Delighted Welbeck keen to repay Wenger faith

Hat-trick hero Danny Welbeck says he’s happy to be given a chance in his favoured central striking position and that he’s determined to repay Arsene Wenger’s faith in him.

The striker bagged a hat-trick against Galatasaray last night, the first of his professional career, but first the focus on the team and, afterwards, the man who bought him from Manchester United on deadline day.

“This is my first career hat-trick. I’m playing up front and trying to score goals and getting into goalscoring positions – tonight it paid off.

“But the most important thing was we got our three points on the board. We needed that after the first game in the group.

“We’ve set the benchmark now and we’ve really got to try and grow on that positive win. From now on we want to get three points in every single game.”

He did, however, touch on the manager whose 18th anniversary in charge was made all the sweeter by Welbeck’s goal-scoring exploits.

“He’s given me the chance to play up front in my preferred position,” he said, “and I’m going to do everything that I can to make sure that he’s happy.”

Keep slotting those chances away and we dare say he’ll be quite pleased. A winner on Sunday would be nice too. Cheers, Danny.

Well done Danny boy! great game all round… keep working like that and you will be a big hit with all of us! good effort

eternalflamini

I’m not English but it’s still nice to have so many English players playing for Arsenal, and they all seem really nice lads as well. A team you can really get behind – trophies isn’t everything.

Gus

Arsene is an innovator, he often does the opposite to what everyone else is doing. When he arrived he filled the team with cheap foreigners at a time where the accepted wisdom was that only English players could win the league. Now he fills his team with English players in a time where the accepted wisdom is that english players are shit and over-priced and its better to build a team entirely by splurging big money on foreigners.

bergkamp's hooped sock

Well, he did buy Ozil and Alexis. I think Wenger just searches for good value, present or future. Ozil at 42 was a solid buy for the present, as was Alexis, while Cazorla was a snip at 16. If ever Wenger overpays, it’s only for future value; Chambers at 16 and the Ox at 15 with just one season behind them each were definitely gambles.

grannydanger

Innovator, sure, but the results have gone south for quite a while now…It’s only wisdom if it’s producing results…no, the FA cup isn’t a real trophy.

Bould's Eyeliner

the FA cup isn’t a real trophy? when we won it, i hope you were drinking miserably by yourself, in your living room, peeing into a man diaper.

ramsey's spirit

to put it another way, hes a stubborn old git, but hes OUR stubborn old git and psg can fuck off and find their own

Arsenalboy

Welbz is our guy! *joy*

Arsene's Wengerboyz

Do the same to Chelsea please !

Scarzola

Never knew he had such pace and power. Fantastic night, keep it up!.

The Only Olivier is Giroud

Well pleased for WellBeck!

I agreed with what Merson said after the game….for a change! As good as was last night, we cant play that way against chelsea. Theyre a better team, and will have more of the ball, and do more with than Galatasaray. I fear we wont learn from last season. But im open to a surprise. More than most things this season, beating chelsea is what i want.

Big Dave

“He (Wellbeck) can only do what he’s done” ….was my personal favourite quote of Merson’s last night.

deji

i love my arsenal but, the chelsea game is best watched with the hope of not conceeding more than 3. Wenger simply has no answer to Maureen’s negative tactics.

Erwandy

That’s because Le Boss is a true gentleman, not like Maureen who set the standard for stooping low in doing ANYTHING just to get a win

neutral

I am completely impressed with his all around play, it’s early days but I think Giroud just got relegated to the bench.

I’m never happy for an injury, but without Giroud’s there would be no Welbeck at Arsenal.

…and we can play both on a cold night at Orc city

AS17 is for A.Sanchez not A.song

That midfield playing behind him knows how to spot his runs. All he has to do is time his runs and perfect his finishing! Just like last night! Danny isn’t Theirry! Yet! but what he did last night was just THERRIFIC! Now do it again against Teary. Please some of that!
Ohh today I find younger! more of that medicine

AS17 is for A.Sanchez not A.song

How could I forget! Damn me!
Happy Anniversary Boss! All the ups and downs have made me appreciate you more. Sometimes you disappoint. At times you irritate. At times you are too stubborn. But even through all that, I wouldn’t, for a sec, trade you for anyone Boss or anything for that matter! Taste of glory with you is so much sweeter than it without you! In Arsene I trust

Karl

I’m with Wenger. I knew Danny was fast but didn’t realise how fast. Did you see him leave two players for dead early in the 1st half? I think the fact he had never scored a professional hatrick till he joined Arsenal says a lot, and the fact he has scored it this early in his Arsenal career bodes well for the future. Keep making those movements and those runs and the goals will flow just like last night!

aloha

Excellent perf last night. A bit off topic. can we stop envisioning monsters re Sunday’s game? The team we will play beat villa by the same score we did. Everton put 3 pass them in their high scoring game (yeah Everton conceded twice as much). They drew with sh*tty like we did. Where is all this gloom and doom coming from. Please for positive affirmations. The ball is round. No I don’t care who is on their team nor much about our last cross city hop.

