Wilshere and Walcott get England nod

As expected, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott have both been included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine.

Currently sitting two points behind Group H leaders Montenegro, the Three Lions desperately need to secure six points from the September double-header if they are to boost their chances of playing in Brazil next summer.

Arsene Wenger has already called on the England set-up to save Wilshere for the game with Ukraine on 10 September recognising that they should be able to overcome Moldova at Wembley without the Arsenal man.

“We have a good connection with the medical department. They know him well. Who are England’s next two games? That’s the key. So don’t play him against Moldova,” he told press ahead of this evening’s clash with Fenerbahce.

Following a similar warning about Jack’s fitness on the eve of the new season Roy Hodgson opted to only play Wilshere for 45 minutes against Scotland. It remains to be seen whether he heeds the call this time around…

Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson were not selected while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains sidelined with a knee injury which will likely also keep him out of October’s games with Montenegro and Poland.

Chris Smalling and Kyle Walker picked over Jenkinson, do me a favour…

Benis

And Smalling without playing a minute this season. Most certainly the defender with the fewest errors in the league.

Good Lord, it’s almost as if international managers listen to AW’s comments and requests, and do the complete opposite. And it’s always with our more fragile players.

Darren

Hopefully Hodgson continues to leave Jenkinson and Gibbs out. It’s better if they’re rested.

Aamir

Can’t players refuse to play for their national teams?

DoctorSatan

Only if they are playing for Manchester United.

And in any case, I don’t think Wilshere will willingly dent his chances of becoming captain in a few years.

NCGunner

By the time the next interlull hits we will have a deeper squad by miles with bags of quality.

Right?

Still no Jenkinson and Gibbs? Lemme guess, grandpa Cole will start for England in the WC, Gerrard and Lampard starting, and Terry will come back from his retirement. And Glen Johnson will play RB

Knockout round good bye

Garyneville Shagshismum

Lampard is still class. And look at how our players who played at the Confederations Cup came back. All fucked up after a long season. The fewer that go there, the better.

not a proffesional footballer

Confederation Cup and World Cup are different by a long mile. One is a real cup, the other is not

Garyneville Shagshismum

Well, if they can’t get through the Joke Cup, how will they cope with the real deal?

Only1Arsenal

Aamir no footballer would ever refuse to represent their country.

shannon

Carlos Villa did but Wilshere wants to play and is going to play for the National team.

arsesicky

Ivan Drago

Pretty sure Stephen Ireland did

gee

yeah he gave a blag about his grandma dying or something- foolio

TexasGooner6

Stephen Ireland is a mental midget. Better for Ireland that he was not strong enough emotionally to take criticism.
