Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has dismissed talk of young Ipswich defender Tyrone Mings leaving the club in January.
The 21-year-old, who was recruited in 2012 by the Tractor Boys for £10,000 from non-league Chippenham Town, had been tipped for a January move to Arsenal after Arsene Wenger admitted he was keeping tabs on the versatile defender.
Having also seen Mings linked with Stoke City in recent weeks, McCarthy was less than amused in his latest press conference when questioned about the possibility of cashing in this month.
“Yeah, I’ve just been on the phone arranging to sell him! They [Stoke] haven’t got enough money. Well, they might have enough money but they wouldn’t be prepared to pay it.
“He’s not going anywhere. You might as well hear that from me. He’s not.
“He’s a really good player and he’s not going anywhere. He might as well hear that as well. That’s always the case, they think ‘is it going to happen, isn’t it going to happen?’
“Why would he not want to try and get promoted with us? We’re in a really good position.”
Arseblog News suspects that settles that…for the time being at least. If you want to learn more about Mings’ background, this is a great read.
Elsewhere Santi Cazorla says his upturn in form comes from playing in the centre of midfield. The Spanish international won both the Arsenal and PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for December after a series of swashbuckling performances.
“I feel good now and want to continue to play at this level for the rest of the season,” Cazorla told Arsenal Player.
“I always want to help the team with goals,” he continued, reflecting on the four times he netted in December. “I hope to score more until the end of the season. It’s very important for me and the team.
“I always try to make goals. It’s important for me because I am a midfielder and I always want to help the team score, and I will try to make more before the end of the season.
“I have more space [in the middle], more possibilities to score and assist, and I like this position very much. I always can help the team and I love when I play in the middle.”
Ming the Merciless in the Arsenal defence? Sounds good to me. Darth Vader as the much-needed DM would be ace, as well. “Joey Barton – you have *dsipleased* me…” *bartonchoke*
Only problem is that Vader would get accused of not putting enough effort into it:
“He’s shit. He doesn’t run around enough!”
“But he’s ensured 82 wins in a row by stopping players with his mind.. “
Heh yep, I can hear The Bloke Behind Me at the grove already… “USE THE FORCE YOU STUPID SITH BASTARD!! OH FUCKING HELL JUST CHOKE HIM AND GET ON WITH IT” etc etc
Hahaha, that’s exactly it!
82 82 undefeated….
‘I find your lack of brain disturbing’
I’d watch that.
Vader to Wenger, in dressing room: “You are unwise to lower your defenses!”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2L0zQAaZu8
He is big, black and has a shaved head… Must be the new Viera
Someone in there is a new inspiration for Diaby. He sure has something in common with Anakin and Darth Vader.
But I want him! Not fair!
Strange how before he came to Arsenal he had spent his career being used as a winger/wide midfielder
Which probably explains why he’s suddenly discovered that it’s nice to play in the middle.
Based on that last game, Alexis, Cazorla, Rosicky and Oxlade should be first choice midfield. Ozil is an incredible playmaker, but we seem to be so much better when we have 4 midfielders who are 1) willing to close down rapidly without possession, really run down the ball and keep trying to nick it back and 2) each have a really balanced, passing, shooting and dribbling game, constantly keeping the opposition guessing as to where the next threat is coming from.
Ozil needs to be willing to buy into the harrying and really, really should be better at shooting.
that’s a thought, but it begs the question: how would that midfield stack up against one comprising Jack, Rambo, Ozil and Theo? Not sure I’d like to bet on the outcome. I suppose it depends which side lucks out and gets inanimate carbon rod in defence. At the end of the day both of those midfield fours would be better than many, many others in the league, so that in itself is a bit bloody good.
I can’t really agree with that. It’s too easy to look to home games against Hull and Stoke and go “those guys are the best!” without considering that the same guys got absolutely stomped by Southampton. They didn’t even have Schneiderlin, as he was suspended, yet Wanyama basically tore our midfielders to shreds all on his own. I’m not saying the Coq/Cazorla/Rosicky thing isn’t good, or that they’re not in form – they most certainly are. I’m just saying it’s far from perfect, and I’m convinced Ozil in form would improve it. In fact, Ozil at his best is capable… Read more »
Well said mate
One concern with Ozil is that when teams set up to harass him like Chelsea earlier this year, it really hurts his game. Shouldnt we look to nullify that by say, starting with Cazorla in that position and then bringing Ozil on as a sub?
Or better yet get a Steel DM who can lay down the law and protect our small technical midfielders and give them the time and space they need to create their magic without constantly looking over their shoulder worrying about the next brutal tackle to possibly injure them. If we had someone like Vieira he would make sure any dangerous tackles would be paid back 10 fold. Sometimes having such a player is enough to ensure we get treated with more respect. Liie Roy Keane said in his autobiography, he genuinly was afraid of what Vieira would do to him.… Read more »
Spot on loke. I 100% believe that opposing teams are told to ‘mix it’ with Arsenal in a bid to knock us off our stride which more often than not is successful. If i was an opposing team manager that’s exactly what i would tell my team. We all know the answer so i won’t labor the point but fingers crossed we address this sooner rather than later.
i think wenger’s mistake against southampton was pairing coq and chambers in front of the defense. it was too conservative and the first time chambers played in that role. i’d like to see coq and ramsey together with ox, ozil, alexis and giroud up front. mix it up with theo and santi coming on for ox and giroud with alexis moving up to striker. we can rotate giroud and welbz depending on the opposition and if we want to destroy a defense with pace.
i definitely don’t want wenger trying to shoehorn jack into the starting 11.
