Arsenal’s new midfield dynamo, answer to all our DM prayers and probably the inventor of a device that can turn John Terry’s gizzards to liquid from half a mile, says that time he spent playing regularly during his spell at Charlton is being reflected in his Arsenal performances right now.
In the absence of Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, the 24 year old was recalled from The Valley and given his chance in the first team. And such is the impact he’s made, he kept long-time Wenger favourite, Mathieu Flamini, out of the team at the weekend against Stoke.
Speaking to the official website, he said getting regular football under his belt in a more physical league stood him in good stead.
“I’ve been out on loan to Charlton and that was a good experience for me,” he said, in his almost Aliadiere-esque French/London accent (Frockney?). “Now I’m back at Arsenal and playing again, so I’m enjoying it.
“The Championship is a tough league. Maybe technically the Premier League is a little bit better but in terms of power, engagement in duels and challenges, I think the Championship is a very tough league. It helped me come back to the Premier League.
“The manager called me for a reason, gave me my chance and I’m now trying to prove what I can do on the pitch.”
With a midfield signing unlikely this window, other than 17 year old Polish wonderkid Krystian Bielik, it looks as we’ll be getting our Coq out for a few weeks to come, so let’s hope this good form isn’t just a spurt.
I think the Coq is really good. I was a bit sad to see him Loaned as I thought he’d never come back,
BUT HE’S BACK
and providing a real physicality flamini doesn’t provide (or any of our other midfielders)
Yeah But I am afraid he’s gonna coq-block us for than new DM .
Altho if Coq can fill that gap at the back ,I’d be happy
If the Coq can play, why do we need to go and buy someone else? I don’t understand how people think sometimes. Because he went on a few loans and didn’t cost 30million shouldn’t prevent him from being a good player
We should sell him and buy him back when his value reaches 30M..!
Like Chelsea and Matic..good business they did.
Well looking at our respective league positions, I’d say their strategy is working out…
You call selling a guy for 5million and buying him back for 30millon a strategy? Wow!
If anything, Matic is an Inditement on their whole setup. They could not identity his quality when he was with them.
Shit business but they knew their mistake and bought him back, along with willian they have two physical, technically gifted players who dont want for pace like Flamini and Arteta. I always say if those two had pace arteta could be one of the finest in the world. but you cant buy pace. My point is Chelsea rectified their mistake and quickly.
Well, as for me, I prefer the way we’ve gone about Coq, if he turns out to be the real deal. We let him go on several loan spells but we didn’t have to spend 30million to get him back
I somehow doubt that his value will ever past the 30m ‘marker’. I mean the guy is 24. Not many years left for him to reach that 30m+ marker. Nobody pays £30m for a player who has past his prime. After all the prime of a footballer usually comes around 25+.
Like Manure and Pogba.
Oh!!!!!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Imagine if we’d gotten Matic from Porto last year instead of Chelsea.
Together with Francis Coquelin our central midfield could be called ‘Coq-Itch’.
Check: The 30 year old Frenchman in Barca’s defence is approximately 30 million
I’m happy as long as our Coq continues to be consistently strong and hard week in week out
In and out you say?
That’s what one does as a, ahem, defensive midfielder. Get in, get the ball, pass it on, and then pull back.
No, no, no!
Strong In, Strong Out
Looks like the rigours of the championship made this Coq harder.
Always been a fan since reserve days, and was sad that he didn’t seem to get a chance, especially over Flamini.
Hoping for a great performance against City to finally shut his doubters wrong.
He knows how to pass it also. Remember that over the top of the defense to Walcat in the game against hull.
He has pace, he has a great leap for his size! and he has bite! I was so impressed with his passing it was calm, simple but about 30% of them were cutting between lines and not just sideways or backwards. He has a vision for the direct ball and in his last game they all came off which was impressive! I would go for a CB who can play LB if possible. I wish i could give a name but im not paid 8 million a year for that info so ill let Wenger do it lol. p.s fuck… Read more »
yeah. a little bit like Song, but a more disciplined version. I hope we keep him. He’s at the very least a very good squad player.
