Miquel linked with Norwich switch

Norwich City are keen to sign Arsenal centre-back Ignasi Miquel, according to Sky Sports News.

The Spaniard, a former captain of the Gunners’ under-21 side, spent last season on loan with Leicester City in the Championship and is believed to be weighing up his options with first team chances few and far between at the Emirates.

Educated at Barcelona’s La Masia academy where he developed a tidy left peg as well as lustrous latino locks, Miquel moved to North London in 2008 and made his debut in January 2011 in the FA Cup against Leyton Orient.

He’s not without experience, scoring against Coventry in a 6-1 League Cup rout a couple of years, playing in that manic 7-5 win over Reading and making appearances in the Premier League and Champions League.

Despite being down to the bare bones in the centre of defence the fact that Calum Chambers has jumped ahead of Miquel in the pecking order suggests he’ll will be allowed to leave in the next few days should Wenger find a suitable replacement. He’s in the last year of his contract so a permanent, rather than loan, move seems more likely.

A technically astute player, Arseblog News has always felt Miquel lacks the imposing physique needed to cope with the rough and tumble of the Premier League. Perhaps we’re wrong, best of luck to him if he does move on. Seems like a nice chap…and like we said, good hair too.

Edu's Braces

If he goes it would surely mean that we have a new CB in the bag?

Gooner1

Unfortunately his time ran out, we have better young defenders than him, namely Julio Plegeuzeulo and Isaac Hayden who look to have a lot better chance of making the 1st team in the future. We’ve been linked with Sokratis Papastathopulos from Dortmund who would be a great addition. I think in all likeliness if we had him and Per and Kos they would be our 3 cb’s for the next few years. Chambers will cover CB and RB this year & have Arteta Flamini in the midfield. Then potentially next season Chambers will be moved to a DM who will… Read more »

Not too keen on that Julio chap, I can’t even spell our goalkeepers name properly, so what hope do I have with his name?

He should change it to Julio Plug, which is both easier to spell and allows for lots of plug-related puns.

sanku

yes, as long as the coq hangs on we will still have some pun-ny comments.

Four star German

Now it be terrific for the young man to get first team football….bug it leaves us very short!

Aaron Mc

Get him gone and bring in Mr. P. Sokratis no? I love Chambers, BFG and Kosc, but depth is vital to challenge for every cup. #COYG

I always rated Miquel, but it’s hard to know him based on some odd minutes in the Budweiser Bank Cup. His departure would leave us with no backup CB. If you say Chambers, then I say we don’t have a backup RB. Versatility should not be at the expense of depth. Bayern and Spurs both signed backup CBs for under 10m in the past two days. Why we leave it to the last minute I’ll never understand….

In any event, best of luck Ignasi.

Xhani

Benatia didn’t go for under 10m and I hardly imagine he’d be content to be considered a “back-up”.

Bellerin at RB?

Jon Orme

Good luck to him.

Seems a new CB is imminent.

True North Gooner

The tabloids must love stuff like this. They can generate so many clicks with their headlines “CONFIRMED – Arsenal seal center back switch!” etc.

JAL

If true, this surely only means one thing!

…….Or help us God.

Thierry Walcott

Bergkamp is in Holland mate…

dexterthebear

If he could jump he would have more of a chance

cnd

Looking forward to the CB signing. Then it will be wait and see if they sign a striker.

santori

Yeah looks like a new Cback coming in.

Miquel may yet develop into a fine Cback but he is facing immediate pressure from Chambers and a number of younger defenders from academy like Hayden. He hasn’t quite made the grade yet.

Coquelin looks like the other obvious player on the periphery again being pushed by Chambers.

sambo

Hes bulked up, looks like a man from a boy at first glance. I would love for him to go away on loan for 2 years and absolutely smash it. What i dont understand is with a club like Arsenal and for all its expertise in training and finding players. Why cant we produce a HUGE 6’4+ athletically fast 2 footed defender that is intelligent? For 60 million we could build one in a lab! lol

Daniel

Hahahaha bubbles in the air.. oh shit wrong fans er yh you’ll never walk alone.. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Touched Your Mother

Exactly

Cheez

If BFG, koscielny or Chambers gets injured we will have no back up.
