Great performance from the lads, sexy football. Just hope the injuries clear up now.

Bergkamp fan

Especially from Sagna, he has a rating of 68.55 on my screen at the moment.
Perhaps it’s since he played at 3 positions.

And yeah, I’m not joking

Hopefully people now see why Wenger opts to leave poldi out of his starting line up. He is a talent no doubt but he drifts out of games completely at times and you wonder if hes even on the pitch. This usually happens around the 65th -70th minute which coincidentally is about the time Wenger usually pulls him off. He’s got a ridiculous left foot no doubt but you cant help but feel he can offer so much more than those thunderbolts every now and again.

That said im glad he got a full 90 today.

GoonaDownUnder

I would have poldi in the team for 60-70 minutes every game if it means he pulls off some of the goals we see.

He almost scored in the first half, don’t forget. I agree he disappeared in the 3rd quarter of the game, but that’s always a chance to bring on fresh legs down that left hand side (Ox or Gnabry would’ve been good to see today with their direct running late on against a bewildered Sunderland defence).

Clock End Mike

When did Poldi last get 90 minutes on the field? Anyone remember? Ever?

Dave Gooner

Excellent point. He’s not a tap, to be turned on and off at wide intervals.

As for OG, at least we have a striker for tier 2 opposition sorted – now all we need ios someone who can score against cannier opposition – and Giroud is definitely NOT that man.

Rocky Rocastle

Poldi have not got the chance to establish himself in the team. Giroud can play 10 bad games in a row and still be picked in the first XI. Same with Cazorla, he gets more slack than Poldi to before he is Even considerex dropped from the team. Poldi on the other hand have scored more goals than any other in Arsenal if you consider minutes played. And he is top 3 clinical finisher in the league when you look at % og chances that result in a goal. And it seems he would have to average a perfect 10… Read more »

Ozil is world class. It is not for no reason that the Real Madrid fans were furious when news broke of Ozil’s exit. He is THAT good. He needs maybe a season to settle in to a completely new country, new style of play, greater physicality and higher tempo. Not saying anything against Arsenal, but he was spoiled for choice at Real Madrid when it came to setting up assists. He had the likes of Ronaldo, Benzema and Di Maria. All world class players making darting runs forward all the time. Our best players, Walcott and Ramsey are currently out… Read more »

GoonaDownUnder

I completely agree with everything you have just said. People are too quick to forget his through balls for the quick guys, when they are on the field – Look back just one week to the Liverpool game. That ball for the Ox to then setup Poldi was brilliant and he needs those quick guys running on. With Walcott out it makes it much harder and with Ramsey not making those runs from deep, he has little amount of outlets to actually execute those piercing balls. Also, thats another reason the Ox would work well regularly as CM with Ozil… Read more »

Gunner From Another Mother

I think he will be a goal scorer once he believes he can be, or wants to be. Whichever may be the case. How many times has he opted not to shoot from a beautiful position and instead tries a last second pass? He finds himself in the positions. He just needs to start pulling the trigger.

lollo

Yes hes a good player, but a season to settle into the premier league doesn’t sit well with me . after all he was a better player at the start of the season than he is now . and please don’t give me the tired thing ! this is a player from real madrid and a german international . he hit the ground running and then got steadily worse . there’s something going on we don’t know about

ZDR

So… it’s more likely that “there’s something going on we don’t know about” than player hits ground running, then gets fatigued as season goes on, and loses key supporting cast to injury?

I prefer the simple and convincing explanation than the obscure and conspiratorial…sorry buddy.

SFGiants

That’s been two stunning goals from the Little Mozart this season!

Goonstein

Feels good to see them killing a game off that early. Solid trough and through.

COYG!!

Sanjeev

Yeah, good (and a few great) performances all around. Hope the injured lads come through with nothing major.

Special mention for Giroud. As Blogs has said, we need him to lead the line as the top striker, and this was a great “comeback” game for him. Also, I thought his second is not getting much credit due to the error. That was a tight angle, and he still had to beat the ‘keeper. Clever finish.

That third goal — worthy of Bergkamp’s presence.

Dave Gooner

This was Tier 2 opposition. Giroud has proved time after time that he simply can’t score against the big boys, and that is where we are failing.

