Wenger hails relentless Giroud

Arsene Wenger has praised his in-form striker, Olivier Giroud, saying the Frenchman’s desire to improve is a key quality in his recent performances.

Despite having a difficult day against Crystal Palace at times, Giroud started and ended the move which led to Arsenal’s second goal. He held it up in midfield, then charged forward to get on the end of Aaron Ramsey’s chip.

And Wenger believes Giroud’s desire to keep going, even so late in the game, is one of his best attributes.

“That is what makes him great,” he said. “He missed some chances but always got the support of our fans because he shows he is ready for a fight. The fact that he kept going got him a goal.

“How much has he improved? I don’t know. But he has. That’s obvious to everybody. If he keeps working like that then he will improve again. I like his spirit.”

We also like his spirit. And his improved finishing. And assisting.

And his beautiful face. Which looks a little less beautiful when he’s celebrating a goal but come on, he’s no Phil Jones.

If anyone saw giroud after scoring you’ll know he really works hard for the team. he had to stop for a minute just to catch his breath after doing ever so well to get on the end of ramseys cross. we would be lost without this beautiful imposing forward in the team atm…

He kissed the badge btw at palace and told off a united fan over the week. Can i have him now?

Sean

I recently daydreamed that I was at a live FIFA 14 tournament competing against the best in the world.. and I paused to decide which of my Arsenal kits I’d be wearing. And while Giroud is only one of my top 3 favorite players, I could just imagine him being the guy that would phone a fan to go partying with him for wearing his jersey at a FIFA tournament.

journeyman

I’d be sorry to see another striker take his place come January

He fought tooth and nail alright…the catharsis after bashing in that goal…simply stunning!!

Nigerian_Gooner

We need another striker. preferably a striker who can play on the wing so we don’t loose what Giroud brings to the team.

the only sam is nelson

like Lukas Podolski, you mean? Or Theo Walcott?

Apostolos

Good to see that most now see Giroud as our #1 striker. If we get another striker I agree I hope Its someone that can just as easily play on the wing with Giroud as well as for him on occasion to give him a breather (Someone like Abel Hernandez;Palermo /Luis Muriel; Udinese)

masterofthegoonaverse

LOSE, NOT LOOSE, God that annoys me.

Edu's fake passport

English isn’t everyone’s first language here, so why criticize

Syed

Agreed! He just needs a support striker to play alongside him, someone like Rooney/ Suarez.

bob

ozil can do that job as well as anyone.

Arsenal's Gattuso

You can really see the passion on his face when scored reminded me of Fabregas’ goal against the Spuds with that solo run then the expression on his face, that’s a legend right there. Apparently Joel Campbell got 4 assists last night really surprising he didn’t go to an English club this season. Would have been a great backup to Giroud.

journeyman

Joel Campbell could be the love child of Özil and Henry the way he’s been performing…massive potential that kid!!

Another Yank

Yeah but the only problem is that Joel Campbell is a diving cunt. People like him don’t need to be anywhere near the first team.

arsesicky

true story, his dive for costa rica was blatant gamesmanship and got someone on the US team sent off (there was literally zero contact and joel was rolling around on the floor as if he’d been shawcrossed).

TOGooner

Arsene will get Per to beat it out of him once he joins the first team. Santi dove once last season. Theo the season before (where he weirdly admitted to popping his diving cherry with some exuberance). Don’t remember either diving since. I do like how at Arsenal things like these are taken care of quietly in-house. Lots of managers boast about class and history. Brendan Rogers is a prime example. Uses phrases like ‘Liverpool Way’, how one needs to be deserving of the club, but only when it plays in his favour, like the Suarez saga. But then you… Read more »

I think maybe a little bit his attitude is rubbing off on Saint Nick.

I wouldn’t bet that that’s all the rubbing off going on, either.

Random comment

He could do with some back up in January to ease the burden but he seems to be coping with it so far

hieuving

wish he will get more through balls from the OZ 😉

Wa

Hahahahaha. Brilliantly finnished off with phil jones! So glad I wasnt eating.

Richard

Saturday was not the best game he has had in the season so far. But he kept trying and didn’t stop working for the team. I still feel we need another striker a Defoe or Suarez type so we give opposition something different to think about, however Giroud should be our number 1 he has earnt that right

bystander

A Defoe type? We need a Defoe type like we need Giroud to get a hernia.

Fuck you man utd

i love olivier

Wenger Banger

Oh put this beautiful man on the undie ads already

akkimaniac

Work it. Make it. Do it. Makes us Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. 😀

BigArseneFan

For such a handsome bloke, i find his sprinting a bit funny, specially when he is chasing a through ball.. maybe its just because my eyes are always glued to him when he’s playing, and i am noticing every single thing he is doing! haha.
such an asset and a real team player!

Arsene McCloud

Poldi, Theo and Giround.
Now that would be devastating.

samba

I’m waiting for Nicky to score from open play and can be the target man covering HFB when rested.

VT

To me the HFB is a more complete footballer than “just another classic CF”. Prior to this season you can tell from his attempted passes and link-up play that he has exceptional vision. I do think that his improvements come from his willingness to contribute to team play, and a better execution.

That cross for Ozil to score his first headed goal was sublime to say the least, and he has one of the most underrated left foot in the league, I’d reckon.

Adam Richards

I doubt there is an Arsenal fan or woman in the country that doesn’t love le Giroud, but signing another striker in Jan is an absolute must and even has Giroud agreed another striker is needed. What Giroud has done over the past 6 months has saved us 15-20 million pounds on that strikers fee however. Giroud should be no. 1 and we do not need a Suarez or a Rooney to fuck with the current dynamic of the team. But god forbid Giroud gets injured or sent off, it has happened, we need a quality replacement. It will also… Read more »

That man has ruined my day. If anyone sees him on the terraces slap him.

gunsen gunner

Poldi Giroud Walcott

That would be a devastating front three especially with Ozil and Rambo supporting them. I remember a stat from last season that that front three only played together 4-5 times. That’s incredible really.

jack jack jack

There would be so many goals. Goals on goals. Too many goals if anything.

Danny

We should sign Falcao. Then we’ll be CL contenders, as well as PL contenders.

arsepedant

That may well be my favourite website of all time.

paul ohio

We are seeing best of Giroud Because the full team are in great form. So guys don;t get carry way with his freckly displace ,We need a world class striker to back him up.

Alex X

Even when he was missing some chances last year I loved the guy, heart if a lion. He’s getting so much better service this season too with Ramsey’s awakening (that ball was a thing of fucking art) and Ozil. Ollie will fight for us until he’d drop dead on the pitch. Such a huge difference to have true fighters and rid of the deadwood slackers.

Hutch

Cracked me up that Phil Jones picture.

Keep up the good work Mr Blogs.

I need help with this dilemma: It’s the last game of the season. We play Man U at Old Trafford. The score is tied. In the final minute of the game Man U is awarded a free kick. If they score they will win the league. If they miss we will win it. The cunt takes it. It is headed towards goal with no chance for Szczesny. The only thing to stop it is Giroud’s neatly chiseled, well groomed, drop dead handsome face. The thing is, if it hits Giroud’s face it will be smashed and forever look like the… Read more »

Really elated for Giroud. A late bloomer. Proves to you anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

He’s developing into France’s number one option and a world class striker. Intelligent play up front and nice touches.

That said, still think we could do with someone slightly different up top on occassion. a bit of speed on the apex might help in a counter attacking mold.

Think Podolski will be an interesting option if he works with Ozil in tandem.

Otherwise market looks tight in January unless Madrid go on one of their famous buying sprees again.
