Wenger: financial muscle gives us better chance

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are more confident than they were this time last year after an efficient summer in the transfer market that has seen them secure four new signings.

Citing the shifting balance of power brought about by UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations and the Gunners’ increased financial clout, the boss claimed his squad are well-placed to take advantage of the Premier League’s increasingly level playing field.

“We have more confidence than at the beginning of last season but our opponents have also strengthened so it’s hard to predict,” the Frenchman told press ahead of the Emirates Cup.

“The balance of power in the Premier League is a bit more even than it was five or six years ago. With FFP added to the fact that we have more financial power than five years ago, it gives us a better chance.

“Last season and this, it has changed. We have had the financial power to do it. But in the seasons before, we could not. I was sitting here and saying: ‘Who will go next?’

“We’ve managed to get in a better position. It’s a vicious circle. Once you get great players in, everybody wants to stay. You see the case with Southampton. Would Schneiderlin absolutely want to go if everybody stayed?”

Meanwhile, Galatasaray have expressed an interest in Joel Campbell, but their president says any move is dependent, obviously, on what Arsene Wenger wants to do with the Costa Rican forward.

Campbell will get a chance to impress this weekend in the Emirates Cup.

Aysun

It is always good to be a Gunner! we had some patchy years but it is the part and parcel of being a supporter of the Club! COYG !!!!

The early 80’s weren’t so good.

A Yank in King Arsene's West Stand

I can’t wait to read AW’s autobiography. Not that it’s forthcoming or anything, it’s just to be a completely fascinating read. What a guy.

Giroud Awakening

We can even afford flight attendants to stand behind Le Prof during press conferences. Are they here to stay? 😉

“Arsene Wenger’s a magician, he wears a magic hat, when he saw the double, he said I’ll have that!” ……can see these days coming back

AllGunsABlazin

No question Campbell should be a Gooner. He’s waited long enough for his chance, got a good head on his shoulders too. He could definitely be useful.

sheldon

Nothing better than a confident Arsene Wenger.

Sowed Hozi

Reports suggesting we are still discussing a deal with sporting Lisbon for Carvalho too. Last piece of the puzzle?

Campbell > Sanogo

Can’t wait to see him in a couple of hours.

A to the HA

Sanogo 3 – 1 Campbell

I’m just happy they’re both playing for the Arsenal badge

Is it me or has the Carling Cup win taken years off Arsene Wenger? hopefully see his beautiful grin many times to the end of the season!

Hutch

arseblood

Arsenal is finally proving the doubters wrong and long may it last. On to the premier league and champions league. Oh to be a gooner!!

Gooner '75

A double before the season starts would be nice! If chavski want to count the charity shield as a major trophy then surely we can the emirates cup. Up yours moronio. Come On You Rip Roaring Reds!!

Goonerestgooner

Arsene and his Flying Bitches.

Sounds like a punk rock band.

Giroud Awakening

A really terrible punk rock band

Merlin's Panini

I know it’s because of the Emirates sponsorship and all but shouldn’t those flight attendants be, you know, working?
They look like a pair of groupies who didn’t have the time to get changed after work.

I reckon it would be much more awesome if there was just a couple of people dressed up like aeroplanes standing either side. It would be like a Flaming Lips performance or something.

wash_dc_gunner

@Andrew It’s always a good time to be a Gooner!

indiangooner

As any Indian would like to say,
“Achhe din aane wale hai”

Better days are coming..

GGGA

Ooooh.. It seems that Monreal will be cover for CB and LB, while Chambers will be cover for CB and RB. Interesting. IMHO TV5 will definitely be sold, most probably to Barca. I’m still hoping for another proper cover for CB or someone who can play both CB and DMF.

Crispy

Holy shit……Sanogo scored.

Nice finish from the big fella.

Crispy

Can’t stop smiling. Witnessed a Sanogo hatrick.

Never ever thought he’d improve but he’s worked hard over the summer it seams, to prove me and quite a few others wrong.

Bellerin looks a natural.

Really like the look of Campbell. Hope he gets his chance this season.

ghanagunner

Bellerin is looking real good (going forward) hasn’t been tested yet defensively but i hope its not a flash in the pan.

Thin Gooner

Sanogo and Campbell… It’s a beautiful thing. The future’s bright, the future’s Arsenal.

Gooner Gooner Lamb Bhuna

Wow. Everyone looks good. Sanogo a bit ungainly but gets in the right places. Campbell looks great but the pick of the first half has to be Bellerin (Not including Ramsey)

Gooner '75

Yaya yeah yeah

Gooner Gooner Lamb Bhuna

He is called ChamBers right?

Iceman

I have a feeling we are going to have a great great season! Bellerin and Campbell have looked right at home. And thats not mentioning Sanogo who seem to be playing like he’s possessed by the spirit of Henry.

sam gooner

Did we just spend £57m before August. I mean WHAAAAT….. by the way IndianGooner nice touch with the hindi. Where do you stay

La Défènse

Yaya Sanogo!

Thin Gooner

Chak de Arsenal

rossi88

I’ve said all along sanogo has what it takes. Its just gonna take time. Has he scored a hat trick before giroud or is it just me?

Four star German

Four star German salutes four star Yaya

Arsene's Wengerboyz

Hopefully Sanogo only has abit of Adebayor’s footballing ability and not his cuntinity.

New Magic Hat

The Stepford Wife flight attendants standing behind Wenger at press conferences – with their frozen inane grins and disturbingly vacant gazes – are seriously starting to freak me out.