Giroud is not good enough to lead the Arsenal line, and 2 goals against a poor Sunderland team with their minds on Wembley next week does not change a thing.

Thumb it down all you want, it doesn’t make it any less true.

GunnerJake

What a goal.

RobSchneiderDerp

“How dare you rate Ozil a 0 out of 10! He didn’t even play! Arsenal fans are so fickle!” Says the person on the internet who doesn’t understand great sarcasm.

RobSchneiderDerp

The post below me is rather ironic.

Gary Ozil

It’s annoying and disappointing that Mesut Ozil doesn’t seem to have been at the game, but please please please let’s not blow it out of proportion. Why so many of our fans are intent on taking chunks out of our £42.5m signing is beyond me.

gunnergav

he was there! he just posted a photo on his facebook page

Arsenal Till I die

Actually he was at the Emirates, check his facebook fan page.

Smudger

He was incredibly poor today. Almost slipped from his seat at one point and also dropped part of his hotdog in the second half. Beginning to wonder if we’ve wasted 42.5m.

Arteta's hair

Koscielny. What a man.

ArsenalFan

And one player Arsenal must do utmost to keep next season.. He has become an absolute beast like Kompany (or better) and loads of teams are noting it.. Expect a bid from Bayern esp – It is no secret Pep isn’t too happy with Boateng.. And what is with Jack always going down injured at some later stage of a match and not coming off? This is becoming a annoying problem in the 2nd half.. There was a time when Sunderland had the ball in our half and Jack was neither down signaling nor up but just “looking” injured.. Baffling… Read more »

LANS

the first league match all season that didn’t give me some kind of heart problems

goonytunes

I will never know how Jenkinson has become an Arsenal player. Not fit to tie even Eboues’ bootlaces

Red Cannon

Are you kidding? He has pace. He crosses well. He busts his ass for the team. He very frequently bursts past multiple defenders on the wing. Today he did that and then ran into another defender who stole the ball, but there have been plenty of occasions when his runs have produced valuable end results. His defense could use a bit more work, but even that is not horrible for a young back-up.

goonytunes

wow great he’s quick please build him a fucking statue. next time he plays, watch how our play breaks down when move the ball to him on the right hand side. but it’s all cool, he loves the club, that makes up for his obvious lack of talent. Really don’t know why we haven’t given Bellerin a chance over him

heroldgoon

Jenko is no where near ready to be our no.1 right-back think anyone in their right minds would agree but to dismiss him completely is wrong. He is still raw, highlighted by the fact that he doesn’t know what to do with the ball at times. The only way he can improve is by getting more games under his belt but with Sagna ahead of him whose quite frankly near impossible to dislodge all i ask is need to excersise abit of patience i’m sure he’ll come good.

ArsenalFan

He lacks too many basics necessary for that position.. He may be defensively ok but his link-up play and intelligence in offense are almost non-existent.. He has shown no progress needed at this level to be a top FB.. Fear and timidity combined with some rash daredevilry (with no skills to match them) are all that he has.. Enuff said..

eng

thats either sarcasm or you are shoving symptoms of spuds, a terrible condition were fans turn on their own players, you should see your doctor

DE Gooner

Is goonytunes related to one of crop of relatively recent jettisoned Reserves?

ArsenalFan

Jenks has been given enough opportunities this season and he has shown he has not improved and nor does he look to have the requisites needed for the position – he looks as poor as Smalling is at RB and that is saying a lot.. but as Jenks looks considerably strong, he can be trained for CB..

“Fans turning on our own players” – welcome to football mate.. And if Jenks keeps up those unintelligent dead-end forward runs (or seen enuff of ’em), you will soon be at his throat..

Arteta's hair

Also, i have just gathered all my piggy bank money, put it in an envelope and mailed it to the club labeled “SAGNA CONTRACT EXTENSION FUNDS”. I advise you all to do the same.

santori

I know I am committing heresy but personally feel as brilliant as Rosicky has been for us, that we should let him go in the summer and use the money to extend Sagna for the one more season he is asking for. Rosicky is not going to get younger and less injury proned. With Cback and back up keeper to purchase (not to mention a striker) we will benefit from a bit of stability at RB particularly with both Bellerin and the technically more limited jenkinson vying for succession. I think likely Wenger was sniffing out for the over priced… Read more »

Bergkamp fan

If you ask a 100 Arsenal fans whether they want Rosicky to stay or not, 99 will say they want him to retire at the Emirates. Then there is that idiot who goes by the name ‘santori’.

santori

You do realise he is 34 soon. 😉

GuyFawkes

Obviously you don’t know squat about what experience means in football.