grannydanger

Our game against everton could’ve easily gone 6-3 against us, so if you wanna play the what ifs game, chelsea beat the team that almost beat us by the same scoreline

aloha

Could, should. ..it ended square. If the team shows up in the right frame I have no fear of not getting a result. Performances are improving. No fear. It’s all to play for

TommyGun

I think the lad could be very good indeed. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves but he is a confident boy and seems to work hard so I can’t see him getting ahead of himself. Man Utd fans seem to be genuinely pleased for him but I hope we make them even more sad to see him go.

emir of emirates

Bring on the Chaf chevs.. and let TDB (that Danny Boy) get the 2 goals on either side of their only goal…followed by Alexis goals..3 assisted by Ozil and the last by Santi..Fabregas picks up a heavy 30 minutes knock that keeps him out for 3 weeks, and Costa WTF is his name will be safe in Kos ‘d’ Boss’s pocket..the rest is history for the Sky retards to try to phantom how it all happened.

Tenzo (Theo's [not so] secret lover.)

With Theo back, we may have the paciest and (potentially) most dangerous attack minded players in the league now. We may be lacking cover defensively, but we still have a superior defensive outfit compared to the likes of Liverpool, Man U, etc. If and when we get that cover, and Arsene figures out his ideal squads for the big games, we’ll actually be able to compete consistently at the top.

Excited as fuck.

Up the arse.

Smokin'Gunner

Oh Danny boy, the Arsenal they are calling
He scores the the goals and we all sing his name
Oh Danny boy, the Arsenal they are calling
On sunday, can you please do the same!

Swedishgooner

I am growing quite fond of our new striker! When he played for Utd he was shite by default. But he has emerged from the shadows and man isnt he everything we deserve!? I was one of the negative ones during the transfer-saga that brought him to Emirates, but he has proven himself worthy (so far) 😉 With some concistency he will be legend for us! He also seems like a good role model and a positive influence, which is nice. Thank u LvG for sucking.

Gooner from Pretoria.

Thieriffic new word stolen thank you..I think he has what it takes to bench sturridge..I am south African but can’t help but feel english thanks to the british core…

Loke

Looking at him now, he really seem like the complete package. Very athletic, pace, power, good technical ability and a good finisher. He has got all the attributes you need to become a truly world class striker. Will be interesting to see how he develops.

Kiddleton Fan

Well(done)beck!!!

Jet Gooner

As the while world keeps telling us though, he’s not a natural finisher!!
Chelski will be the same as it always is though. We play well, look like winners and then they score and we get picked off chasing the game.

Robstar

This is totally off topic blogs so please forgive me. As a red member I usually get to most home games. I pay a pretty penny but I get to them. Just lately the system is poor and is a source of major frustration. Am I right in thinking someone close to the club now owns and runs this system? Am I also right in thinking this persons “company” took a large bonus out for running this system? Rant over.

arsenal fan

All I wanna say is, we need a plan B for when the opposition is set up to play deep, defend, pressure and when we lose the ball, hit us on the break. That is really our kryptonite.

Alex X

The center backs he ran ragged last night were pretty terrible, both small AND slow as snails, and if better CB’s play him deeper and he can get behind them that’ll be something. Looks to have the pace power and timing to do it, could be a great signing. And when Ollie gets back we’ll truly have for the first time in ages a plan A and B…nice one.

Charliegeorgious

You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try some times
You just might find
You get what you need

Danny, you weren’t what many wanted but turns out you’re just what we needed.

GGGA

I have to confess that he is my lulz guy when he was playing for united. I lolled when he missed those easy chances. I rofl when he make a mess out of promising moves.

So please Welbeck. Punish me by scoring as many goal as you can!

149 Just Done It

“We gonna rock down to the Welbeck avenue. Our ex-manc is on fire”. And that’s all Eddy Grant has to say about that!

Fatgooner

Really pleased for Danny; his second goal was the best. Galatasary were pretty awful, but you can only beat what’s in front of you – and we did that well.

Sanchez was excellent too.. took his goal well.

Why does Szcznsey ALWAYS have to have a lapse in every game?

A good night… but Chelsea will be a different matter.

Injured Gooner

To beat Chelsea 1-4, it would have to be a different matter all together. An eager mobile and pacy striker that has good team play is quite different to what we’ve gotten used to. Imagining Giroud playing just behind Welbeck in a 4-4-2.

Not in every game, mind you. We could even do that with Poldi or Sanches, that would work out really nicely if we won our games that way with our midfielders dropping out like flies.

Merlin's Panini

Good lad. Keep it up Danny.
You really can not fault this guys work rate and his finishing last night was superb. He works for his luck and a few other players would do well to take a leaf out of his book.

OLACIOUScoded

Wow danny was superb, I just love him. I have a strong feeling that this time around chelsea will be surprise. It won’t be funny when chelsea see the result sunday’s game. Danny play like that again against chelsea you’ll be a trouble for their defense.
