Aaron Ramsey says Arsenal need to learn from their defeat to Borussia Dortmund and admitted he’s disappointed by his role in the German side’s opening goal.
Despite controlling play in the second half, the Gunners were downed on the break by a late Robert Lewandowski strike on the road to their first defeat since the visit of Aston Villa on the first day of the season.
Speaking to Arsenal Player about the sucker punch strike the Welshman, echoing Arsene Wenger’s criticism, conceded the Gunners had paid the price for switching off.
“I felt like we were in control of the game but then we switched off for 30 seconds, we were in their box and 30 seconds later the ball is in the back of our net.
“I was disappointed as well with the way they scored their first goal, I got caught on the ball and that was disappointing. We were a bit slow to start but I thought after about 25 minutes we got into the game, we got our goal and then we took that into the second half.
“We were in control of the game, we didn’t look like we were going to concede, but then we did. That’s what happens [when you switch off].
“We showed good character getting back into game… and we created a few chances in the second half and hit the bar. On another night we may have taken the lead but we have to learn from the way we defended for the second goal.”
Arseblog News feels like it’s taken one for the team by listening to Ramsey’s interview on your behalf. The boy, for all his newfound footballing qualities, really does put the dull in dulcet tones.
We dare say he has the most boring voice in the world…well perhaps second most boring…ok third most boring voice.
This was just a reminder to the earthlings that we are also from this planet. long overdue tbh…..haha….
The Irish Politician sounds like a polite Darth Vader, suffering from a throat infection.
Sagna was at fault for that 2nd goal. He hit a poor cross up the other end after passing up the better option of playing it short inside to Ramsey. And at the other end Lewandowski ultimately ran into the space vacated by Bacary. That said though we do expect an awful lot from our full-backs. Grosskreutz broke free unchecked numerous times down their rhs. Sagna and Gibbs need more protection at times, for that reason I think we missed Flamini alot. Still though, feeling positive because we were turning the screw up until their winner and this Dortmund side… Read more »
I agree with most of what you said, but blaming only Sagna seems a bit harsh to me. A goal conceded is mostly the result of multiple errors, and I think that was very much the case with Lewandowski’s goal yesterday.
Yeah I don’t like singling players out but Sagna’s incorrect decision up their end was frustrating. I don’t mind that he was so far out of position when Lewa finished but in games like this margins are that tight that you can’t afford to make the wrong pass, and having made the decision to cross he should have put in a better ball imo. Some people have singled out Gibbs for the goal which is harsh on the lad because he was left in an impossible 2 v 1 situation. Aside from that, it was a great counter-attacking goal –… Read more »
It was a difficult situation, but if you watch it he did the one thing he shouldn’t have done, which was get caught in two minds. He saw that there was a player overlapping, which meant he either had to get really tight to the man with the ball, or else go with the runner, and he probably should’ve done the latter. Santi actually tracked back very quickly, and if Gibbs had dealt with Grosskreutz’s run better he could’ve just marked him out of the game, and then turned his attention to Aubameyang with Santi. However it was an understandable… Read more »
it was just a great counter attack to be honest, our whole defense was left all over the shop. fair enough Sagna shouldve done better with the cross, but i had noticed both fullbacks were giving their wingers a lot of space during the entire game. when Blaszczykowski came off, i was thankful he wasnt finding the quality of pass, cus Gibbs was giving him far too much room.. but of course Klopp fixed that and the sub put it on a plate for Lewandowski. Shame as I think we were the better side but just not clinical enough. the… Read more »
thats what happens when you play central attacking mids out wide. empty flanks. drilling them to stay on the wings reduces their effectiveness. you can’t say to ozil or wilshire or santi ‘hug the touchline all night’
nobody puts baby in a corner.
should have been arteta/ramsey and flamini behind santi, rosicky, ozil. we’ll do better in germany.
Fuck yes! Rambo is learning the Bouldy death-stare
He will be utterly unbeatable once that’s in his locker
Michael Owen. Now that is one monotonous cunt.
Apart from missing Flamini ‘The Flame’ in the middle of the park ….. The Gunners missed their fluid tiki-taka touches and their accuracy up front!
Their defensive area should have been better.
Notwithstanding their defeat they are still a side that has the potential of winning classy games…this has to be proven in the weeks that follow and their CLs away games!!
They have the grit and composure and I for one know they can and will be up there!! ….. to achieve some trophies this season.
The coming of the injured players will see Arsenal at their best!!
We gave Dortmund too many space and respect and didnt realise we match them but the return will be more pulsating!!!
@wizardofozil…sagna was not at fault for the 2nd goal. It is not a time for blaming individuals. If you want to, then blame Özil. He was in a better position that Sagna defensively but refused to track back. It is only fair if your full back roams up field to help you that you also assist him defensively.
THAT Santi shot!! Wish that had gone in!
Also THAT Rosicky shot, blocked on the line by someone who wouldn’t be there 99 times out of 100. And THAT Ramsey goal, disallowed because of a phantom foul that I still haven’t managed to find on numerous replays.
Ramsey does look like he is being told off by Bould or called a bellend
YES let’s be Positive and put our trust in Wenger and his team!!
He is in the Michael Owen league of boring banter, but frankly I’d take a dull as dishwater pro over an ill disciplined party boy any day of the week.
He’s 22, and he’s obviously super down about the result, no doubt partially because of his role in the first goal. Perhaps cut him some fucking slack?? What were you doing at 22?
Honestly, as much as i like ramsey, he doesn’t have the positional discipline defensively. He is sometimes too eager to attack. Basically, that was what cost us last night.
Unlike last season when, along with Arteta, he was one of the reasons for our strong defensive record in second half of the season?
How the hell does he have some of the best defensive stats as a midfielder in the league then??
This is when we are going to know the die hard fans from the fair weather ones. I heard a lot of fans started leaving the stadium after they scored the second goal. Very shameful.
Anyway, this team will be back and we ll make it out of this ” group of death”.
@WizardofOzil watch the replay. When sagna hits the cross he is 20 yards further up the pitch than Ozil. He tells Ozil to get back to cover for him (as he is knackered and ozil is in a better starting position to get back). Ozil walks back, leaving sagna exposed.
WENGA SELL DIS PLAYA HE MADE US LOOSE
I would say 4th most boring voice – you’re forgetting Michael Owen.
I’m sorry but you can’t beat this…

Hes gotta be wayyyyyy behind listening to phil Collins voice Blogs right 🙂
Damn it Blogs you just made me spend the last half hour watching Father Ted clips. Go on go on go on. Arse feck girls!
Would players learn from this? Not likely. How many times we heard something similar…if not from ramsey, then wilshere, djournou (still remember DJ?). Point is wenger sent them out with few tactical instructions -his own admission- and when things didn’t go well, wenger hardly yelled from the tech area except flapping his hands? If he wasn’t comfortable both RBs playing like wingers and CBs pushing to half way line in the last 10 mins and want us shut up shop, wenger could have easily yelled or asked Bould to do so. He chose to let it happen thw way it… Read more »