Bergkamp fan

Zanetti is 40.

Rosicky plays like he is 24, so if the issue is whether he can still play is not even debatable.

If the issue is whether he’ll retire or not, then I don’t see why you would mind an Arsenal great retiring at the Emirates.

Besides, we’re not a small club, we can afford Sagna’s wages, and even if we couldn’t I doubt Arsene would do something like what you’re suggesting.

RobM

Santori, I don’t care how old he is, I care how he plays.
Right now he plays like he loves the club and his team mates and wants to do everything in his power to make games go well for us.

jack jack jack

Dennis stayed until he was 36. Rosicky still plays like a young man, he’s got more energy in those legs than most players in the league. He should retire here without a doubt. Continuity and experience are incredibly vital to a club, and Tomas gives us both those things.

KP

Anyone who suggests Rosicky should leave after THAT performance gets my cricket bat up their ass.

vnet

I’d vote for both sagna and rosicky extensions. Why does it have to be one over the other?
You need to keep the soul of the team. That for me is Rosicky.
So in a way Rosicky > Draxler.

The Playmaker

“Rosicky is not going to get younger”??
Where have you been the last three years?

OG Mike

Half the reason we’ve not won trophies recently is because we’ve struggled to replace players that have been sold, some of them due to age concerns such as yours. We’ve already cleared out the players that weren’t contributing; I say do everything in our power to extend both Rosicky’s and Sagna’s contracts and kick on from there.

'like a new signing'

Rosicky maybe older in years but he still has the fitness and discipline to press in midfield, also still can burst pass players and always looks 2 pass forwards and make things happen. Worth keeping on as all these ingredients not easy 2 find in AM. Also has a highly satisfying slide tackle up his sleeve

kafka

highly satisfying indeed. He is the player Arsene thinks of when he says tackling is an art.

Topgunner89

Time for a kickstarter campaign? 30 days of donations towards sagna’s next contract

Jack's Right Foot

That was a fucking pleasure to watch.

santori

I dunno, I could have done with two more goals. here’s hoping we absolutely spank Stoke next weekend for 6.;)

santori

I’m sure Giroud would say that about scoring too…pity no clean sheets.;)

santori

IF off field practise is the tonic for Giroud to score on field as well, then let’s prescribe it too Ozil. He is a chap who sees the cup half empty (incidentally much like most fans). The talent (and assists) are there and an attitude adjustment is not a difficult thing. Fantastic to see Rosicky and Podolski starting. Me thinks we will need their experience and form to carry through the final run up. This performance (albeit against Sunderland) smacks of anger and renewed confidence from the Bayern defeat. If we can build upon this, I have a feeling one… Read more »

Eddie McGoldrick

Hey “Santori” make your mind up will you fella.

First, you go on about how you think that the LEGEND Rosicky should be sacrificed at the end of the season, now you spout on about how great it is to see him (and Poldi) start and how great his experience will be for the final run in?

Riyan

Ummm… Sagna was really really good… But my app shows a Readers’ rating of 67.84??!
Is this a part of the plan to make him sign the contract?

Stewart Robson's therapist

No doubt the press will use this result to dig at Ozil once more – “this is what happens when he’s not there” sort of thing. Never mind that we were playing opponents who looked totally disinterested. Thumbs up if you’re sick to the back teeth of the papers bullying our boy Mesut 🙂

santori

Press will cum themselves all over City and Chelsea winning by a goal as stuff of champions where our big win would receive as muted a response as possible.

Giroud…He scores where he wants! 😀

DJgooner

Def some sexy footy today. Everyone worked hard and glad to see Poldi play full 90mins. Let’s start with Giroud and Podolski more often please.

rambozorla

Well done for working out which is Cazorla’s weak foot. I’m not sure he knows himself.

