Olivier Giroud admits he needs to start scoring again having not bagged a goal in over a month.
The French striker last found the net with a brace against Southampton back on 23 November but having gone seven games without a goal he recognises that he needs to finding his shooting boots as soon as possible.
“It is, to be honest, a bit of a pain for a striker who is not scoring, not finding the net,” Giroud told Canal+ (translation by The Mirror)
“On the whole there is a lack of efficiency, success and a little luck, where you are not quite in the right place at the right time.”
Positive that he’s still an important part of the team and the only member of the squad who has proved capable of holding up the ball in the final third, Giroud continued:
“For me things were fairly good early in the season”, the Frenchman continued.
“I am trying to concentrate on my work and not have doubt in such periods.
“As a month, I know I’ve had worse. I know my qualities and I know [the goals] will come back very quickly.
“As long as the team win and we’re playing good football, I have to appreciate such situations and that is also very important.”
It remains to be seen whether Giroud is afforded a breather in the coming weeks. Given Newcastle’s form it would be difficult to drop him today but it’s possible the games against Cardiff and Sp*rs will see the likes of Podolski and Bendtner given opportunities from the get go.
There’s not an Arsenal fan in the world who didn’t recognise that fatigue would play a part in Giroud’s season given the lack of back-up, in truth he’s done pretty well to hold things together right up until the cusp of the January window.
Giroud has given his all in recent months, now it’s our turn to do good for ourselves by buying a effective striker.
I’d be surprised if the stuborn professor splashes the cash in this window.

To be honest id rather bendtner upfront then poldi. Poldi is far more effective out wide & to be fair I think bendtners hold up play is better.
Finally, yes. Podolski’s best position is on the left wing, or behind the striker.
Oh b/s poldi is effective from the middle his goal the other day came from a centre position. he will harras the defenders left to right and when a scoring chance presents itself he will show the clinical edge that giroud lacks.
Bendtner cannot play 90mins without being a lazy waste of space. He can only be effective ss a sub and judging by te disinterested cameo he gave a WHU thank fuck its January…ship him!
But wenger knew this before the start of the season and failed to solve it, I still maintain my ground on our transfer business last summer “it was pretty average” only the signing of ozil prevented some annoyed gunners from venting their anger on wenger. I honestly doubt Wenger will buy a striker in January. Look at the team we have now, the reason giroud had to play virtually every game was because podolski and Walcott were out. Think of the bench when Rambo ox and kos are back in, if we buy a world class striker, who on the bench do you think will be sacrificed?
