Sick Wilshere out, but Wenger positive over injuries

Arsene Wenger has ruled Jack Wilshere out of tomorrow’s Champions League clash against Anderlecht due to illness.

The England midfielder had been a doubt for the game anyway due to a kick on the knee in training that meant he missed Saturday’s win over Burnley.

The boss confirmed that his squad had not picked up any new injuries at the weekend and even spoke positively about the spate of long-term problems which sees him still without Mathieu Debuchy, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and David Ospina.

“We had a lot of long-term injuries but they are all slowly getting better,” he told today’s press conference. “We are near the end of the tunnel.”

Fingers crossed the light at the end of the tunnel doesn’t turn out to be a train racing headlong into the ankles of all our players again.

the only sam is nelson

does that mean that Abou Diaby is still in the two-week vortex?

Lasagna

It menas Diaby took left halfway through that tunnel and went into another even longer tunnel.

Smart-Arse

I just imagined our players in a game of mariokart getting hit by blue shells and banana skins. Diaby would be like waluigi. Santi is mario. Walcott = koopa trooper

The only thing comforting me with all the injuries we have is Alexis Sanchez. What a man. What a player.

Jeff

You jinx.

Arsenalboy

We can only be better, and soon enough Wenger got a luxury-problem deciding the Lucky eleven who represent our beautiful crest.

Hilary Montana

We need a figthing and determine spirit, I just wanna watch arsenal beat chelsea convincingly, why can’t we?

Kosballs

Any updates on the rattling goalpost?

aaron

He suffered errr little bit severe bruising so will be out for 2-3 weeks 😐

GoonerN16

Reportedly, still vibrating………

Chaplin35

Highly cynical about the “illness”. It’s probable a bit bigger knock than first thought

Mpls

It’s November and Jack’s got munchkins = illness.

D

Well I can confirm that Jack was out with Jonjo Shelvey in Picadilly Circus on Saturday night. Make of this what you will.

Wenger's Glasses

Poldi, Alexis & Theo is such a deadly combination, isn’t it? It’s like a tidal wave of attacking force when they were on the field together. Still buzzing. It’s so awesome.

David

win this CL tie nice and early please then sit back and rotate players in the 2nd half.

COYG!!!

Alexis is a beast!

Saw Wilshire swanning around on Saturday, looked perfectly fine to me

Fact : We have played better without Wilshere on the pitch. Either with him not starting (Villa,Galatasary,Burnley) or after being subbed off (any other decent result)…..except City at home. One decent performance all season. So not worried in the slightest….

The thing is Villa (Last six games: LLLLLL), Burnley (rock bottom of the table without a win all season) and Galatasary are also the worst teams we’ve played all season. You’ve also missed out the two Besiktas games where he was immense, and he was our best player against Chelsea (not saying much I know). Regardless, I think we’ll cope against Anderlecht.

The reality is, that Jack not playing has not as yet affected the little run we are now on. We are awash with midfield talent , too many of a particular type…………attacking. I seriously want to see him and our Welsh Jesus developed into the “break up type midfielder” , with an eye to getting forward when appropriate, replacing in time Arteta and Flamini. Put these two excellent players up front with Walcott , Alexis, Ox, Santi, not forgetting Ozil , everyone gets in the way of the delightful fluidity that is available. Stick them in behind the likes of… Read more »

Just hope when Jack returns Wenger won’t try to force him into the team with that god awful 4-1-4-1. This system around Alexis is working wonders and let it until Ozil comes back!

Sooooo, how exactly would Ozil fit in your 4-4-2 (or 4-4-1-1 if you like)? IMO, we looked at our best when Ramsey, Walcott and Podolski came on and that gave us a shape closer to a 4-1-4-1. We also have to remember that this was only Burnley, they could basically be relegated by xmas.

Sooooo how does Ozil fit into that 4-4-2 (or rather, 4-4-1-1 if you like)? I think we were at our best when Ramsey, Podolski and Walcott came on and that definitely looked more like a 4-1-4-1.

Jo

Yeah, I’m real tired of the now-annual round of illness at the training ground. Arsenal’s entire staff need to watch a replay of Michael Jordan’s flu game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_NBA_Finals#Game_5:_The_Flu_Game ), quit their whinging, and play through such illness.

David smith

Blogs you gotta put the wenger puma coat advert up lol

Iamchibs

Why i dont see In Shad we trust hashtags? I mean our players are returning before schedule!

1GoonerDan

We probably were at our best when Ramsey, Podolski and Walcott came on but in the case of Pod and Theo we’d just gone 2-0 up so Burnley’s spirit was broken, they had nothing to cling on to and were beaten physically and mentally.

Not disagreeing, just a caveat…
