Despite admitting that he thinks Arsenal are the best team in the group, Marseille boss Élie Baup says he’s targetting his side’s first points of their Champions League campaign in tonight’s encounter.
The French team have yet to take a single point from any of their European fixtures this season, but Baup says that’s not a record they want to continue.
“We do not want to end up with no points,” he said. “We need to put in our best possible performances in the final two games of the group. In terms of the table and the points then obviously things are not going particularly well, but it is up to everyone to put in a good performance.
“We are a group that has a lot of experienced players, but also a lot of young players who are just discovering the Champions League. This experience will help their development.
“We have always tried to play our game and be at the right level against teams that are better than us from the start. As soon as you heard the draw, of course, everybody put us as fourth in the group.”
The Marseille boss was also full of praise for tonight’s opponents.
“In my mind Arsenal are a team that have both ability and are also very balanced. They can manage difficult spells in the game and when they are having a good spell they can be decisive.
“The proof is already there in terms of the league – I think they are the best team in our group and there is no problem for them in the UEFA Champions League. They have very good attacking quality. They also have great technical players and a great spirit within the team.”
Of course you can get points…against Dortmund.
I’m not sure why they want the points for, but it’s a good sign as we’ve got to find a way to avoid complacency — something which have haunted us in recent times.
We need the 3 points more than they do (although even on 12 points we might not have secured qualification), but here we go! COYG!
Bit of pride? A wins a win, they are coming out of a pretty dire run, beating a name like Arsenal puts a lot of beleif in your side.
Remember what the Bayern result did for us.
“….they are the best team in our group” bleh bleh bleh. Hmm this dude wants to pull a ‘Klopp’ on us. I say we Blast them out of the water!! No mercy!
FINISH THEM!!

Hey Frenchy. Get em somewhere else. Their ALL ours!
What a gent
They gave Napoli a run for their money. Not to a walkover by any means.
And to be honest in our first meeting, we had two chances and scored two goals. Could of ended up losing a couple of points there if we weren’t so deliciously effective
Indeed, they looked a decent side when we met and it’s a surprise that they haven’t got any points yet.
Hopefully they still won’t have any by the end of the night.
am afraid you have to look elsewhere for those points you talking about
this could potentially be a very difficult game. need everybody sharp for this one!
Want to see viviano in action. 🙂 anyways let’s gun down marseille. Coyg
I fooking love the champions league!
Would love to see Theo come on late in the second half and get on the end of a few Ozil passes. Maybe get a goal or two. Oh if Ramsey could score his flick that would even better to watch
Think we will win but by a tight margin 2 – 1 to the Arsenal or 1 – 0
Immense respect for Baup, very good manager- nice to hear him complement us. Still he can look elsewhere for those points, they’re absolutely vital to us.
Last time we played I remember thinking that Marseille looked capable of taking some points off our rivals. It hasn’t worked out that way so far, but they’re dangerous and there can be no room for complacency.
We need a big performance tonight they’re no walkovers!!
These are not the points you’re looking for
I just want to see the Arsenal play. Any discussion of outcomes in terms of points/trophies is secondary to me.
seconded. The primary reason i m an arsenal fan is because i like to watch beatiful fotball. Of course, i woud want us to win, but i am against the over-obsession some of the fans have with points and trophies. And that is the reason i could never support a team like chelsea or city.
If you were born 10 years earlier you would not be supporting Arsenal.
I envy you.
I just love winning and feel like shit when we lose.
Baup sounds like a gooner.
It seems a lot of people are these days (except Mourinho, of course). I wonder why that is?
anyone has any news about marseille leaving key players behind?
Don’t worry Gooners, we’ll piss it!! Easy…UTA
Excellent spirit old chap!
Enjoy taking your three points next week off of Dortmund. Tonight, you are getting fucking smashed.
Bring it.
Off topic but for those that don’t own it, Stillness and Speed: My Story is part of Amazon.co.uk’s Black Friday and will be on offer at 7pm. Thought I’d let you know….
Beaten in our first game
They said a title will never be claimed
We beat Spurs 1 nil
Then signed Ozil
Its funny how football can change!
Am off to Emirates now, hope it’s not too freezing and the boys keep us warm by scoring lots of goals. I feel like we’re gonna destroy them tonight.
COYG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