I somehow never seem to be able to get enough Coq jokes.
Charlton have changed their nickname from Addicks to Adcoqs.
I much prefer our Coq on the ball to Sp*rs cock on a ball.
I stopped reading after “I somehow never seem to be able to get enough Coq”
“Oh, Shut up…Shut up….Shut the F*ck Up!” Never get tired of seeing this Coq swing:

With Flamini’s contract ending at the end of the season, I can easily see Coquelin taking over his role as backup DM (or even first choice DM if he steps up in the upcoming fixtures).
Now if he manages to be more assured on the ball and learn how to control the flow of the game from his position, we’ll have a very good Coq in our hands.
Flamini’s contract runs till 2016. He specifically said in an interview that he rejected a 2 year contract from Milan as he wanted nothing less than 3 years.
Transfermarkt shows his contract ends summer of 2015.
Why the need to force the Coq jokes?! Can’t you just talk normally, like you would about any other player?
Oh, Shut up…
R.S.V.P
Le Mighty Coq
Because other players’ name doesn’t rhyme
OK, I’ll give it a go….
If you want to reach the heights then you have to put your Arteta in.
Our DM has given the ball away. What a Flamini up!!!
…um, I’m not sure it’s working. Went down like a limp Cazorla.
I thought we gave Flamini 4 years contract?
Coqney…
Well played!
He is still very raw. Lunges into tackles far too often. Also, is not composed on the ball. He really needs to improve drastically to be able to nail down a first team place. I feel, Arsenal needs a world class DM as it forms the bridge between attack and defense. No more experimenting on this critical position. Hope monsieur Wenger has something up his sleeve. If I were in-charge, I would release Arteta, Flamini, Diaby and get a marquee DM. Le Coq can be the understudy…
Luckily you’re not Wenger as it’s clear even 24 years olds aren’t ready yet in your eyes. How do players get better without playing?
Your first three sentences were almost funny Coq jokes, but then you wrecked it Ralph. Your criticism of le Coq could almost work for Flamini too. He lunges into tackles far too often, and he’s old enough to know better. You can’t just say “get a marquee DM”. That’s FIFA talk. You have to propose a workable solution. You know.. tell us who this wondrous and available marquee DM is. Name the price we could get him for if other Clubs are also in for him, etc etc. If you don’t do it that way then all you’re really doing… Read more »
To be fair, it’s a “she”.. But yeah – She could still play with her friends Coq.
Does anyone know a Charlton fan? Was he impressing there? I agree he’s looked solid but it’s hard to judge off a relatively small number of games.
Appreciate this a long shot with there being about ten of them by the way…
I was actually at The Valley when Charlton played Millwall and in my opinion, he was the man of the match. My friend, who was a Charlton fan, agreed. He was the most lively and dynamic player and looked a class above everyone else on the pitch. That being said, it was a dull nil-nil but still he did well and my mate was sad to see the loan end.
My, Charlton supporting/suffering, pal was gutted when he was recalled as he reckons he was having a blinder for them.
There you go Arsehobbit… straight from the horse’s mate’s mouth.
ArseHobbit, yes, i know one of the 10 season ticket holders at the Valley, and he said they loved it when we had our Coq out on their pitch.
I’d like a lengthy spurt from our Coq, been impressed with him so far.
Q: Does he know about all the Coq jokes?
Arsene: Look, I put a lot of effort into this! I made a really nice coquelin…
Bould: Cock of what?!
Gazidis: You don’t help yourself, do you?
Will: Oh yes, I see, ‘coq’uelin, very mature! It actually mean chicken in line, doesn’t it, Thierry?
Thierry: [bored] Quoi?
Arsene: Well, it does, and it doesn’t mean cock up my arse, or cock on my head, or…
Bould: …you got some cock in the back of a van…
Arsene: Or that I got some cock in the back of a van!
