Robert Pires says Julian Draxler would fit Arsenal’s football philosophy perfectly as speculation continues to mount that the Gunners might try and steal the German international from Schalke before the end of the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old is understood to have a buyout clause set at €45 million and although Arsene Wenger has played down suggestions that a deal is on the cards, ex-Gunner Pires gave the move his full backing.
“Draxler is a good player, young and with a lot of potential,” he told German site Spox.com today.
“Whenever I see him play, I always think his style of play would be a perfect fit for Arsenal.”
“I can well imagine Draxler being used on the left, but also as number 9, he could really strengthen the team.”
Pires also touched on recent comments by Arsene Wenger in which his old boss compared his influence and talent with the club’s record signing Mesut Ozil.
“It’s a huge honour that I am spoken in the same breath as Mesut. He plays for the German national team, he’s played for Real Madrid.
“That such a great player has chosen us, brings great confidence to the club…especially to the younger players who gain security from him. In his position as a playmaker he’s the best in the world.”

I for one think EDM goes well with these scout profiling videos. Maybe that’s just because I’m a raver in my early 20s.
And it works really well with ScoutNation’s other videos. I’d say he’s the best go-to channel to see some of the best footages of young players. I think he covered Crowley and Sanogo really well.

As nice as all this Draxler talk is… if this was someone like Barca coming after one of our players in this way, we’d be fucking furious. In my opinion the club should try and put a stop to players (former and current) talking so openly about this stuff… makes us seem a little classless.
Thing is no Arsenal player is actually saying how Draxler has Arsenal DNA or some bs like that. Media speculation is unstoppable and outside of club’s control unless we are intentionally feeding things to the papers to unsettle the player. (I doubt we are doing that.)

which parallel universe do you inhabit? Former players are continually asked to give their professional opinions. Current players are continually poked and prodded and asked the same question in a dozen different ways until they give a response. The media then says “Arsenal player claims…”, “Arsenal player rages…”, “Arsenal player mocks…”, etc
Its the media game dude. Get used to it and thank your pretty pink panties that we are not on the “tapping-up” receiving end this time.

I actually wholeheartedly agree with ‘mildly amusing name.’ the problem is we can’t stop anyone from answering questions others than telling our current players to keep mum. even with our current players, they are only saying he’s a good player and would welcome him IF he came. nothing like Barca players stating things like “crack needs to come home…this is his home, he belongs here….I know Cesc wants to be here.” as well, lets put a Barca shirt on him while he’s still an arsenal player.

I really don’t get why some people struggle with this and continue the ‘we are just as bad’ mentality. There is a HUGE difference between an Arsenal player or legend talking to the media and giving a generic response on Draxler such as ‘he would be a good fit in this Arsenal team’ to that of daily stories about how ‘Arsenal is Draxler’s home’, ‘Draxler has Arsenal DNA’ and ‘let’s pin Draxler down and put an Arsenal shirt on him after he has just won an international tournament with 600 million people watching’. Arsenal still need a game changer… A player so unpredictable he can produce moments out of nothing.. The closest thing we have to a game changer player is Ramsey.. Ozil was never going to be the player that controls a game for 90 minutes… His style is anonymous and elusive, popping up in dangerous areas to deliver the killer ball… Draxler looks like he’s capable of beating players off the dribble, shooting from distance, showing composure and a player that will offer something different to the passing game… However, he is still young and definitely not worth £37M.