I second your final point SDB, big time…..
I’d give Özil a chance. He looks like he’s put on a decent amount of muscle since he last played.
It seems Santi knows the game is up. He will have to be shunted out wide to accommodate the return of the midfield king. I love Santi, but Mesut is on a different level.
yeah, why would he not want to play for a club with bigger ambitions, mick?
Is that Serge Gnabry’s evil twin brother
maybe serge is the evil twin????
Has anyone seen Serge for a while?
I honestly have trouble differentiating you (the random person who posts on arseblog) from the actual mark hughes (an ‘orrible excuse of a man). so, go home mark hughes. no one likes you. 🙂
Oh I dunno. I really loved that “Bulldog licking piss off a thistle” impression he did when the second goal went in.
Neither of them has a pointy beard.
Which is how you can tell the difference
There is not even a ‘sky sports understands’, so we are still a long way from any signing!
Ok. So every body wants to play through the middle. Who will now play on the flanks?
Heh podolski was the only one I think.
He wanted to be center striker.
Apparently at Inter he wants to be #10…
We signing Neuer guys…perfect DM imo
One thing Arseblog failed to mentioned in the Arsecast, is that Cazorla and Ozil can actually both play in the middle. At this point, Ozil is more likely to replace Rosicky than Cazorla, as Cazorla has been playing in a much deeper role lately. He’s been surprisingly good at it too, so I don’t see any reason to change that, unless Ramsey comes back in. Then again, Ramsey needs to be near his best to be better than Cazorla is right now, so it’ll be interesting to see which one gets to play in the deeper role.
Alexis gives presents to his Chilean natives at Christmas, Tyrone Mings feeds the homeless. If we signed him I don’t think my emotions could hack all the generosity and heartwarming tales that come with them. What a lovely fellow.
Could they combine the two and be the most generous Arsenal pair ever?
The last thing we need is a generous defender, Alexis on the other hand… Oh yeah!
Reading the Telegraph article, sounds like the kinda guy Wenger like and attracts, while at the same time would be repelled by a self-centred ego-maniac (read Mourinio) but then money does silly things.
An up and coming defender, 6″5, let’s what Wenger does.
Guardian…. but I agree he seems to be the ‘type’ that A.W likes, both his mentality and his physicality….. plus the potential of his development challenge….. as you say, we will see….. Sounds good to me, but not exactly what we NEED right NOW.
….because he plays at left back, can he play CB?
His dad is an agent for Chelsea. If we’re after him, they are too.
He’s a scout, not an agent.
That’s what they want you to believe! Everyone knows that Chelsea doesn’t have ‘scouts’: their agents abduct other club’s scouts and torture transfer targets out of them.
I always thought they just waited to see who Arsenal we’re going to buy and then offer double the transfer fee and triple the wages.
From that Guardian article he seems like he would be a great addition to the dressing room mentality at the very least.
Reading that article makes me hope we sign him 100 times more now. He seems like a great guy.
Thanks mate, your post made me read the article and I didn’t regret it; he really sounds like a great guy and I hope we sign him. We really, really need CB reinforcements and let’s hope AW does what is logical this time.
He’s not really played at CB and although he’s obviously tall enough and young enough to adapt to that role, he’s more one for the future than immediate cover. Kind of like a left-sided Chambers.
Cazorla sending a message to Arsene and Arsenal fans. Özil going on the wings again unless Cazorla plays box to box.
seems like a swell fellow this mings.
Please save him from stoke
We love Santi no?
Santi is best on the right and ozil is best as a CAM in behind the striker so that’s welbeck or giroud. We actually have loads of options in attacking positions. All we need is a 3rd centre half. People may argue that wenger should have kept vermarlen ( still can’t spell his name soz) but he has been injured since the World Cup in June so he still isn’t back and that’s 7 months ago so he still hasn’t played for barca and we got 15 mil for him too.
I think Wenger should play Cazorla and Ozil in such a way that they interchange positions throughout the game.
And Mings seems like a guy that would fit in well at Arsenal. His attitude is strong.
Mings smings. We need to be buying proven quality and not another young defender.
Or we could buy a defender that everyone in the game agrees is going to be big now rather than spend £30million + later on.
Ozil needs a ball winner playing behind him for two reasons: the first is to offer a physical presence for protection and the second is that Ozil’s quickness is in his mind rather than his feet. Therefore he can make the transition from offense to defense quicker than anyone on the pitch. When said DM wins the ball then gets it to Ozil he has the ability to play the quick pass behind the defense that Sanchez, Walcott, or Welbeck can run onto. That quick explosive potential to attack will also slow down teams running at us because our ability… Read more »
carzola and Ozil in midfield?…….. Mmmmm…….Yummy!!!
Heldt confirmed Arsenal did not offer enough for Draxler last month and reports persist that Bayern Munich have asked to be kept informed should anyone make an offer for him in the summer.
Confirmed?
Forget about Julian Draxler for now. We got plenty of players that can play in that position. Although I’d say that Cazorla and Rosicky are on the wrong side of 30. Julian Draxler would cost arsenal £37m (why would Schalke settle for less..?) Besides I think the clause is just active during the summer windows, it would be pure idiocy if it was active during the january window as well. Julian Draxler is such a great talent and a top lad by the look of things, but for £37m? That is crazy to spend on him at this very stage,… Read more »
Are we signing anyone? half of the transfer window is already over…