I have no idea how this scenario came up or even why you imagined it…
It’s from the Imbetweeners, christ.
Oh I see, that’s why he called Arsene ‘Will’ halfway through.
The perils of copy-and-pasting somebody else’s jokes.
I just hope he rises to the occasion against city and gives nasri and good old lashing
Like what he’s offered thus far; energy, physicality and forward passing into dangerous areas as opposed to sideways.
Time will tell if he can step it up against the very best opposition and I suspect Arsene has seen enough to convince him to put the cheque book away with the DM position in mind until the summer with that point in mind.
Now so not to feel left out; this Coq has certainly risen to the challenge and proven thus far hard enough and fast enough to get the job done with a good tackle to boot.
“….championship is tough….” now that explains why he remained unfazed by stoke.
Our Coq got hard just in time for Arsene to reach down, grab and shove him into that gapping hole in the middle…. (Of our midfield you dirty minded gunner). Long shall it continue
[Insert Penis Joke Here]
Okay, where’s the joke.
I’ve inserted my penis. I’ve kept my end of the bargain up.
I suspect I’ve just been diddled. I feel used.
I have to say, I thought he was doing alright before he was shipped out on loan a couple of seasons back.
He always seemed to help shore things up quite well. I am glad to see him back to try and prove himself at Arsenal again, and I think he is doing just that.
Welcome back, me old Coq !
😀
Does anyone remember the game vs Bradford (I know its only bradford), he looked like the only player up for it which was odd considering the quality of players we fielded… He even hit the post and when he got subbed due to injury I knew the game would go to shit.
there is absolutely nothing that shows he is not good enough to be our dm, he has been near enough excellent since he got given a chance I just don’t understand what wenger saw in this current flamini to start him over coq glad he’s seen the error of his ways and mr blogs you seem from the start to be very negative to coq as if he’s shown you something that you don’t like on the pitch if so please do tell il say this much if he was bought for 30 mill and pulled in the type of… Read more »
His inability to break through despite being offered opportunities and failed loan spells is ample evidence he’s not good enough to be our dm, essentially its looking at his entire career rather than his form over the last 4/5 games.
I assume you would be keen on a Matic-esq player who failed at Chelsea and was sold for £5m?
a couple of commas, maybe a full stop… you know? punctuation…
I like his physical approach. He is big and strong and not frightened to be the enforcer. He shows potential as a passer too. I’d love to see him have a great performance at the weekend. He does seem to pick up a yellow every game, although also appears to play sensibly so far when on one yellow. He must be close to the five yellow suspension at this point.
He is. One more yellow and he sits a match. Hopefully the yellow will come towards the end of next week’s match while we’re up 4-0 on Schitty, for a tackle that sidelines the Chinless Cunt for the next six weeks.
Isn’t it strange that the Coq, who seemed to be on his way out this summer (given the way he was loaned out) is now a very important part of our midfield? I understand that these players are watched carefully, day in and day out, and the decision to play them are taken by experts. But in this case, Coq, who is not expected to perform well, but is played because of the injury crisis, turns out to be a better choice than the first team options we have at hand. Isn’t kind of concerning how these people at the… Read more »
I am a fan of coqney and I ave been impressed by him so far give this lad confidence and back up he can be what arsenal really seek out there
He’s so much better then Mathieu and Mikel, and it’s our only hope we can do better on the next days…Mathieu it’s not the same like 07/08 season and Mikel has a good pass, but he’s too old for defend us.
So far so good but bigger battles lie ahead starting this weekend.
At YaYa won’t be there to battle him. So that’s minus one! The guy is 24, has the size, built, good passing range, good tackle, good positioning, defensive, getting better with every game, the only “down side” is the “Zero Price” and was sent on loan, if I understand some people correctly, right? Thank Goodness Wenger doesn’t listen to some of you to make decisions. Mark my word; “Coq is our defensive solution, Flamini and Ateta are now back ups. We will only get the 17 yrs old wonder kid (I watched his U-Tube clips keenly, he can easily become… Read more »
Also, don’t forget those players coming back from injury lay off, Ramsey and Ozil inclusive. We may just stuff City on Sunday.