Trex d' Gunner

Sagna isn’t human, the guy must be made of some sort of indestructable material. It would be insane to let him go. Sign him up, kapish.

santori

We have replacements in Seamus Coleman and Debucchy for Sagna but personally prefer Sagna to stay for another 3 seasons.

Rather let the fantastic but older and injury laden Rosicky go, use the money to extend Sagna who at 31 is good for another 3 solid seasons. He is simply solid and durable and should be in good shape till 34 (Much like Dixon)

With Bellerin set to push the more limited jenkinsin for succession, we could do with the stability and mentorship at RB.

'like a new signing'

Does anyone else think Santori is a nob

Smudger

Will you stop blabbering on about letting Rosicky go and then putting forward some hideous argument to try and justify it? Seaman fucking Coleman? Behave yourself.

BeastZaraki

Apparently Mesut was in the stands today, watching the game. He posted a picture on twitter o_o

santori

Hopefully this will make him a bit thirsty for some of the action.

Arsene

Rumour has it that it isn’t Mesut, but rather whatever’s left of him after shamble performances produced throughout this season.

The nerve, I know!

Gunner88

Rosicky is a legend! He absolutely bossed it, he really is a special playmaker!

fotanen

We ‘ ve got to persuade Sagna to sign his contract extension.I don’ t care how much we’ ve got to spend ,he’ s worth every penny.

DR

Sagna 85.91 on 10?? He was that good??
SIGN DA TING!

Burn Baby Burn

Shouted at 4 clouds. classic.

ayooye

Three things we learned today. (1) Giroud has recovered and back to business to bring titles to emirates. (2) Mr. Versatile, Sagna deserved a new improved contract, I bet he could even play in goal and have a rating of 10 out of 10. (3) Arsene knows because he knows when to rest Ozil not to damage his confidence, he knows how to live with Legends (Bergkamp), he plays the best football in England.

In summary, Arsenal is a class club managed by a class Manager

Rambosaurus Cazoziloud

There is only one Arsene Wenger! There is only one Arsene Wenger!

Joel Adams

Our tempo of game seems to be very slow, we could hav score 7 – 0 when ever we score 3 to 4 we feel like we hav won. Thats wrong.

Red Cannon

If it were a different point in the season, I would probably agree with you. But after just finishing Deathrun 1 chasing after Bayern with 10 men on Wednesday and with so many of our players completely out or nursing injuries, I was completely comfortable with saving our energy for days when we need it. As it was we still picked up a bunch of new injuries today. It increases the odds of it being much worse if we went after a 10-nil win.

Smudger

You know you still only get 3 points if you win 10-0 right? And that the top flight has only ever been decided twice on goal difference?

We dominated the game, won at a canter, scored an absolutely cracking team goal…and people are moaning we didn’t score more and it’s “wrong” to do what we did today. What’s wrong with you people?

Rufusstan

Ever thought we settle for 3-4 because we don’t need more, and sometimes its better to conserve energy than showboat.

— Remember we’ve only conceded 7 at home in the league all season. 3 of those were on the first weekend (2 penalties), only Everton after that scored anything that mattered.

GunnerdareMACEDONIA

Our play today without Ozil was quick fluent one touch football, I’m saying this because today I noticed that when ozil plays our players in midfield mostly are looking for him to give him the ball every time, today was very different we were looking for free player and space never mind who is the player that is free for a pass and has a free space, this is a problem that wenger needs to address I’m not a coach but today movement and passing was great and they were not looking to pass the ball only to one player… Read more »

Any other player ever played right-back, left-back , and centre-back in the same game? Just curious!

ozil was in the stands watching the game. he even posted on facebook and cheered the team on!

CaesarTheGeezer

Thought the midfield were excellent today and although the opposition somewhat rolled over I feel it was a brilliant team display regardless! I thought jack had a great game today and was involved in everything good we done up until the last 20 mins! I feel as though jack is a small game player by that I mean he performs superbly against lower table opposition but can sometimes get a bit ahead of himself in the big games losing possession too easilyand he can be a bit headless! Would love to think what other people think?

heroldgoon

What is with santori suggesting we sell rosicky to fund sagnas wages? Nicky b would make more sense as he wants to move on lol not that i think we would need to sell to pay for wages!!! Loadsa money lol
