fucking lethal
I can’t help thinking this may have a little to do with the fact that Poldi is a CF first and foremost. How would Giroud look if he played on the wing?

Giroud will score 20+ this season.poldi to score 15+.Theo will score 15+, Santi will score 10+, rest of the team will score 10+, now imagine adding another 2 attacking players who will together score 30+. That’d be a bucketload of goals. Do it Arsene!!!!

I always see people adding these goals per season figures up like simple arithmetic. Isn’t it obvious that things are never that simple?

I love Podolski. Was over the moon when we signed him last year finally. He’s got a great shot on him, you can tell via his Facebook and twitter updates that he’s a great guy and obviously good inside the dressing room. Can’t wait to see MOTD tonight to see his and Girouuuudddds goals. Two great players that I hope stay here for the foreseeable future. Well done lads

Now pls arsene please go get a defensive midfielder because it gave me heart attacks today when aaron goes forward. He is a great player no doubt about it but i dun think he has the disciplinr to stay back and cover the back four when the rest of the players go forward. And also a centre back. Giroud is looking lively and continuing his scoring form from the Asia tour. Podolski is a powerhouse and has a wicked left peg! Outstanding performance from all the players. It’d been a tough week for the manager,players and the fans. I’m sure everyone involved with Arsenal will be happy with the teams performance today.

I think the whole team played. Going forward we have so many options, it was just brilliant. I think this is due to cazrola playing just behind the striker.. Links up well with front 3 and midfield. I don’t think double pivot, although secure, suits our style.
Give Podolski a sniff and he won’t fuck around. The smaller pitch suited, him, too – less running, I guess? 😛
Benteke is better than both of them but also plays in a different style. He’s got plenty of goals+experience in the premier league, he’s DENCH and i’ve heard that he’s a gooner. Even though he’s just signed a new contract, cough up the cash and sign him before someone else does!!!!
I think Wenger needs to start playing Frimpong, if he’s planning on using him ass our dm. He’s got great potential if he overcomes his injury troubles and focuses on his game and he’ll have a great link with Jack since they were in the academy together. Tbh if he starts playing consistently and well and we sign Flamini back, we don’t really need a new dm. Unless you can get Pogba, he’s a fucking beast!

I’ve always been left a bit confused by Podolski’s lack of starts. Today only increases that confusion.

It’s players like Poldi that win u the league. Fantastic squad player that has excellent work ethic. Complains so little for a player of his quality, Can pull out a rabbit from his hat. Just love his camel smile.