It’s getting exciting!
We may need to sign a top class DM in the summer but Coq has five months to persuade Weng that he may not need to invest big money in that area. He has done well so far and I agree that if we had paid 20 miliion for him no one would be complaining at the level of performance. Personally I think Weng will move for a new DM as Arteta and even Flamini may well move on in the summer so it may well be academic how well the Coq lasts.
Pardew took Alex Song on loan at Charlton when he was manager there, which really helped his development. Unfortunately, we also sent the poor buggers Frimpong. Nonetheless, it seems we have a good relationship with them. Hopefully Pardew can rub his magic oils on Sanogo as well.
*shudders at the thought of pardew rubbing oil on anyone*
Well Charlton may have made him a hard-man, but Wenger’s stroke of genius must be credited for this spurt. Aw, look at all us Gooners back to gushing all over a Wenger youth product.
considering all the Coq jokes, should it not read “Wenger’s stroke of *penis* must be credited for this spurt”
I am pleased that the Coq is getting games under is belt. Wenger sign these young stars because he saw great potentials in them. It is important that they are given good opportunity in the first team to develop and this should be done in a systematic manner. I really would like to see arsenal youngsters do the Iniesta-Xavi barca generation thing, and the Becham-Scholes generation in Manu.
One thing I’m really fearing is any kind of injury to our Coq, he adds a lot of physicality and thrust to the middle. Let’s hope those physios are rubbing our Coq as often as possible as a method of prevention
Le prof loves a bit of coq monsieur with a nice side of coq au vin (you don’t need to be vulgar all the time lads, you just need some culture sometimes )
The Coq has much more staying power than William Gallas’ penis. The Coq knows how to make beeuutifuuul love in a ‘ard midfield. 😉
Will turn out to be a world class CDM, mark my works. What player lunges like he does with a clear-cut eye for the ball? Even Mascherano can’t tackle like that!
Hope he drives head first into that cunt Nasri
Let’s have a recap of the Coq He went to Lorient, did pretty well. Stayed on at Arsenal for 2 seasons. Crucial for the first where he played fullback and DM in the post-Fabregas era. Was out injured for the 2nd and started complaining about lack of playing time when he reuturned. Moved to Freiburg and was told to play on the wings. Was voted as one of the worst signings of Budesliga. Moved to Chaltorn on a loan. Was recalled and here we are now. I think the period in Freiburg and Chaltorn matured him significantly and made him… Read more »
A Big headed coq without the strength and size to play hard is a bad thing seriously
I hope he gets sold so the lame dick jokes will stop.
Arsenal fans never learn. They get over excited over someone and then he his the bee’s knees. It sets up for a reality check. Next thing you know, they will be berating Le Coq as rubbish much as they have done Santi Carzola before he found form again. Flamini is still more experience and has improved in passing numbers. There is no lack of physicality to his play and he has in recent games weighed in with both goal and assist. Coquelin is fast improving which is great news. But he isn’t there yet. his passing numbers need to improve… Read more »
Up the Coq, if you know what I mean
I’d love to go in the Coqpit and writhe around in DM heaven!
For me, i’ll say lets give our coq a chance,,…he seems to be growing into the role and getting better (‘harder’?) each game he plays. he is imo growing into a stiff coq!…..(why not join the fun eh?) his first litmus test will be against mancity this weekend if given the chance. if he does well…he silences his doubters, even if he dosent?…he learns from the experience, he is still young enough and even the best have a howler from time to time. This mythical DM that we want, that is 9ft tall, breaks up everything in front of him… Read more »
well i like the Coq just hope against city we dont get caught pants down, Coq out
I just hope he gets a run of games as it would harm everyone with Coq going in and out of the team all the time
