Per Mertesacker has praised Wojciech Szczesny for his performance at Crystal Palace after the Polish goalkeeper produced two fine saves to help Arsenal seal another three points on the road.
The 23-year-old picked up the Barclays Man of the Match award after tipping a Joel Ward effort onto the bar and keeping out Mile Jedinek’s swerving volley as the Gunners ran out 2-0 victors despite a late barrage from the home side.
Speaking after the game about the exploits of the club’s glove butler, Mertesacker remarked that usually the Pole isn’t needed but on this occasion saved his teammates.
“We had a decent goalkeeper, he saved three times when they were in a decent position,” the BFG told Arsenal Player.
“We do not need the goalkeeper that much, but in those situations we do need him desperately. He did a good job, but the whole team did – and that is his job, to save us sometimes.”
Quite the back handed compliment from Per, who presumably fancies himself as a rush keeper of some sort. Anyway, props to Szczesny he’s been tip-top so far this season. Still can’t rap though.
Best keeper in Prem..oh no, sorry, I forgot, …Joe Hart is *cough*
To win a league you need a decent keeper that can essentially win you 9 points or more over the season. I’d say chalk up 3 points to Szcz for Saturday. We’ll need him and the rest at their best for next Saturday!!
and as we saw yesterday a “bad” keep can also cost you a lot of points. Damn you Hart that would have been a nice result for us!
Szczesny is fucking mint.
Lol BFG doesnt beat around the bush does he?
You heard him Szczesny ….save us!
Imagine a situation when AW used the three subs and Szczes gets a red care! Who’s the best first team player to stand between the sticks and save our asses? Opinions?
Bring back Kolo Toure!
Sagna. No doubt. Would probably be our best striker if our backs were up the wall like that. He pretty enters the Avatar State when we’re a man down protecting a one-goal lead
Sagna must not be allowed to leave!
sagna, on account of being awesome everywhere
Özil. He can do everything.
HFB ..!
The opponent striker can’t score then.. he would just stand there drooling!
Ramsey!
According to me szczesny is getting less and less match experience.. due to our defence playing so well ( except in some matches) he has to just stand at the goalpost and watch our midfieldrs and forwards play the game.
Even then great goalkeeping against palace with so less match practice….great..
You’re wrong.
Hope that helps.
Actually, Adrian Clarke has pointed out that two of the busiest goalkeepers in the PL are, surprisingly perhaps, Szczesny and Mignolet. Should make for an interesting game this weekend…
Glad to see the MOTD pundits have the nerve to correctly blame Hart for that mix-up at the back yesterday. It was cringeworthy to hear the match commentator try and put the blame on Nastasic. Wonder if Owen would still take Hart over Scezesny now..
He would still take Hart, like all bad pundits they never admit when there wrong.Look at Souness still doesn’t rate Ramsey.
I’d put my money on Kos. He’s big and strong and aggressive going after the ball, but unlike Per, he’s also very quick.
The Polish gk could be peaking. He saved the gunners against Palace,
Sterner tests await. Hansen says the gunners are vulnerable especially without Flamini.
Wenger needs another guy who will break up enemy attacks and who will not fear to go
where it hurts.
I was going to give a proper counter-argument, but its easier to say Hansen talks nothing but bollocks. and leave it here.
While Hart had a bad day yesterday, think of this poor German keeper!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtBWefg5md0&feature=youtu.be
So far this season Szczesny has shown the good and bad sides to his game. He is an excellent shot-stopper who can pull off great reaction saves like the ones on Saturday. But the rest of his game is poor: I’ve lost count of the number of times that he has come for crosses and missed them; and his judgement as to when to come out the area or stay isn’t too good either. I would still like to see another top keeper at the club to give him some competition. But Szczesny is still a better keeper than Hart,… Read more »
Nowadays I dont even read this guys posts. Just hit thumbsdown.
Good advice.
that criticism could and was leveled against him in years past but you clearly don’t follow enough football if you think his handling of crosses this season has been bad. Arsene Wenger after the Swansea match came out and said directly that his biggest improvement this season was his command of the box and crosses. I’m getting really sick of this kind of commentary that everyone keeps making, criticizing this Arsenal team for faults that we had in seasons past and conveniently ignoring our performance this season because no one wants us to win the title and criticizing Arsenal is… Read more »
I guessing the only reason this twerp hasn’t been banned is the entertainment value of his hilariously uninformed and ignorant posts? I have to admit I do read them, and I get a pretty good laugh every time.
Maybe Bendtner can be a good one.
He is very talented at hitting a ball out of pitch.
Giroud. He was already practicing on the weekend – http://i.minus.com/iZRRkiDyVH9mR.gif (via Andrew allen’s twitter)

*thumbs up for Szczezny, he was awesome for us on saturday.
Nope, just thumbs down for you for not knowing what the hell that is supposed to be.
