Danny Welbeck says he’s hoping to add the FA Cup to his medal collection this season, as Arsenal continue their defence of the trophy against Middlesbrough on Sunday.
The striker has Premier League and League Cup winners medals from his time at Man United, but with the Gunners hoping to win back to back FA Cups for the first time since 2002/3 🙂 1930s when they achieved a hat-trick of triumphs, the England international is determined to play his part .
“It’s a special trophy to win and I’ve not had the joy of winning it,” he told Arsenal Player.
“It’s something that I really want to do. It’s great to have that on your CV and you just want to keep on winning because once you get into the habit, it’s good to keep going.
“It’s always meant a lot. Growing up as a kid we always knew the FA Cup was such a historic competition and it’s up to us to keep that going. I’m sure it will and it will live on forever.”
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has hinted that new boy Gabriel will make his debut for the club against Boro, saying he was ‘very close’.
He also talked up the qualities of the former Villarreal man, saying, “He’s a player who has the ability and likes to defend – it’s more and more difficult to find people like that.
“He’s a player who has good qualities – he has good pace, he’s good in the air and is good in one against ones.
“It’s better I don’t talk too much, let him play and he can show how good he is.”
If we win this year, we become the most successful FA Cup team, and Wenger will become the most successful FA Cup manager. Let’s do it!

Oh dear Arseblog! You do write great articles but trophy stats aren’t your thing! We won League ‘back-to-back’ in 30’s not FA Cup but we definitely have won back-to-back FA Cups this Millennium! I was there for the Double-winning victory over the pre-financially-doped Chavs in ’02 & the trophy retention over So’ton in ’03! Have you could you forget?!! 😉
